Sigh.. I wanted to fly out of Newark.. so much easier. But I often find JFK is cheaper by like $100.

Day 3, Part 2 In Which There Is A Half Naked Drunk Old Man

I ventured out of Writer's Stop to do what I do best: wander around and take pictures!

As I was walking past here, I heard a woman say, "Why is that dinosaur in the middle of this park?" and the kid she was with (who I assume was her son) said very matter-of-factly, "Because this is Disney." LOL! Oh, I laughed so hard. I wish you could have heard the kid, his tone was so hilarious. Like duh, mom, this is Disney! So for the rest of the trip any time I questioned anything I realized the obvious answer to everything is simple: "Because this is Disney."

At this point, I got a huge craving to be at Downtown Disney. Does that ever happen to you? All of a sudden it just hits you: you want to be in a very specific part of Disney World and it reaches you down to your core so much that it almost hurts. You can see yourself in a certain spot and you hear the sounds and smell the smells and FEEL Disney. Your memory of it is so sharp and you feel so close to it and yet you're so far. You just want to GO so badly. Most of the time this happens I am about 1,800 miles away from Downtown Disney (or whatever part of WDW I am craving at that moment) and that is a huge bummer. I can't tell you how happy I was knowing that I could head right over!

I wanted to do something I'd never done before: take a boat to Downtown Disney. I knew I could get one from Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, so I decided to just wait near the busses for whichever one came first.

Where did I end up?

Old Key West! I was excited to explore before getting on the boat because I had never been to this resort before and I love visiting Disney resorts I've never seen!

So many people have told me this resort is stunningly beautiful and they were right. The moment I arrived it was just like sudden relaxation. I can't even tell you how peaceful, quiet, and lovely it is there. Such a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the parks. I love places like Pop Century that have that crazy Disney energy, but Old Key West was so delightfully mellow that it made me crave a more relaxing resort stay.

This is the central area where the lobby, food, and shopping is located. It's kinda like a mini version of Disney's Boardwalk. They call it the Hospitality House.

Took this while walking from the bus top to the Hospitality House on the bridge.

This was one of my favorite things-- Old Key West was the first DVC Resort, and pictures of some of the original families are on the wall here.

I love anything nautical, so this place really suits me. I would love to stay there!

The Christmas decorations around the resort were very subtle, with the exception of this tree. I love the vibrant colors and sea theme. Very Little Mermaid like! This was probably my favorite Christmas tree I saw in all of Disney...hmm... tied with the one at the front of Animal Kingdom!

I love the ornaments. That blowfish cracks me up. And the random eggplant? No idea what that's doing there, but hey, i'll go with it!

They give out balloon animals when you check in. I love the "Happy Holidays" spelled out in balloons! What a fun job.

After checking out the lobby I went down to the boat dock and waited for the next to arrive.

About 10 minutes passed and then I was on my way to Downtown Disney!

I know I've used the word relax about 10 times so far to describe my morning, but here we go again: what a relaxing trip! There's almost nothing to look at in between OKW and DTD, just trees and greenery, and it kind of feels like you're not in Disney for a minute. It was very interesting and different! We passed a bunch of boats and there was lots of waving from all parties involved.

And then the West Side started to become visible. For some reason, I wasn't expecting this view! I guess I didn't remember exactly where the boat docks were and had no idea which area of DTD we were going to end up at. It was truly a beautiful way to see the West Side.

We docked and I headed up the ramp to do more wandering!

I had two specific things in mind: try and find some cute tights to wear with my nice outfit I had prepared for our Tutto Italia lunch, and look for Tangled merchandise at World of Disney. There is a SEVERE lack of Tangled stuff for sale throughout the parks and I have no idea why! I'm totally in love with that movie and need loads of stuff to comfort my obsession! Sheesh.

The boat docks right near the area of West Side that houses places like Paradiso 37 and Raglan Road, two restaurants we had reservations for during our trip and ended up not going to! Why do I even bother to plan? LOL. We always end up doing whatever random thing we feel like at that moment! Anyway, I really like this section of Downtown Disney. I actually never been in that little nook before. When it comes to the West Side, I usually stick to the part that houses absolutely GIGANDO names in entertainment such as House of Blues, Planet Hollywood, Virgin Megastore (RIP), etc.

I went into a trendy store called Apricot Lane, which I figured was my best bet for the tights. It kept getting really chilly at night and I knew I'd be cold without them, so I was pretty bummed when the only tights I could find were weirdly striped. Knowing that I could return them if I changed my mind, I decided I would just rock the stripes. There was a lot of stuff I wanted to buy in here, though, if you're a female looking for cute clothes that don't have anything to do with Disney, I suggest it. The staff was also very nice and helpful, and the manager even apologized for not having the kind of tights I wanted. So even though I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, I still recommend this place.

Next, I strolled on over to the Marketplace. It was so nice to be back here! We spent a lot of time here on our previous two trips and I was so happy to see familiar sights such as Earl of Sandwich, Tren-D, Ghiradelli, and of course... Wolfgang Puck Express. Oh how my mouth waters simply at the thought. It was SO hard to not go in and scarf down one of their delicious pizzas, but I knew I had to save room for our lunch ADR.

The displays at the Lego store were the coolest I had ever seen!

One of my favorite scenes from Toy Story come to life in lego form! FALLING WITH STYLE!

Snow White kissing Dopey.. does it get any cuter? (With bonus DEER for Jess and Kristen :D)

I went to World of Disney and headed straight to the Princess room without wandering around. You see, World of Disney is a dangerous place. It will one day be the reason for me claiming bankruptcy and honestly, probably the reason for my death. It's the biggest Disney store in the world and I can't be trusted there. When I go in, it's as if I enter a black hole. I black out and wake up hours later with bruises and 17 cents to my name. I just wanted to get in, get my Tangled stuff, and get out!

To my great disappointment, World of Disney had the same old Tangled stuff that every other store had. I didn't really want any of it, but one of the play sets did catch my eye:

This play set features the Drunk Old Man, one of my all-time favorite characters. I just think it's hilarious that there is a Disney character that is THAT hammered. I mean, sure, Gaston drinks beer at the local tavern, but he's still coherent. This guy from Tangled has little to no idea what is going on. Reason #8943573498 why Tangled is a flawless movie.

This part always KILLS ME. When I first saw it I could not breathe from laughing so hard.

If you haven't seen Tangled yet, let me just fill you in: there is a half naked drunk old man in this movie. There is also Eugene Fitzherbert , who is so amazing that he actually took Aladdin's place as my all-time FAVORITE Disney Prince. Annnnd just a million other things that make this movie the BEST. I could go on and on. Yeah. WATCH IT.

Anyway, I love this movie so much that I almost plopped down the $22 to buy the set, but I decided against it because spending $22 on toys when you are an adult.... look, it's clear I need therapy, let's just be real here. I actually did buy a Toy Story Hawaiian play set for myself for Christmas because I'm normal, and that's what normal people do, however it's just been sitting in my room in the box. I mean, I'm not going to PLAY with them but I just love seeing Woody wearing a lei and Buzz in a hula skirt, okay? Hula Timon loves it too!

Let's move on. At this point, I realized I should probably be getting back to Pop in time to change before our lunch ADR at Epcot, so I headed over to the bus stop to catch a ride back to Pop.

Up next: Italians ...and disappointments.

Hey Lia! I just caught up on all your updates, and I decided to comment! But since I missed the last like 163784739, I'll just comment on the most recent one:

YES. I totally get what you mean. Right now, I am literally in tears because I want to be watching Wishes sooooo badly at this moment. But alas, I cannot.

I've never been in Apricot Lane, but I really wanna check it out now! Thanks for the tip.

Ahh thanks for the deer pic! And the shoutout!

Ahh WPE...so tempting!

Tangled is such a beautiful movie! Aladdin and Eugene are tied in my book. <33

Can't wait to hear about the Italians.

I love that you take pictures of not-so-ordinary places in DHS. They're not your stereotypical photos that you always see. Very nice job.

"Because this is Disney." There's literally no better answer for anything.

YES! But most of the time it's when I'm at home. You were lucky and it hit you when you were actually there... so you could actually go there when you physically needed to fulfill your deprivation.

Old Key West is absolutely my childhood. That's the place I stayed when I was beginning to finally comprehend Disney and begin my obsession. (I was in 2nd grade. Ahh... good times) I think I have ended up staying at Old Key West... 4 or 5 times? It's my parents' FAVORITE. Especially my Dad's. He's a big relaxation guy. (although, he did LOVE Bay Lake Tower... )

I LOVE THAT FAMILY ALBUM WALL. I have been intrigued by it my entire life. It's SUCH an adorable idea. Oh my God. The pictures are just so funny... it's amazing how Disney times have changed so fast.

Aww I didn't get to see that Christmas Tree at OKW but I'm glad you took pictures! It's SO pretty! The color scheme is like perfect.

Random Egg Plant. Why? BECAUSE THIS IS DISNEY!

Ahh that boat dock. That reminds me of that time I met that ADORABLE CM and talked to him forever and fell in love. Being a Disney Cast Member is like the key to my heart.

You know what's super weird? I NEVER go to the West Side of Downtown Disney. I think I have only gone there on one trip. We went a couple times to do Disney Quest and Cirque du Soliel... but it was all in the same trip. And that was a LONG time ago. I was in middle school. That area feels the least Disney like to me, I guess.

LEGO. DEER. OMG.

I'm literally cracking up at the thought of that drunk old guy right now.

And I'm seriously considering buying a Tangled play set for myself. But realistically, I want all of the play sets from every single Disney movie. Let's be real.

The drunk old guy is definitely one of the best parts of Tangled! "Woah, someone get me a glass, because I just found me a tall drink.........of water..."

OKW is one of my favorite resorts for just chilling out. So relaxing and calming of an environment.

The west side of Downtown Disney...we took a boat ride from POR on our first night, so I have pictures just like yours of Downtown Disney! When my kids saw the Flights of Fantasy balloon they called it the Mary Poppins ride, LOL! (we didn't actually go on it)

Here's a little teaser for you...my SQUIRREL story for my TR takes place at Downtown Disney.

Okay catch up time!

Aww, I love being called princess too. It's not just the little girls who love it! Doesn't it just make you feel so innocent and carefree. That's why I love my Disney World.

Hahaha, I LOVE Friends! Forgot about that episode. That's hilarious. Love the story about you and your friend prepping to get first row. Wow! You were one of the firsts to get to TSM. Go you! I've never been that close to the front. Sure, I've gotten there at rope drop but not that close. Awesome. Watching Friends does pay off.

I'll have to stop in the Writer's Shop. I actually haven't been in there for years. I know it's a sin. I'll go back in May!

It's fun taking the boat to DTD. I like it better than the bus there. BUT, what I like even more is walking there from SSR. I love that! I haven't gone to Apricot Lane yet. I'll go there in May too. I have lots of to dos for May after reading Dis trip reports!

Ugh! Just looking at the pictures make me want to be there now. Thanks for your humorous report. Can't wait for the next update!

Hey there! I'm new to these boards (I've been a member of another board for a while but I have slowly found out that this board has exponentially better trip reports)! I just have to say first that your trip report make me LOL and not just lol, I mean LOL. Although the circumstances were sad (RIP Hula Timon) when you put Hula Timon 2011-2011 I thought that was THE funniest thing ever!! And the Joey, omgomgomg, AND I think the old drunk guy is hilarious too, when he gives the kiss at the end its slightly uncomfortable yet hilarious! Imagine a meet and greet with him haha! Looking forward to the rest of your trip report!!

I always love looking at the pictures you take because you always notice the little details and actually remember to photograph them! I applaud you.

"BECAUSE THIS IS DISNEY." Okay yall, we have a genius on our hands. He doesn't even realize how smart he is, that little guy. It's so true though!

I know what you mean! I teared up looking at pictures of Epcot the other day because I just FELT like I was there and I realized that I wasn't, and then I was sad. Sometimes it doesn't even feel real being at Disney and having this amazing place at your fingertips, like you have to remind yourself that you CAN do what you want! It's amazing!

I feel you on the lack of Tangled merch. What the mess is that? I just NEED them to make a Eugene "they just can't get my nose right!" shirt. NEED.

I love your Hollywood Studios pictures, they're so beautiful! And the little boy! "Because this is Disney!" Sniff I feel like I'm constantly saying that to Brandon on our trips!

Ohhhh yes, I am familiar with this feeling! It happens to me all the time, reading TR's and seeing certain pictures of a place and all the sudden BAM! I need to be there, I can feel it physically in my body how much I want to be in Disney! It also happens in Disney, I try to come up with a plan for what we will do each day, but sometimes you wake up on what is supposed to be an Epcot day and you think "Wow, I HAVE to be in the Magic Kingdom today." It's crazy. I'm just glad there is a whole message board community full of Disney freaks who feel the same way!

OKW looks so pretty! If I'm ever brave enough to rent points, I might rent at OKW because you don't need 10 million points to stay there, and I'd love to stay in a one bedroom villa just to have a jacuzzi tub!

I LOVE Tangled so much! When I first saw it I thought, wow, this is my new favorite Disney movie. Everything about it is perfect! I love Eugene, he and Prince Naveen are my favorite Disney princes! And the drunk half naked guy! And the mime! And Maximus! They're all so fantastic!
