Where are you from question?

When at Disneyworld or Disneyland, and someone asks where you are from do you just say Canada, or do you say your city (and possibly province)?

Honestly I never really know what to say. Sometimes I say Canada, other times I might say my city. We're heading to Aulani soon, so it'll will probably come up again.

Love to know what others say when asked. Just an unoffical poll.

We always tell people "we're from Ontario, Canada....from a small city about 2 hours east of Toronto". We find most Americans have a rough idea of where Toronto is located (and many have been there) so this gives them the best point of reference.

We gave up on telling people we are from Nova Scotia for that very reason. We just say East Coast of Canada now.

I always just say Canada. My Mom is American and I have enough US relatives to know that most Americans will just leave it at that. Once in a while you get the odd American that realizes we have provinces and different parts of Canada and they may ask what city etc but it's pretty rare.

We say Nova Scotia, Canada. When they say, "WHERE!?!?!" We explain that we are that little bit of land jutting out into the Atlantic. That often helps.
The following question is typically, "So, it is really cold there, right?!?!" AT which point we explain that we get NYC / Boston's weather about a day later.

I guess that is the advantage of living in Toronto. You say Toronto and they get it.

Growing up in Northern Ontario however I get where people are coming from on this. You might as well say 'Mars', and even then there times when you would still get blank looks.

I say Winnipeg. This is often (not always!) followed by a blank stare at which point I say "...just north of North Dakota", a further blank stare "... about 8 hours from Minneapolis", which often gets us there.

We have run into a number of florida native cast members who not only knew where Winnipeg was, but had even been here (either friends or family from around Winnipeg).

What is more fun is when someone says, "Oh, you are from Canada! Do you know my friend X from Toronto?". So far, I have never known their friends . I guess a 24 hour drive is a little too much separation.

As a native Londoner, I learned that even in Canada if you say you're from London, people assume you mean London, England. It seems that the city's name has actually morphed into "Londonontario". At least that's what most people say when asked where they're from.
