DVC Value

If you ever get fed-up of the cheap rooms and free dining and anything else you may have felt eroded the value of your dvc purchase - take heart, I read a travel report on AKV the other day where the person had paid $1100 per night for a two bedroom villa. Suddenly the value of my purchase came flooding back to me, there is no way we could afford two weeks at this cash rate, but thanks to my points its been a reality for us, going back to a one bed this year for two weeks, cant wait!

Thatsthe beauty of owning DVC, being able to stay at resorts we could only dream of. I believe that I have managed to save money even taking into account my annual dues verses the rack rates I would have to had paid since i became a DVC member.

It's never been a way to save money, for me, but as you say it allows me to take trips I just never would have otherwise.

I think it "saves" money but it depends on what you consider to be money saved.

My husband and I both have an account where we get a certain amount of money each paycheck that we can spend on whatever we want and don't need to consult the other. We have different approaches to this.

I wait until there is something I want, decide to buy it, then try to find the best deal. If I get it for less then I expected I just have more left over and it will wait there until I want something else.

My husband will always spend the money he gets, he looks for deals not to have money left over but to get more stuff for the amount of money he has. If he has $100 he will spend all $100.

DVC is similar. Now if you only see what I do as saving money. DVC really doesn't save you money. However it does do what my husband likes, it gives you more stuff for the amount of money you spent.

Since we have a set vacation fund each year and would use it either way DVC is great as it gives me better rooms. I'm sure with staying at a value I could go cheaper though.

Think you may have mis understood what i was trying to say. If I add up what I would have paid rack rates to what I paid for my DVC membership then I have saved money as these resorts are a fortune to stay at especially as we tend to go for 14 nights due to travel costs. I think I got a bargin when I bought into DVC.

I agree
our last 5 years holidays have covered the cost we paid for our DVC membership
so from now on its free holidays for us

I just tell myself that our dues at part of our household yearly budget
