The Yee’s Have It – Symphony of Lights from the Hotel Room After dinner, I returned here for more much needed bed rest. ![]() I looked out across the harbour. Somewhere out there, the family was having dinner. ![]() I noticed a group of people practising Tai Chi in the forecourt below my window. DH would have been interested to join them. ![]() It was at this point that I realised it was 8 pm and the Symphony of Lights were starting so I thought I’d watch it again from the bedroom window. What I hadn’t realised was that the building next to the hotel, the Hong Kong Coliseum, was part of the display as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It had taken 8 nights for me to catch this! ![]() I guess I could have turned on the radio to broadcast the music that went with the show. But the lights of the Coliseum were pretty enough that I didn’t need music to enjoy my second (or yee) time of watching the Symphony of Lights! I guess that the building on this side of the harbour would be why the tourist boats come this far in. I had wondered why they didn't just anchor close to where the Star Ferry Terminal was; but given how colourful the Coliseum had been, it would be worth cruising all the way out here too. After this, I headed to bed and fell asleep. I didn’t hear the boys come in so I figure it must have been much needed sleep. Tomorrow was our last day in Hong Kong! ![]()

Well at least you finally discovered the pretty lights! Too bad it took until the last night and you having to stay home sick for that. You still got more and better photos than I would have!

Sorry about the uncomfortable bed. The hotel looks nice though, especially the view. I love the lights but am sorry you had to be sick to see the ones next door.

![]() I thought I was the only one not to see blue sky in Hong Kong. Are you saying that you didn't see any either? WOW! Wonder if the grey cloud is a permanent feature? Quote:
By the sounds of it, I may have missed out on my cousin and her family but the food wasn't that memorable that night. I still managed to get sleep in that bed. Thanks.

Our lazy last day, Eating in Hong Kong
Day 11 in Hong Kong and today was our departure day. We had a 7 or 8 pm flight out of Hong Kong, which meant that we had nearly a full day left. Thankfully, our hotel deal included a check-out time of 4 pm; which turned out to be perfect for us. My parents and our TA friend did call to see what we wanted to do but it turns out DH and DS also just wanted to veg out around the hotel. We made plans to meet downstairs in the hotel lobby at 3.30 pm and they went their own way. DS wanted to go for a swim so that left me doing most of the packing in the morning. I was still pretty sick but between the cough medicine and Sudafed, I was managing. Sick or not, we still needed to eat. I was keen to try somewhere else; but DS was really keen on the fish ball noodles at Praise Noodle House. ![]() My order was rice with two types of the BBQ pork. It was pretty good. ![]() The bonus was the herbal soup that came with my meal; just what the doctor ordered! ![]() DH decided on the noodles with vegetables and oyster sauce. ![]() His meal came with broth. Moine! Moine! Moine! ![]() One of the things that the others did after dinner last night was have dessert, Asian style. DH was keen for me to sample some as well…and given that iSquare had one of these, we just walked our way on over. ![]() Take a look at the samples from the window. ![]() I’m starting to see a couple of these type of dessert houses open up in Melbourne city. I have yet to go in to try any of them; but I have no doubt that I’ll be making my way into one of them in the next couple of months or so. Asian desserts are usually a sweet soup, served warm. They are not to DS’ taste; he opted to wait for us to finish….only after he negotiated his fee of an ice cream after we had finished our dessert. I chose to have the red bean soup with tau foo fah. ![]() DH opted for the black rice soup, with sesame seed balls. ![]() ![]() Even for my Asian tastebuds, DH’s dessert was ‘odd’. But he loved it. My dessert was wonderful. With the lunch we had, we rolled back to the hotel…yet again. What’s that? No, I haven’t forgotten that we had promised DS some ice cream. Whilst in Honeymoon Desserts, I reminded DS about a particular shop we keep walking past in the Metropolis Mall. I found this picture in my Day 11 set. You can see our hotel and the mall right next to it. And to complete the picture, I turned to the Hung Hom train station that had been so conveniently located a short walk away from the hotel. ![]() I know Tutti Frutti can be found pretty much everywhere in the US and they are even available in Australia. ![]() But we did stop in here earlier in the week….. ![]() ….and we found that there were flavours like mango, guava and tangerine. DS loved the ‘exotic’ flavours and was keen to head back. ![]() ![]() Our final moments in Hung Hom! ![]() (Continued in Next Post)

When at Hong Kong airport, what else but food? After lunch, we headed back to the room for a little rest before getting ready to go to the airport. Having the late check-out meant that we could all shower and change into our travel clothes and feel a little bit fresher for the trip home. We met my parents downstairs at the allocated time. Our TA friend had booked herself a return ticket on the airport shuttle when she had arrived. It meant that we would be able to squeeze all 5 of us into the one taxi. The cost of the taxi from Hung Hom to the Airport was about HK$250 or about $30 in our money. It is a 30 minute trip. Our bags? I was dubious at the start but they did make it to the airport in the one bungy-rope-tied boot. ![]() Check-in was a breeze this time. We had no issues; and based on the recommendation of our extremely gracious check-in person, we cleared customs and headed into the proper terminal section. Shopping and food options are better in the proper terminal than in the check-in section! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The rest of my family ate more food! ![]() ![]() ![]() I settled on shopping at the Disney Store and these items. ![]() The shops at the airport are nice and expensive but they do help pass the time. Our plane that was to take us safely home was waiting for us at the gate. More blue sky! ![]() As I gazed up towards Tung Chung and Ngong Ping, I reflected on how blue sky was just a state of mind. ![]() Despite the grey mist and clouds that had marked this trip, and aside from being sick, this trip to Hong Kong had been full of interesting days and little gems of experiences. I might have started planning this trip because of an impulse and because I needed a little Disney fix; however, it had been a cracker of a holiday. I hope you enjoyed coming on this journey with me! Thanks for reading and there probably will be one more post with my final thoughts. ![]()

Your DS has great taste! There's nothing like a good fishball noodle soup. Its one of my favourites. Mmmmm...I also like the food offerings at HK airport. That Disney store doesn't go astray either!
Once again, thanks for sharing. You have a wonderful way of drawing us into your journey and making us feel like we're there. It's been a pleasure reading along albeit in spurts for me! Looking forward to your next one!

Great TR!!!!! It was fun to read along and I love your writing style, and your pictures are phenomenal! Your meals looked incredible, but I see why you said when you got back that you would appreciate eating some Western Style meals. I would have been craving a cheeseburger!
![]() I can't wait for you to start planning your next holiday!

Your lunch looked fantastic. I have never been to a Tutti Frutti, but I have been to many like it, Golden Spoon, Pinkberry, Yougurt Land, etc. Excellent dessert selection. Glad you got to relax a bit on your final day. Thanks for sharing the trip with us. I am excited to do some of the same things one day.
