Lunch at 50's PT Cafe
After running around DHS in the 90+ degree heat all morning I had worked up an appetite by the time my 1:30 ADR for 50's Prime Time Cafe rolled around.
I checked in to find a very busy restaurant. I could barely walk through the lobby to get to the check in desk, mostly due to this one guy who would not leave the poor hostess alone! He practically shoved me out the way to speak to the CM. Here's how the conversation went: Rude Guy: When will we be seated? We've been waiting 40 minutes! CM: It will still be quite a while sir. Walk-up waits are around two hours at this point. We will seat you as soon as we can. Rude Guy: Well it's been a long time, why do all these other parties get seated before us? CM: They have made advanced reservations so we have to seat them prior to any walk-ups. You are welcome to stay and wait for a table, but it will be at least another hour. Then rude guy huffed and puffed off to continue waiting! So....make your ADR's people! I cannot believe someone would be willing to waste two hours (or more) out of their park time because they didn't make an ADR. And it's not the CM's fault they can't seat you for a long time! After witnessing that exchange I finally was able to check in. I could see the rude guy just seething with anger when the CM told me I would be seated in a just a few minutes. ![]() I sat down in the Tune In Lounge and my rear had barely touched the chair when a seater called my name. The seater told me he'd be back by with more cousins to check in. I was seated at a two top table with a nice view of one of the TV's: ![]() I loved the old TV clips, especially the original Mickey Mouse club bits! I had to stop myself from singing along with the theme song. ![]() My server came along shortly and introduced herself as cousin Emily. She was definitely in character, but didn't do any of the silly antics saw from other servers. I had known what I wanted to try at 50's PT Cafe for a while and nothing on the menu had changed since I last looked, so I went Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken, served with Mashed Potatoes, Chicken Gravy, and Southern Greens, although I subbed Green Beans instead. This is a pretty large portion - a leg, wing, thigh, and breast! It was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The breading was crispy and well seasoned, not overly salty or greasy. The meat on the breast was a little dry, but the other pieces were perfect. The mashed potatoes weren't anything special, but they paired well with the chicken and I liked them enough to eat most of it. The green beans were cooked so that they still had a crunch, and were flavored nicely with some garlic. I just wish they weren't quite so oily, but overall, I'm glad I picked them over the greens. While I was eating my food, the seater came by with a party in tow and said "Everyone say hi to cousin Abby!" ![]() I knew I had to try one of their milkshakes, so I opted for a Chocolate Malt: ![]() Wow! This was seriously the best milkshake I've ever had! It had the perfect consistency - not too runny or too thick. I could suck it through the straw without trouble and the flavor had the perfect mix of chocolate to malt. Usually when I order a malt, they put in too much malt syrup and it tastes bad. But 50's PT Cafe uses Malt powder (you can see it stick on the sides of the cup) and I think that gives a better, more true malt flavor. Next time I'm in DHS, even if I don't eat at 50's PT, I will definitely be stopping in the Tune In Lounge for another shake! I did get to watch some funny antics going on. SPOILER ALERT - don't read the next paragraph if you want to keep the antics a surprise! There was a large party seated near me with an older woman as their server. The server kept telling the mother of the party to keep her elbows off the table. After the third time, "Auntie" came back and said "Well missy if you can't keep your elbows off the table Mom said we will just have to do something about it!" So she then put down two napkins on the table in front of the mother and squirted some ketchup in a little pile on of them. ![]() I would definitely go back to 50's PT Cafe. It was a really fun, entertaining atmosphere. Some of the food could use a little improvement, but overall it's good and definitely worth a visit! Grade: B+

Hi Abby,
I am FINALLY back and catching up! Very happy to hear that you loved VN! We have been twice when it first opened and loved it, but never went back due to some bad reviews - glad to know I can put it back on my radar. Then, I am not a huge fan of the bounty platter, even though I just LOVE Mickey Waffles - what do they put in that stuff? They taste like instant love! ![]() And every time I read a review of 50s I am tempted to book it for us, but anything that has some kind of antics in it is NOT up my street. I keep very strict rules (on table manners) in my classes and see a lot of mistakes being made, so I do not want those pointed out any more! ![]() Thanks for the reviews - can't wait for more!

That fried chicken looked soooo good...even at 7am
We love 50s, although we are not going to go on our next trip. Thanks for the updates. We are only about 47 days out, and starting to get really excited.

It is 100 degrees out and so humid and that yummy malt pic just cooled me off! YUM!!!
We had the best chocolate shake there this winter - the food was good - but the shake - awesome!! Sad - no DHS on this upcoming quick trip - I guess I'll have to get that milkshake fix elsewhere! Thanks for the awesome review!

That would be wonderful for all of us. Enjoying the food (and adult beverage), without being "bothered"! ![]() Just on a side note ...... we were talking to some friends last weekend and we mentioned you and Johnny and remembered the server at the ESPN Club, who took several photos of his shirt, while trying to take one of us! Needless to say I could NOT stop laughing for a long time.

I am not a fan of fried chicken, but PT 50's is one that I think is amazing. The only problem is they give you way to much
Great review!

My DH LOVES fried chicken but I've been keeping quiet about it because I knew he wouldn't like the "stuff" that accompanies the meal. But he caught a glimpse of it passing by at the bar and now we must find a way to get the man his chicken!
