On the other hand, reading your report makes me especially sad that DCL is not going to Europe next year, so no transatlantic option for us for a while . . .
Thank you! For this cruise, I used a Nikon D3100.

Lovin' it! Keep your report coming! Aren't you glad you were sailing away from those bugs?
Was that cheese plate from room service, or the one you pay extra for? It looks yummy!
Also, wondering about all those fun gifts you got - DVC and Castaway etc. How do you "sign up" to get lots of gifts??

THANKS for doing this TR! We are sailing on the Magic in 2012 and reports like yours keep me going!

I can tell this is going to be an excellent report! Love your photos...especially the one of the Banana Carmel dessert. Yowzah! That looks and sounds scrumptious!

Looking forward to reading more about your two week adventure on my favorite ship!

Yes! We were so glad to get away from all those lovebugs! Gross!

The cheese plate was the one purchased as a gift for my parents. I should have a picture of the cheese plate from room service soon...we got that a few times.

For the DVC gifts, they know if you're a member or not, so you automatically get them. For Castaway gifts, it depends on your number of cruises. If this is your 2nd-5th cruise, you receive the bag w/ all the goodies. For your 6th-10th cruises, you receive the additional gift (this time it was the luggage strap, passport holder thing, and the notecards).

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 1)

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 1)

At about 6:30, the “natural” alarm clock went off. We heard the thrusters, which meant we must be ready to dock at Castaway Cay! We continued to sleep a little bit more before waking up again at about 7:45 thanks to a loud, screeching child in the room behind us. So, we decided to actually get up this time and start getting ready for our fun-filled day at Castaway Cay!

At 8:30, we were on our way to Topsider for breakfast with Mom and Dad.

At about 9:00, after we had enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast, we were getting off the ship! We took pictures with Daisy at the Post Office, and then continued along the path.

We walked all the way to the second tram stop (stopping for pictures with Minnie and then Pluto around Mount Rustmore), and then boarded a tram heading to Serenity Bay. By 9:30 we had arrived at our spot for the day on the beach at Serenity Bay!

We set up camp, put on lots of sunscreen, and began to relax! James and I brought our Kindles along, so we did some reading. By 10:45, we were drinking our first Konk Kooler! (For the price of $5.75...it used to be $5.50...)

After enjoying the glorious drink, we went into the water! It was cold at first, but it didn’t take long to get used to it. James and I made it ALL the way out to the sandbar before turning around and heading back.

At roughly 12:30, we decided it was time for lunch! So, we proceeded to the BBQ area to find a rather lengthy line. We grabbed some food and I decided to take a picture of the ship in the distance:

When it was time for dessert, James and I were REALLY hoping we would see the return of the cookie dough soft serve! Unfortunately, we were saddened to see that was not an option. However, we experienced a new choice: strawberry and banana!

By the time we were done eating, it was 1:00, and we returned to the beach for another hour or so.

At about 2:20, we decided it was time for us to head back to the ship.

We took the tram from Serenity Bay to the next stop, got off, and took some pictures before getting on the next tram all the way back to the ship.

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 2)

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 2)

The whole journey from Serenity Bay to the ship only took us about 15 minutes! We got back on the ship, dropped off our things, and James and I did some exploring. Our first stop? The “secret” deck 7 aft verandah.

After that, we went down to Guest Services to get a new map and Navigator for Mom (as she was going to scrapbook this cruise). And, of course, I took more pictures of the area (including the dinner menu for tonight)!

Soon enough we found ourselves traveling through Beat Street.

At 3:30, we decided to head up to the top deck to watch the Sail Away Party (24 hours late, haha)! The party started at about 4:05, and we noticed we were sailing away from port at about 4:12. The characters hadn’t arrived to the party yet, either (they joined the party at about 4:25).

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 3)

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 3)

When the party ended, James and I went back to the room and played Phase 10 with Mom (while eating some of the cake from their room). At 5:30, we decided to order some room service! Within 10 minutes, our food had arrived (chicken wings, cheese plate, and fruit). About an hour later, we started to get ready for dinner (we skipped the show this evening: “Comedy and Hypnosis of Ricky Kalmon”). Also, as soon as we started getting ready, our shirts arrived all nicely pressed!

Once we were all ready, we decided to head downstairs. We browsed through the shops again, and I snapped some more pictures. (Notice A LOT of Med merchandise.)

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 4)

DAY 2 - May 15th, 2011 - Castaway Cay (Part 4)

We sat outside the Walt Disney Theatre for a few minutes before heading over to Parrot Cay for our “Taste of the Caribbean” dinner. The doors promptly opened at 8:30, and off to our table we went!

We made our food selections, and shortly thereafter, food started to arrive! Our dining team definitely understood us and they seemed to just “know” that we didn’t like long, drawn out meals. Often times, we were on our entree while people were still on their first course! I know some people like a long, leisurely meal, but not us. Never once did it feel rushed, though. On average, we were out between 9:45 and 10:00 which was perfect. Anyway, time for some food pictures!

Pulled jerk tart:

Conch fritters:

Veal entree:

Snapper entree:

Seafood fettuccine entree:

Chicken sausages entree:

The meal wasn’t too bad! I didn’t post pictures of the soups, but we also had the chilled pineapple soup and the spiced seafood soup.

Next, it was DESSERT time!

Trio:

Chocolate cake:

Upside down pudding:

At roughly 9:45, we were walking out of the restaurant.

But, as we were preparing to leave, there was some confusion with the time change issue. We informed her that we had to move clocks forward tonight one hour but she said that we didn’t have to. We walked out, and she came running after us (she found us in the aft elevator lobby), and told us she spoke to two different head servers that said there was to be NO time change tonight. So, I ran up to our stateroom to show her our evidence.

(See the card?) I ran back downstairs to show her and she was shocked! More miscommunication on this cruise! And she also felt bad, because she told the first seating there was no time change when, clearly, there was!

After getting all that sorted out, we went up to our rooms. We discussed our plans for the morning and initially decided on 9:00 to have breakfast. Mom and Dad were planning on going to the DVC Member Celebration, but then Mom noticed the scrapbooking event around the same time, so they decided to skip the DVC event. James and I also realized that meeting for breakfast at 9:00 would be a bit too early, considering the time change and the fact that we were about to leave to see a movie in the Buena Vista Theatre! So, we decided on 10:45 instead.

At 10:10, James and I went to the Buena Vista Theatre to see “I Am Number Four.” There were quite a few projection issues before the movie finally started. We heard the announcement for the emergency exit three times. There was no audio for the “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” preview. The screen said that 3D glasses would be needed (but it wasn’t true, unfortunately some people believed that and got up and got glasses). By the time the movie started, all the issues were sorted out. I regret to say that I feel asleep near the end of the movie (right at the climax with all the action...I don’t know how I slept through it!). But, I did enjoy what I saw prior! As we were leaving, I literally walked out of my flip flop and didn’t realize it. My foot had fallen asleep and I couldn’t feel a thing. James just stopped and said, “Uh, Kevin...want to get your shoe?” It was quite humorous (and it was a weird sensation, haha).

By 12:20, we were back in our room (well, I guess it was actually 1:20 at this point), so naturally we wanted to go right to bed. I was unsure if the wake up call would be at the correct, one-hour forward time, so we set the alarm on the portable clock we brought instead to be safe. And so we drifted off into a wonderful sleep, dreaming of our upcoming six days in a row at sea!

Ok, it would have been so difficult for me to leave behind the menu with Carmen Miranda Minnie on it! Love it! Your day at Castaway Cay sounds heavenly. How was the pineapple soup? When I saw that, I was definitely intrigued.

Very interested in hearing how the next few days go for you...all those at sea days!

I hope you don't mind if I ask you some camera questions . . . Are you using a flash for the indoor shots? Also, is there one lens that you used primarily, or did you switch lenses a lot? (I have not really mastered my DSLR but would like to get better by our cruise.)

And thanks for day two. Since it will be a long time before Disney offers another transatlantic, I am resigned to enjoying the trip through your report.

Regarding using flash, I spent most of the cruise being lazy and leaving it on the "auto" setting, so if it went off, it went off, haha. However, when I was taking pictures of the dinner menus, I turned off the flash since the menu was behind glass.

Regarding lenses, I spent the majority of the cruise using the one that came with the camera when I bought it (the 18-55mm one). For when I wanted extra zoom, I switched to the additional one I bought (55-200mm). I used the 55-200mm lens for the Sail Away Party and the pictures of Castaway Cay from the "secret" deck 7 aft balcony. I also used it for some of the shows in the theatre and also some of the ports (I used it a lot in Gibraltar...both from the ship and also from the top of the Rock looking down on the ship). Hope this helps!

Keep the questions/comments coming! I feel like I might be missing things, so ask away if you have any questions or anything to comment on!

I am so glad you are writing a report for this cruise....I am going on the 15 night Hawaiian next year and am axious to read what people do on all those sea days! I don't think we will have a problem filling them, but it is going to be hard not knowing what days are what and having it all mapped out months beforehand like on the shorter cruises. Thanks again! p.s. I cant believe that the beach on cc looks almost empty in your pics from on top of the ship! I would have stayed every second that I could.....looks like the ship wasnt sold out, that must have been nice as well .....
