The pool at the Boardwalk actually has a sign that says; Reserved for guests of the Boardwalk Resort and DVC Members. Our May trip was so hot my DD8 and I went out and spent two days checking out the resort pools.

The idea being, the guest would be eligible for some of the member perks, the paid renter would not. Nowadays, you need to show your member card to get the perks, so only the member gets them. IMO, that means renters and guests can't pool-hop. Only members can. |

yeah, what i was trying to say was that since members never informed MS whether they were compensated or not, the distinction most likely no longer exists. there used to be a distinction and you can still see it in some of the documents (online and otherwise), but at this point there is probably no distinction between a guest and a renter.

All the documentation says that a member gets when they purchase (the Public Offering Statement) is the guests (non-compensated stay) may be entitled to some DVC perks. It doesn't say which perks (because perks are not itemized in this document - they change all the time). It does say, the guest may need the member blue card to obtain these perks.
So if you are a truly a guest of the member (no compensation paid to the member), you could try to get the perks, but they still may say no.

No pool hopping for him. Not that we would because our pool is so awesome anyway (SSR). But that also means that he can't get the DVC discount on dining or shopping without me.

Just making sure I understand this and do not break any rules. We are DVC members using our points to stay at BCV next week and had planned on using the pools at the Polynesian and Contemporary on nights that we have dinner reservations to fill the gap between dinner and watching the fireworks over at MK. I understand I cannot "pool hop" at BLT but is using the pools at the resorts allowed?

However a few months ago the Polynesian started giving wristbands to guests staying there so they can get rid of illegal pool hoppers and because their whole volcano pool area is not that big, so I am not sure how that effects DVC members who want to pool hopp over there. |

We are DVC. it really all depends on the crowd level at the pool. I pool hopped to the Grand Floridian one time. It was during Spring Break, when pool hopping was technically blacked out, however, it was a slightly cooler day, the pool was nearly empty and we were also guests of a family staying at GF. We had all had tea at the Garden View tea room and the girls wanted to swim together afterward. It was not a problem. Had it been crowded or at all busy, we would not even have asked since it was blacked out. But since basically my daughter and my friend's daughter and a maybe 3 other children were in the pool, they didn't care. More people were just sitting on the beach area not getting in the water because it was cool.

Using Pools at Other Resorts
To 1 Minnie & 3 Mickeys: Here is some pool hopping info from the DVC site:
Pool Hopping Information When staying on your Membership at Disney's Vero Beach Resort or any DVC Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas. There are no exceptions to this policy. As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs. Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*: •February 20-26 (Sun – Sat) •April 16 – April 30 (Sat – Sat) •May 27 – 30 (Fri – Mon) •June 26 – July 5 (Sun – Tue) •September 2 – 5 (Fri – Mon) •November 21 – 27 (Mon – Sun) •Dec 11, 2011 – Jan 1, 2012 (Sun – Sun) *Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity |

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I honestly did not know pool hopping was allowed at the resort hotels. I thought it was only DVC resorts. We also have never done any pool hopping before so I just wanted to make sure I had all of the facts straight. Would have never known it was an option if I had not come along this thread.

On a trip earlier this year, my DD8 and I hopped to the GF with no issues. (We were staying at AKL on points so we were legal.) We wanted to swim between our dinner at 1900 Park Fare and the fireworks, just like you suggested. No issues whatsoever. The lifeguard said, "Welcome Home!" and invited us to enjoy. He also thanked us for checking in. Poly's volcano pool was closed so we missed out on that one but we had a great time checking out other pools.
Many of the pools get very empty as the evening gets later. At Boardwalk we were the only ones in the pool around 8 PM! That Roller Coaster slide is awesome!!!
