starting new Christmas traditions this year - The DIS Discussion Forums

DH and I will be doing a very different Christmas celebration this year. Our extended families have dispersed all over the country, and can't come for Christmas, so we'll be having a bunch of friends over for Christmas dinner this year.

Since we are starting new traditions, I was curious about what other people may be doing to start new Christmas traditions. I'm excited to spend the holiday with friends, but it will definitely be strange not to have extended family in attendance. Since most of our future Christmas celebrations will probably be like this, I'm hoping to start some new traditions this year.

Since things have drastically changed for us in the last couple of years, John and I are changing our Christmas traditions as well.

We've decorated the house...inside and out.
We've participated in the Christmas festivities in the weeks before Christmas.

But after that.....it's going to be very different.

Neither of us has purchased the other a single gift.

On Monday, we depart for Italy for 9 days.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be spent in Florence, Italy.

We're hoping that this will be different enough to keep us busy and keep our minds occupied.

We'll never forget past Christmas' or the people we shared them with, but it's time for some new traditions.

I've heard you talk about this on the Podcast, Kevin. We are actually considering traveling by ourselves next Christmas. I think doing something completely different may help ease the transition to these new times & traditions in our lives. But it's still odd and it doesn't quite feel like Christmas yet.
