That platypus is LOOKING at me! A Memorial Day 2012 Trip Report TR FINISHED 7/23!!!

Hello all! DH and I recently returned from our Memorial Day weekend getaway, and now it's time to start the trip report. If you're interested, my quickie PTR can be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2923121

As for an introduction? Well, I'm Jackie and I'm a January 6, 2012 Disney Bride--- but, more importantly, I am a Disbride. (Woohoo!) I'm 24 and I'm an English teacher.

DH is Chris. He just turned 25 the day before we left, and he's a graphic designer. In other words, we're ROLLING in the money.

Yes, he really is 25. Yes, he knows he looks like he's about 16.

This trip was different for us in a number of ways: for one, it's the shortest trip we've ever taken. For another, we tried a few things we've never done before (Drinking around the world! Jiko! Staying at the MK until 3am! Meeting up with some fellow DISers! Kidani Village!). It was a short, exhausting, but much needed trip.

Day 1, Part 1: The Case of the Mysterious Phone Call

We woke up bright and early at 3:30am and were on the road about 45 minutes later. Our flight was leaving at 5:55am, and luckily we're only about 10 miles from the Milwaukee airport. We got through security easily, although I was sad to learn that there wasn't an Alterra after the Delta security checkpoint. (If any of you ever have a layover in Milwaukee, you NEED to try Alterra coffee. It's amazing.) So, instead, I got the breakfast of champions from one of the airport convenience stores.

Aw yeah. Cookie and a Diet Coke. (At least the cookie was vegan?)

Hubs and I were quite tired, but I was more tired-excited. He was just... tired.

Isn't he handsome?

Our flight left on time; we arrived in Memphis on time; and then we arrived in Orlando on time. I really don't have anything of note to say about our travels--- everything was easy peasy. I did read Kingdom Keepers IV on our way down, and it definitely helped me become excited about the trip.

We arrived in Florida, I grabbed an iced coffee from Starbucks so I could stay awake, and we headed towards the Magical Express.

We were sent to the bus fairly quickly, and we sat in a new-ish bus with bigger television screens! I always manage to pick the worst seat on the bus for watching the video, so I let Chris pick this time so he wouldn't be so whiny. We got a good spot

and we settled in.

Unfortunately, Kidani Village was the last stop on the DME and, honestly, the bus ride just seemed to take forever. I'm sure it's just because I was overly excited. We stopped at CBR first, then Pop, and we became overwhelmingly nostalgic at Pop. Chris and I have stayed there four times together, and we just started to miss it a little. We debated jumping off the bus then and there, but we figured we should go where we actually had a room reserved.

Everything went slightly downhill, however, once we checked into Kidani Village. Thanks to Deena, I remembered to ask for a room close to the lobby so we wouldn't have to deal with the neverending hallways. The check in girl seemed a bit flabbergasted by my request and said she would have to call (???) to ask if that would be okay. She also asked if we still wanted a Savannah view: Of course we still wanted a Savannah view! I wasn't going to spend the points on a SV and then look at the parking lot the entire weekend. She fiddled with her computer for 10 minutes or so, and told us the room we had been assigned was at the end of the building, but it was ready then. She said she could still call (who was she calling??) and ask about a closer room if we wanted--- which I said I did.

Then the girl working next to her overheard her about to make this mysterious phone call and told her not to call and just to look it up on her computer. The girl showed her how to look it up on the computer, and then a manager came over and also started looking. I have never had three people check me in before!! (And I truly don't think "close to the lobby" is an outrageous request; I would have been happy being in the first or second section of the building, and I was very polite.) Eventually, they found us a room but it wasn't ready yet, which I expected and had no problems with whatsoever. The manager told us she would call us in a half hour or so with our room assignment.

At least we managed to get Chris a birthday button during this 20 minute long check in extravaganza!

By this point my breakfast of champions had long worn off, and so we decided to hoof it to Jambo to get some Quick Service so we didn't enter Epcot all grumpy and hungry. The walk to Jambo was a bit longer than we anticipated! We finally found The Mara and I ordered your standard Disney chicken nuggets, and Chris got a burger. The flatbreads looked awesome, but we were finalllly headed to Via Napoli for dinner that night.

Satisfied and refueled, it was time for us to go to Epcot!

* lol, love the picture of Chris sleeping at the airport!
* How do you like Kingdom Keepers? We're going to start the first one in our DIS Book Club in a week or two and I can't wait to try it!
* Glad to see Chris is looking a bit more awake on the ME
* Sounds like you got a noob CM! Glad to hear they finally worked it out for you, but that's a little crazy. You'd think you're not the only one with a few requests like that!

You were a gorgeous Disney bride! I am thinking about renting DVC points for AKL in the future so I'm really interested to see what you thought of the resort.

So glad to hear that the flight was easy peasy lemon squeezy! What I like to hear!! You guys are total BEASTS for getting up so early.

Oohkay, the CM at Kidani sounds like a real gem. Definitely smart to ask for a room close to the lobby-- we always seem to have to walk 6mi to get anywhere in that hotel. Glad things seemed to work out!

YAY for EPCOT! Can't wait!

Yay! I can't wait to read more! I'm glad your flights were uneventful, but it stinks being the last stop on the ME and having a noob for check-in. The flatbreads at Mara are so yummy! We may have gotten them late at night on a few occasions during our honeymoon... so good!

-Yay, the TR has begun! (I remember reading your update last night, but can't seem to figure out why I didn't reply then )

-Ugh, we had a new person as well for our check-in and she took FOREVER. I understand being new and all, but you could always ask the person next to you, instead of being stubborn. (Thank goodness Doug isn't on here; he'd have a good laugh about stubbornness and me )

-A room near the lobby is SO not a difficult request. Hopefully you were happy with where you wound up. And took lots of pictures, too!

-Okay. I'm caught up. You can post more now!

Ha! Well, I'm going away next week for 6 weeks of intense training/orientation for my new job. So I wanted to start early so I could get some of this done!

I've actually been reading Kingdom Keepers for awhile, so I'm glad it's the next book in the club--- I'll actually read that one on time! I think I always get noob CMs; it's why I never call the dining number.

Oh, thank you so much! Rent points for Jambo, not Kidani! (At least that's my preference.)

We are reallll beasts for getting up that early. And I hadn't fallen asleep until midnight. I was a real gem that day, let me tell you...

Oh, I am stubborn too! I really think she didn't even think to ask for help; she seemed like she thought she was doing the right thing. Sigh.

I know: I am such a Princess! And The Mara did have a decent selection, but I guess nothing was calling out to me that day. Ho hum!

Day 1, Part 2: I guess we'll just sleep on the couches in the lobby.

So DH and I were off to Epcot.

Upon arrival, the wait for SSE was pretty short so we did that first, even though that goes against every fiber of my being. (I had to remind myself that we were not there for rope drop and so it made sense to do SSE.) I tried to take a picture of our little animated guys at the end of the ride, but it just didn't work out. Afterwards, we went into Chris's favorite store, The Art of Disney, so we could ogle at the works and hopefully find a new art book for Chris--- but, alas, he had them all! Then we had to run into Mouse Gears so I could stare at the Dooneys.

Then we headed into Club Cool so we could take our standard Beverly pictures.

Chris was really weird this time though. He HATES soda, but he drank two little cups of Beverly! "It just tastes so bad, I HAVE to have more." I am going to blame his irratic behavior on the tired-ness. Or something.

I am sorry for all of the huge pictures. I am entirely too lazy to resize. I washed my Beverly down with the Chinese watermelon soda. That stuff is like crack to me.

We headed over to The Seas, which has recently become one of my new obsessions. My favorite part is when the nerdy fish yells "NEMO IS SWIMMING OUT TO SEAAAA!!!" I like to say this often and then laugh at myself. I am pretty much the world's best person to live with. Uh huh.

The Land was next, but Soarin was a 90 minute wait, so we just went on Living with the Land. This is also one of my favorite rides.

It's my fruit! (Get it? Because my name is Jackie?)

I love the cute little alligators! Those huge catfish are MUCH scarier than these gators, IMO.

However, this ended up being a very sad day on Living with the Land because....

The Nine Pound Lemon was missing!!

Afterwards, we headed over to JIIwF (I love my abbrevs), mostly so I could sing "Imagination" and whine about the Dreamfinder. We did play around in the gift shop a bit though.

We decided to cross the park yet again and go on Ellen's Energy Adventure, as we had missed it on our honeymoon. The wait time boards were down throughout the park that day though...

We actually did see people getting very confused about the boards. A bunch of people thought the large one by the pin station was a touch screen, so they would touch it and then just wait. I shouldn't laugh, but...

We might have laid our heads down in Ellen's Energy Adventure. And Chris might have fallen asleep for a few minutes. He woke up when we were underneath the brontosaurus and just said "Woah! Dinosaurs!" in a sleepy-surprised voice. That's what you get for falling asleep during Ellen's dream, Chris.

We had pretty much done all of the little rides in Future World (I don't do Mission: Space. I don't think it's fun and it makes me a little queasy), so we decided to walk around World Showcase a bit before dinner. We grabbed some alcoholic beverages in China. I wanted to take a cute picture, but Chris was more interested in drinking--- it was very hot and he was very thirsty, and he hasn't yet learned that alcohol is not a good thirst quencher.

We walked around slowly and ended up checking in for dinner at Via Napoli rather early--- and we were seated pretty early too! We looked over the drink menu and wanted to order something new, and so we got the special strawberry-something-or-other. A woman at a few tables over from us had a strawberry thing, and it looked delicious.

However, she must have had the strawberry Italian soda. I can assure you that this little strawberry drink is one of the most disgusting things I have ever had. I would rather drink two liters of Beverly than ever have that thing again! UGH!

Perhaps even more unfortunately, our waiter was less than fabulous. He never came over to check on us, and so we were unable to order something a bit tastier (like, say, that strawberry soda!) to wash it down. Thankfully, Andrea the Water Guy kept noticing our water was low and refilled them.

Our pizzas arrived, however, and they were just as delicious as we remembered.

I am seriously in love with this pizza. Chris and I are really picky, but it's some of the best we've ever had. Even though our service wasn't great at Via Napoli this time around, I will forever return for the pizza. I think one of our problems might have been that we told our server we had Tables, so he knew he was guaranteed an 18% tip. He spent a long time talking to both of the tables next to us, but he didn't talk to us at all in between giving us our drinks and giving us the check.

Before we left, they DID come over and sing happy birthday to Chris... which he absolutely hated. Chris is shy and he doesn't like being the center of attention. He mostly wore the birthday button just to humor me. But, here's a good picture of Embarrassed Chris.

I didn't get a picture of it apparently, but they gave him a cookie with some whipped cream on top. It was tasty, but we were both just entirely too full for dessert.

We headed over to the Japan Pavilion to go to Chris's other favorite store. He didn't find anything he needed, but I did snap a picture of the World's Most Racist Tote Bag.

By then, it was just about time to head over to Downtown Disney to meet up with some of my DisBrides! I was also on the hunt for a new Disney Dooney Buttons bag and wanted to make a pit stop at Trend-D. Instead of walking to the front of the park, Chris and I exited through the International Gateway and took the quick walk over to the Beach Club. We stayed at the Beach Club for four nights during our twelve night Weddingmoon stay, and it quickly became our favorite hotel. Of course, one of my favorite things about it is it's so close to where we were married.

But I also just generally love this hotel. It reminds me of New England, my home, and it's also really important to me now because it's the first (and only) Disney hotel my dad ever stayed at. I love the relaxing sitting areas, and I can't wait to try out the pool one of these days. We're currently in the process of buying a resale Beach Club DVC contract, so keep your fingers crossed that everything works out!

We walked over to the bus stop, and as we were waiting I asked Chris if he had ever heard from the manager about our room number. He checked his phone and--- nope! Still nothing! (I don't bring my phone to WDW with me, so they only would have called him.) It was after 7 and we still didn't have a room number. While we didn't necessarily need it right then (though, it would have been helpful had we wanted to send a purchase to the resort's gift shop!), it would have been nice to know it all the same. Ho hum.

The DTD bus arrived, and our trip was relatively uneventful. We got off at the Marketplace stop, and Chris headed towards The Art of Disney, and I headed towards Trend-D. I wandered around for awhile and I found a Belle t-shirt I absolutely needed, and I made Chris help me choose a buttons bag. I wound up with this one.

I chose it because Belle is front and center. I was iffy on this bag when I first saw pictures, but now I am in love.

Then it was time to go meet up with Disbrides at Ghiradelli, and I was starting to get nervous. What if we didn't like eachother in person?! As I was describing to Chris was Jennifer and her husband, Charley, looked like--- Jennifer appeared out of nowhere like a cute little ninja! We squealed and hugged. Then Andrea and her husband Kory arrived, and then Danielle and her husband Chris. It was a little awkward for a few minutes, but then it felt surprisingly normal. We headed in to order sundaes (I got cookies and cream with dark chocolate fudge, in case you were wondering), and we sent the boys out for tables. I lost Chris for a little bit there, but then Charley found him.

On a side note, I just realized that no one took pictures of the sundaes. Nope. No one. They were GOOD though, I promise.

As we were sitting around talking, a high school music group got out on stage and... well, I suppose you can say they sang. That is all I am going to say about that.

We stayed and chatted with the Disbrides until 11:00 or so, but by then I just wanted (needed!) to go to bed. I had been awake for 20 hours and was operating on 3 hours of sleep, so I was not exactly my brightest. We did get the boys to take some group shots though, but I forgot to give Chris my camera.

This one is stolen from Danielle. (Sorry, Danielle!) Her husband took this one underneath his butt/leg.

And this one is stolen from Jennifer. Like I said, I was basically asleep.

We said our goodbyes, and Chris and I headed back to the AKL bus stop. Luckily, a bus was just arriving as we walked up, and we were able to get a seat without a wait. When we arrived at the hotel, I told the man at the check in desk that we still didn't have a room number, and he seemed very surprised and apologized. THANKFULLY, we were assigned a room extremely close to the lobby on the fourth floor. Surprisingly, our luggage was there too. At least our clothes knew our room number, even if we didn't! I made sure to take some pictures of the room before we dirtied it up.

We settled in and snuggled into bed. It had been a long, fun, and exhausting day. When I was a kid, my grandparents and I always drove from CT to FL, so flying into Florida still doesn't feel real to me. We had woken up in Wisconsin, but were falling asleep in Walt Disney World! We had to get our sleep, because we were headed to the MK the next morning.

at your Bev face!! LOL!!!

I love The Land ride-- it's oddly enough my favorite at EPCOT.

Jackfruiiiittt!

BAHAHA- I love that people were confused by the boards... we shouldn't laugh but...

I'm so with you on Mission: Space-- I've ridden it many times and always ask myself "WHY" after I do. It is so not fun and has not fun aftermath for my body.

It's 10am and your pizza porn is making me crave. YUM. I'll have to try this pizza the next time!

LOL at the tote bag! Whoops...

OMG. The Dooney is a beauty. I love it! I may need to get one in July...

OF COURSE the meet-up felt normal! I keep telling everyone-- we would all be friends in REAL LIFE. I love you all. The end.

So glad you ladies had a blast!

Geez, you must've been pooped after such a long day! Can't wait to read mooarrr!
