Holidays in the USA

If you could only spend one holiday in the USA which would it be and where would you spend it?

I am debating for next year if I want 4th of July, thanksgiving or Halloween

I would pick Halloween:
1. The fall colours of orange, purple and black are great.
2. You will always find a street party somewhere in the US.
3. This is something that isn't traditionally celebrated in Australia so it is nice to see the dress up.


I've been in the US for three 4th of July's. Twice in New York and once in California. If you plan to do the 4th of July, NYC fireworks are great.

I've been in the US twice for Thanksgiving; both times with family. Great sales on Black Friday; but we really enjoyed Thanksgiving because we were celebrating it with family. Others may feel differently but I think this is one US celebration where you need to be with family and friends.

Whilst I do like Halloween and have been in the US over Halloween more than once I don't find it to be as much of a festive holiday away from Disney. In Hawaii, it was fun, trick or treating around Ala Moana shopping centre that day, it was amazing sitting out on the rocking chairs of the Moana Surfrider, watching the adults, kids and the street party going on in the street, it was just that day. Bit of trick or treating in the Waikiki hotels, but the street was pretty wild as the adults do seem to heavily get into the holiday tool

Christmas would be my choice of preferred holiday to spend in the US. It's a holiday that even outside of Disney is absolutely gorgeous. Shopping centre decoration, restaurant decorations, hotel decorations, even the taxi's and buses playing Christmas carols in the month of December. It is just a magical festive time of year throughout the whole of the USA and one that I love!

So Christmas it would be for me.

I do enjoy their Christmas....they do it so much more "christmassy" than we do..seriously... Santa on a surf board in thongs..pleeeese, give me a break

and christmas should be cold ..not 40 degrees....

I cant wear my mickey knitted christmas jumper at the right time, I look a right prat wearing it in june

I would vote Christmas, too! You are right Aussietravellers, they just seem to know how to celebrate the season in the US. Apart from that Christmas is my favourite time of year no matter where I am! I would like to see a white Christmas sometime too.
Karen - don't forget all those Christmas in July parties that you can wear your Mickey jumper!! When I was in NYC (many years ago now) I bought a sweat shirt which I wore to death - but it was the Empire State Building looking green like a Christmas tree, with snow falling!! I really didn't care that I wore it in Sydney in winter when it wasn't Christmas!! I loved that sweat shirt!!
To answer Anne_Aus's question, though, I would pick July 4th holiday - I think the razzamatazz would be amazing!!

i was there just around thanksgiving last year, and we'll be there just after thanksgiving this year... but this time we get to do part of christmas as well... so i am torn between thanksgiving and christmas... both are really fun times so i would really have to say go with your gut on this one...

but i truly adored the fact that around christmas time in the states it's actually cold!!!

I'd love to do 4th of July. I love how patriotic Americans are and how they do the street parades etc.

We go all out in our house for Halloween, Valentines Day etc. I love doing the house up, baking etc.

I would also love to spend a Christmas in WDW and NYC. *one day*

Christmas is high up on my list one year, but I can't bring myself to not be with my adorable nephew at the moment he is at that age where christmas is so much fun with him.

I have friends I will spend either holiday I choose with, I just wish it was an easy decision but each holiday has its appeal.

We did a Christmas in America last year and it was magical. We were at DL in early Dec then in Montana for Christmas and New Year's. Having snow was so cool. Even standing outside around a fire on NYE waiting for midnight so we can set off the $100's of fireworks we had bought made even that more special. Loved it!

I'd like to do a Thanksgiving, too, in a cold climate. Any excuse for turkey I say.
