Thanks for starting this thread. We have a Pug and Shih Tzu we may need to board on our next Disney trip. I loved your review and pics too
. The VIP suite looks great. Thanks for reviewing the good and bad, I appreciate knowing about the big dogs not being separated. That would scare my Daisy to death I'm sure. So sorry your dog got stressed so badly and you had to leave Poly early . Hopefully they get the kinks worked out soon. Thanks again.

I feel like if you are going to board your fur kids somewhere, the good and the bad need to be addressed. I would want to know everything before I take them anywhere, so thats why I started this thread. I like to inform folks of what to expect. I didnt know what to expect at this new kennel, so I dont want anyone feeling like I did, PARANOID AND STRESSED before I boarded my babies! If you have any questions if you need to board your pets, just ask away!

B,
Did they explain why they put on paper collars instead of leaving the regular collars on the dogs? My dogs have tags with all our emergency numbers on them just in case. I can't imagine leaving them somewhere.....especially out of state....without the tags.

I noticed you posted pictures of the dog and cat areas. Would they board a large macaw parrot? He's very tame and does well here at home with his canine brother and sister, buy would not do so well around strange dogs and he's never seen a cat in his life.

Mine have their names on their collars and all, so I dont know why they do that. Wierd. They didnt like those paper things. They were sticky at the ends and kept getting stuck on their fur. Aggravating. LOL

Aubriee, that is a good question. I don't see why not, they have another area for "pocket pets", but I dont know if they would take those! I would call and ask! Let us know what you find out!

I am really happy to see more about the boarding, I was really worried about the heat and/or shaded areas for outdoor time, mine love to play outside, but don't take to the sun well. LOVE the VIP suites! I have worked for vets before and I wanted to offer one explanation for the paper collars. Their everyday collars, can be hazardous. The paper collars are hopefully the ones that are like an entrance arm bands for people, actually really hard to just tear off. Dogs(every shape and size) can get their collars hung up on things and it can cause the dog to get stuck/hung up on something, even twisted in bedding, which can stress them out or even worse choke them! I have seen sibling dogs(again all shapes and sizes) chew through the other's collar, just being away from home and in a different setting and they just find a way to entertain themselves. In theory if one does it a paper collar, it should pass through them with little problem(gross I know, but I have one that shreds everything!)
Hopefully the dogs without bedding will get it at night? One of my dogs(older) shreds his beds to pieces and nests in it (not the sofa though lol!) if we have to board we just take smaller blankets for each day so he always has something. Thank you for posting this, I haven't decided if we should take ours yet! It does look like a very nice place! |

Every place we have ever boarded our dogs have always replaced the regular collar (they hang on to it) with a paper collar that often has some sort of coding written on it - one place even had a bar code on it. Some of the reasons provided to me were similar to the ones listed above regarding chewing, getting stuck on something, coming off (think those safety release collars). One place color coded the paper collars based on what play group to put the dogs into (my beagle played better with the bigger dogs rather than the small dogs) so it was easy to spot if someone wasn't where they were supposed to be.

They really do need some shade in the dog park. I dont know how they are going to do it, but it really is hot out there. And some pet parents were complaining because some of their dogs PAWS got really hot on the K9 grass and started yelping. So that needs to be taken care of. Quote:

Thanks for posting all of this! It's great info! We'll be making the long drive down in about 2 weeks and are thinking of boarding our small dog at Best Friends. You can't beat the proximity to our hotel and the parks. I think I'll feel safer having her close to us. I just don't know if I'm prepared to fork over the extra money for a VIP suite. We'll see!

Thank you for all the great info. I just made my reservations for our trip in Nov/Dec. We couldn't get a VIP the entire time but they will be in one for half of it anyway. We have a 27lb min pin/terrier mix and 35/40lb Shiba Inu and I feel they need the extra room. They have to share an indoor suite the first night they are there and a Villa the last 4 nights. The staff member I spoke with stated they would be fine in these together. I am still worrying from the pictures though. I would have made ressies earlier but we weren't originally going to have to board them. Our Min Pin is very fearful and I am also worried about him and other dogs but I will tell the staff members when we check in about it. It's good to know they can do other things with him instead if it's a problem. I will be sure to share our experience here!
