So what's everyone's take on this? Fact or fiction? It seems like Tikiman is highly respected on The DIS...I haven't been following him long enough to know if his precidtions & info are usually spot on or rumor!

I'm 100% sure that it's going to happen, since they have squeezed in DVC at every other deluxe on the property. And Disney is definitely going to do it since it seems like they are making more $ with DVC than anything else these days (just judging by the # of DVC rooms added vs. deluxe rooms in the last 10 years...) Personally, I'm not happy about it since I think that adding more people will make the Poly a much busier place and what I like about it is the low-rise, relaxed atmosphere, as well as the gardens and how everything is spread out a bit. But only time will tell..

Fact. It will happen eventually. But ... I can't imagine they would start another DVC project until GF DVC is done and being sold (2013).

A DVC at Poly would be very popular, if done right.

Hi, Can you imagine how busy the volcano pool will be! We stayed at the Poly in Oct. and really loved it. I think I would consider DVC there.

There is absolutely no way that Disney is not going to build DVC at the Poly - it is now the only monorail resort without and it is one of the most popular resorts on site. While it will inevitably make things more crowded (hopefully they will add another restaurant & pool to help alleviate that) I don't think if they put it over by the luau cove area it will affect the general feel of the resort - it seems like it would be tucked away in the corner by the GF, behind the marina & Figi, and not be intrusive to most of the current resort (especially since looking at those site balloons it would be a fairly low structure - maybe 4 stories?) I also agree that construction probably isn't imminent. I read somewhere that WDW likes to only have two projects on sale at once. An official announcement is likely quite a ways off too. I also read that in order to prevent companies from hyping their projects to prospective buyers (ie. promising future builds that never happen) that there are very strict regulations in FL regarding when a new build can be announced/promoted (probably after construction has already started).

This was tossed around earlier in this thread and everyone knows the main building is in need of replacement. DVC is coming and what I heard last year from a contractor on a bid for major renovation at the POLY to begin fall of 2013 fits what was discussed on tikiman's blog.

I believe Carl posted a picture of what the original GCH was to look like. As was stated, DVC with food and pool could act as the main check in until a rebuild for GCH was completed to keep the POLY open. Five year plan like tikiman talked.

As of now just rumors?

Looks to me Disney is putting all their money and efforts into DVC (and the Cruiseline). Likely this will be the most expensive DVC yet. I think they are gonna have to step up their game to keep Poly DVC guests happy. The "hit or miss" experiences common in regard to Poly service won't fly with DVC.

All the DVC properties have been built with at least a small pool to accommodate the extra room guests.

I really think building the "best kept secret" rooms at the poly would be terrible. I am not and have no plans on being a DVC member. (don't like buying something I have to pay for, for the rest of my life and never to own anything) but for some it is wonderful. I believe adding more rooms to an already crowded monorail system is not improving anything except Disneys bottom line. Just an opinion..

So September of 2013 may be our last stay at the Poly. As someone else stated the resort monorail is over crowded.

I do believe whatever they build will look nice, but to me it will take away from the nice layout they have now.

I guess I am one of the minority who feel Disney will not turn Poly into DVC. Look at all the revenue made from its loyal Poly guests over the years, even when the prices of rooms climb higher each year. I was so close to purchasing a DVC two months ago and then realized I rather pay OOP and stay at our favorite resort whenever I want without worrying about 7/11 month ressies, blackouts or annual dues. Don't get me wrong, we have many friends who have owned DVC's for years and they are happy. I just feel for now I will sit back and see what happens next. Plus, I still like daily housekeeping when on vaca. ( makes me feel special)!

As a DVC owner and a long time Polynesian guest, let me chime in here respectfully.

The problem with your theory bolded above is that DVC is a multiple, almost never ending source of revenue. The base contract for buying into dvc is 160 points which is the starting point and for the Poly is going to be at least 23 to 25K or higher. The Poly, like BLT at the CR will cost more points to stay there as well, so more people will buy higher contracts. Disney management has to be just drooling over the possibility of the rabid fan base lining up to buy into the Poly. Disney will make the Poly a mixture of both DVC and regular hotel guests. You can bet the farm that room rates for regular guests will be going higher as well.

They're going to redo a good section of the resort and probably a few of the longhouses will remain, but a majority of the resort is changing. I think the pool area will be redesigned and I wouldn't be surprised to see a heavy Aulani influence. I also would bet that Disney has a retro theme for the new tower or towers, so that way it keeps the classic theme of the Poly intact.

im a 12 year dvc member. ive been sad to see alot of things go over the last almost 40 years. dream flight, mission to mars, horizons, heck, the old epcot, wild toads ride, swan boats i could go on and on.
my home is old key west. we love the poly along with the contemp. but it just isnt the same for us as okw.
id like to see everything stay the same as it was in 1973. but as someone reminded me a few years ago while i was pouting about another one of my fav. rides going away because some newb needs a roller coaster.
walt said," thing will change time and time again."
i hope the poly. keeps its original charm.

You make such a good point. I feel as you about watching things you love change over the years. Guess we will all have to hope that the polyp keeps its homey feel even through change. Thanks for such a well thought out comment.
