Best Good Neighbor Hotel for Large Family

We are planning a Disneyland visit for June 2011. We will be traveling with 6 people of various ages, sizes, and genders. Ideally, we would have a two bedroom suite that also has a pull out couch in the living room area. We are flying in to LAX and will rely on bus transportation to get to and from Disneyland (no rental car). We would like the option of a kitchen to prepare some meals at the hotel.

Does anyone have any advice as to which hotel is best suited to our needs? I have checked the Disney hotels, but they are too $$$ for our size group.

THANKS in advance.

Ones you could consider:

- Walking distance hotels: Desert Inn & Suites or Park Vue Inn

- Not in walking distance (ART service) but full suites: Residence Inn Anahiem Maingate or Residence Inn Anaheim Resort Garden Grove, Homewood Suites. These all have full kitchens in their room and include a full deluxe hot breakast.

Also, consider looking here:

for a map and links to large family hotels.

I would also add to the not able to walk from: Hilton Suites and Embassy Suites South. You would want to use ART for these which can be a PITA with strollers if you have them.

Check out getawaytoday.com, they have several suite options

When we travel with all the kids(6) we stay at RI Maingate. They have the full kitvhen, freegrocery shopping, managers evening specials, pool, laundry, etc. We stay in a penthouse suite. It is a little under 1/2 mile walk or they do have an ART stop outside.

We have done one of the Mini-suites at the Bestwestern Park Place and Inn with six people before (3 adults, 1 teenager and 2 children). We had no issues with room for everyone, we just had to plan out a schedule for taking showers/baths. Fortunately the vanity area was outside the bathroom or we would have had issues with the teenager

The pool area was nothing to brag about but the location couldn't be beat unless you were staying at the Grand Californian. The free breakfast came in handy as well. Nothing fancy (cereal, donuts, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juice, milk, etc) but it was nice being able to just grab and go.

Just wanted to add that the Residence Inns and Homewood Suites offer weeknight light dinners that are complementary along with the buffet breakfasts. Homewod and RI have free grocery shopping services too since you won't have a car. Just call a day or two prior to your arrival, give them your list and your items will be waiting in your room. A couple of nearby grocery stores also deliver for around $10 with a $50 or $100 minimum order.

We like RI on Harbor Blvd., they offer 2 bedroom suites and we like Homewood too which is our hotel of choice. The pool area is a little prettier vs. RI.

These all are not walking distance, but shuttle services are available via ART for around $4 for adults and a dollar or two for kids. One other adantage of Homewood in June is that they have their own shuttle, so you'd possibly avoid the ART crowds of Residence Inn during a peak season. Homewood's shuttle is a few dollars per person, round trip.
