OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

SO grateful to this board and especially lurkyloo for all the wonderful advice and help!

We had two cakes delivered on our Illuminations Cruise, both as a surprise. The first was a mini cake for our DD's birthday and the second a celebratory cake for DH's graduation.

When I first called YC for the cakes, I was able to give the info for the mini cake and left it really open - I picked colors and flavors, but told them to just do what worked best. I'm super happy with the results:

DD loved it and it wouldn't been large enough for 3 or 4 easily.


Our second cake was more 'fun'. DH is a pilot and his FAVORITE cartoon as a kid was TaleSpin. When I spoke to the first CM at YC, they took some basic info but told me I would receive a call back to go more in depth. That same night, they called me back and the CM I spoke with was thrilled to do a TaleSpin cake (it had been a fave cartoon of hers as well). I explained that I wanted Baloo as the main focus of the cake and that my MIL had two small figurines that we wanted to add to the cake. From there, they came up with this:

It was AMAZING! The characters were all on white chocolate and the cake tasted DELICIOUS! The cake was marble and the frosting a buttercream and the white chocolate shavings really added to the flavor! Best of all, DH was stunned into silence and I could tell he was amazed at the nostalgic theme.

Just a heads up for those thinking of delivering to outdoor areas during the summer -- humidity made everything start to sweat fast! Luckily, our boat driver was on top of it and was able to keep things cool and box the leftovers back up before they wilted much.

We had 9 on the cruise and more than half the cake left - I believe the larger cake was a 10" but honestly don't remember... it's a lot of cake and even the day after tasted wonderful! I was thrilled with the results and both cakes and delivery to the boat was about $125.

We have a reservation for dinner at Tutto Italia on July 13th for my DD's 12th birthday. I was hoping to celebrate this occasion by ordering her a mini cake (We did this two years ago at the Yachtsman Steakhouse and she loved it). I contacted the Yacht & Beach Club bakery twice, speaking to a different person each time. I was given the same answer by both. The bakery only delivers to three restaurants in EPCOT: Coral Reef, Garden Grill and Le Cellier and the order must be for at least a 10-inch custom cake. So my options are to order a cake from Tutto Italia directly or change the reservation to a restaurant that is serviced by one of the deluxe resort bakeries. I would prefer not to change the reservation as my DD enjoys dining at Tutto Italia.

This all leads to my question for the DISboads - Can someone provide me with any info and/or photos of the tiramisu, chocolate mousse or strawberry shortcake cakes from Tutto Italia? I couldn't find any while searching the threads. Thank you in advance.

I emailed Brian a picture I drew and he made the cake from that. It was perfect and the cake was moist and tasty!


The whole evening was perfect we arrived at 7:45 for our 7:50 ADR and were seated immediately. Our waited did not rush us and the cake was delivered after Wishes along with complimentary champagne. We were there for 3 hours and the whole experience was wonderful and relaxing. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

I LOVE your cake! Would you mind if I used your picture as inspiration for my parents surprise cake?

The mini fridge in the studio or the full-sized fridge in the 1- and 2-bedroom units? I barely fit a 6-inch cake in the mini fridge of our BCV studio, so a 10-inch Minnie/Mickey Head cake is not going to fit. Bell Services can hold it for you in their fridge, though.

Are you staying at a Disney resort? You could have the cake delivered there. Or you can have it made by BoardWalk Bakery and pick it up on your way into/out of Epcot.

I have never seen the cakes provided by Tutto Italia, I'm afraid.

No. We are staying off property using Hilton HHonors points this trip.

I am considering this. My only concern is how well will the cake hold up in transport. Living in SWFL I know what the summer weather can do to people, let alone a cake.

Going in a different direction, I wonder if having a special dessert for her birthday would be a unique way to celebrate. Maybe we could do something like going to Beaches and Cream and ordering the Kitchen Sink. Anyone have any suggestions? (Sorry if this gets away from cakes as this is the OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread.)

I am celebrating my birthday at WDW. I want to order a cake for my husband and my self. I have it all sketched and was wondering how early I should contact the cake artist to start working out the details. I want to eat at Be Our Guest resturant (fingures crossed it is opened 11-10-2012) before heading out to run the Wine and Dine Half Marathon.

I am starting law school in August and am worried I may be too busy to get all the details put together.

Any advice???

OMG that was a fantastic idea. When my wedding ring was stolen my husband wanted to arrange for CRT's proposal package to give me my new one. He was too late there was someone already proposing durring our dining time, and since they only allow one proposal per sitting he was out of luck. I have a few questions

1.Does anybody know if its possible to have a cake done in the theme of Lego starwars?
My Dh is crazy on Lego Starwars its our Wedding Annivarsary at the time of our next trip and when we married at Disney the cake was AMAZING but we was staying at Pop and they didnt have fridges at that time so the cake got wasted!!

2.I want to surprise Dh and the family with a cake its kind of hard to know what to do as we have our oldest sons Bday the actual day we arrive we cant ask him what cake he wants as its a SURPRISE TRIP plus our twins have never had a bday at Disney and the oldest has had 3!!"due to the time of year we go" ....................so
I was thinking of having 2 cakes done one birthday celebration for all three of the boys for the day we arrive (just have to figure out if we will arrive in time for us to go to a restaurant) or just have his cake delivered

3.Dh and mines anniversary cake I have booked at Cali grill and think this will be the perfect place for the cake I wanted to make sure the cake had bits of him and me in it, I love bright girlie colours with sparkle and flowers and he loves like i said Starwars great combo huh

Or do i just have a cake made to celebrate how much i love my family, Im about to go through a huge major surgery on my head after being very sick for around 2 years! This will be my 3rd major Op on my head since 2006 because the Tumour keeps coming back as does the severe infection that is eating at my mastoid and so my family have had alot to deal with Dh has to work all day being in the RAF and then look after the boys if im too ill and my mum who is coming on holiday to travels over 5 hours to stay with us on and off every month then goes home for a month then back again!!
So i want to say thanks to them all .....To celebrate each individual celebration Is so hard as I cant afford to do like 4 big fancy cakes! should i just pic a theme that I know we will all love like Halloween? Im so darn stuck its driving me crazy!

Any help appreciated!

Anyone else?!?! I just called BC/YC about the Jedi Mickey and the CM told me that they're not offering it anymore.

I am sort of at a loss now. Guess I have to turn to the gallery for inspiration...unless someone has been told that they're still offering Jedi Mickey and the CM I talked to was mistaken

I think the Kitchen Sink idea is great! Or what about one of the Disney Food Blog's Cupcake Crawls through Epcot after dinner?

You can work with Disney to dreate a cake themed to just about anything you can imagine (as long as it's not Pooh & Friends...).

I got the feeling that the Jedi Mickey alterations to the standard Mickey figurine were the personal passion project of one cast member. So it could be that s/he left the job and now they can't offer it anymore.

Also Blizzard beach has a nice ice cream treat in a sand bucket. I think we might have a nice cake done at home and then ice cream at blizzard beach.

Just returned back from a wonderful vacation which was made even more wonderful by Chef Brian as he did a fantastic job on a cake my sister ordered for her son, my nephew.

The cake was pirate themed, with pictures from the first couple days of our vacation on the cake.

10 inch cake
Marbled cake
Butter cream icing
Cookies and Cream filling

I couldn't tell you what the chocolate tasted like, I was ugly crying too much to even taste it. It was for the anniversary of the day we met .

That is the "sweetest" idea, I need to come up with something like that for my DH. Our anniversary is in Oct. and he's not big into cakes. I just love that.

The Boulingerie Patisserie has some amazing desserts and sweet treats. We have been known to get a box with 3 or 4 and share them back in our room.
