I just got a water belt yesterday. I have been fine during C25K runs until now but now that I am going further I think it will be useful. Plus it has a pocket for my phone and ID. I'm about to go for a run now and I'll take it with me.

As for the run otherwise it was awesome. I did C25K W8D1, 28 min running plus warm up and cool down. I did 4 min run/1 min walk with a 3 minute run at the end to even it out for 28 minutes. C25K app said I did 3.04 miles and Run Keeper said I did 2.85 in the same time. Regardless of the discrepancy I went pretty far and I should have no problems at the 5K on Saturday. My goal was less than 45 minutes and I know I will do that no problem! |

Fortunately so far there was not too much heat here, today was the first day in the 80s. I am actually very good about hydration anyway, most days I drink at least 2.5 litres (it seems to be 85 oz which seems an awful high number to me?). And I try to avoid running in the heat.
If the weather is really hot I will run at 6 am (which I hate) or late in the evening (but that makes it difficult to fall asleep). So, I generally don't drink anything during a run that is not longer than 1 hour. I am investigating the issue of a handheld bottle, really not sure whether I would like a belt. What I have done in the past is to put a water bottle into my letter box and then run two rounds from my apartment so that I can come and pick it up when I am halfway through my run, drink it and then continue. But what I always do after every run: I get my huge 0.5 litre glass (so that should be 17 oz.?) and fill it with water and add half a fizzy mineral tablet. If for whatever reason I forget about it, I do feel the lack of water and electrolytes the next day. The question about the training plan: I am more or less following one of the Galloway training plans from the Disney running site. But I don't do the walk/run method. I just really enjoy running it all. I have never been good at sports as a kid and I just love the fact that I can run now without collapsing after 30 seconds. So I truly enjoy it. I don't mind being slower that way, it's not about being fast, it is about being a runner (and even if I am slow, I never see myself as only a "jogger"!). ![]() The one thing about my training plan at the moment is though that I am mainly following it in order to try to figure out whether I am really able to go the distance. If everything works like it should (Just got through week 3) I should be ready for a race on September 29, but I am actually planning on running a 10k on October 3 and my first half-marathon in April 2013. I guess the half-marathon training can't be bad for the 10k either. But I will have to figure out how to train and keep motivated during the winter then with early nightfall and snow and ice. I can't imagine doing 10 mile runs on the treadmill!! |

I don't have a water/fuel plan yet but I'm working on it. ****************************** Went to the DR today. I have bronchitis and a sinus infection. We also talked briefly about the marathon. He suggested the 1/2 over the whole because he's worried about injury. He'd hate to see me hurt and then get turned off to running. I'm going to talk to DH tonight and see what he thinks. I figure either way I'll start my training as soon as I feel better. And we'll go from there.

![]() I have been trying to just drink as much water as possible! I also run either early in the morning or later, right as the sun goes down so I miss out on most of the heat. This is my first big race in September, so I don't really have a plan for hydration quite yet

Hi to all,
For hydration I always carry my Nathan Hand held- I tend to get dry mouth more so than actually thirsty so having a small sip whenver I need it seems to help- for longer runs I use a Hammer Gel every 3-4 miles I really like their Esspresso flavor-the boast of caffine sure helped at 5am for the Princess. I also eat either a bannana or a luna bar about a30/35 min before my long runs. Saturday was my first long run in 3 weeks- did 6 miles so was pretty pleased, met with a trainer at the YMCA afterwards , he showed me a few more stretches I could do that would help my IT Band issue-and It really felt great afterwards hoping to get a 4 mile run in tonight.

It's my longest run so far, and I think its more mentally intimidating than anything. The ToT race is 10 miles and knowing that's half the distance is big! I'm assuming you stop and eat your Luna bar, right? Please forgive the silly question, but I am totally new to running. And yes, my first race as any kind of runner is a 10miler...go big or go home ![]() Well- today was my first day back running after a week off. Not a planned week off, I was just lazy. So I went to the treadmill and did my 35 minutes and was happily surprised to see that in the same amount of time as week before last, I was able to tack on another quarter of a mile! I don't know if that's because I'm well-rested from a week off, or I'm just getting that good...but I am certainly feeling better from my runs. I am a little concerned about my pacing- I'm at about 15min/mile. It worries me a teensy bit, but I'm also well aware of the fact that I have another three months to work on this, and I can only get better. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I have just become so irritated over this stupid leg injury - tired of the pain, tired of not being able to get in training runs or even get in good work outs.
Sorry for whining but sheesh, it's been 2 months already! I've been getting massage therapy, not stretching cold and have been using the foam roller before and after every work out. It is slowly getting better.Anyway - enough of the pity party! Im leaving tomorrow to go visit my Dsis and we're doing a 5K in the neighborhood where we grew up. I don't think I'll run the whole thing but we'll have fun. ![]() Welcome, Lori!

I'm not sure when I'll have time to run five whole miles though- Friday and Saturday is Relay For Life for me, and Saturday is WW Weigh-In...so somewhere in there, I'll be doing all that and taking a nap! Have fun on your 5k!!! |

I ran my 5K this morning! The weather was great here, in the 70s at start time. The race was on one of the greenways we have here in San Antonio. I have been running on one of these trails near my house so this was nice plus there were less hills at the course we used today. I only took three walk breaks which surprised me. I guess it was all the adrenalin and excitement but we had run past the first mile before I took a break. I did not get a chance to see my official time but the timer was close to 39:40 when I crossed. There were less than 400 people and I could not have been more than 20 seconds back at the start. I am very proud of myself for making my under 40 minute goal. At the very end I saw the timer at the finish line and all I saw was the 39:XX and I just sprinted. I don't think my DH realized I would do that!
After the race they gave out some door prizes and Christopher won a $25 iTunes card and a $50 Fleet Feet Sports card. He was completely unimpressed with either and gave both to me. I did talk him into going and at least looking at new shoes for him though. He complains he gets blisters but then says his shoes are fine. With any luck we can find a pair that are not too much more than $50 so he wont have a good excuse not to get them. So all in all a great morning and we are both looking forward to our next race. Right now I am signed up for the WWP 8K in September but I would love to find something else before then. |

Hi from vacation! We picked the girls up at their camp yesterday and surprised them with our leaving a week early so we could do a Disney cruise! I had slept until 12:30pm, and then I drove us here all night. We're at the Swan tonight, leave on the cruise tomorrow, and then we'll be at AKL for a week after the cruise. *whew* I'm starting to relax! But today - and here's why I'm checking in - I ran on vacation! I'd been up almost 28 hours when I decided (foolishly?) I was going to get a C25K in. I'm in week 7, so it's 5m walk, 25m jog, 5m walk. I went from the Swan down the path to DHS, back again, and then 2 laps of the boardwalk. 3.3 miles at a 10:30 pace! It was brutal - so muggy, but at least it was overcast. I definitely earned my Flying Fish dinner tonight.
![]() We cruise tomorrow! XO Liz |

Congratulations on your 5k Amanda!
![]() Liz--glad you could get a run in. That truly is one of my favorite runs ever. Have a super vacation! Sorry to be so short on replies. I think I still have someone to add to the first page. Been a little hectic here this week, but hoping to have a little more time next week. Hope everyone is staying cool.
