PTR Oct 2010 - An Aussie returns: Back home and TR started (11/02)

When I returned from WDW in May this year, I returned with very, very few regrets. Afterall, if the measure is based on comparing what I did and did not do in reality to what I wanted to and did not want to do in my PTR, I managed to:

• Ride all the attractions I wanted to get on at each park
• Eat all the things I wanted to eat
• Experience staying on-resort
• Watch Wishes and Illuminations from different locations (Dessert Party and Cruise respectively)
• Thoroughly have fun!

The regrets that I do have seem to be around what I did NOT buy at WDW. So, here are the items that I did NOT buy but wished I had and will plan on getting them in October, if this ends up being a "NOT NOT going PTR"....

1. A Dooney and Bourke Mickey Bag. I did NOT originally like the design that was there; but have subsequently seen the D&B bag with Mickey on it that I do want from the Basin.
   
2. A Walt Disney World cookbook. Preferably one that covers entrees and desserts from the WDW restaurants. I looked at a couple of cookbooks in May and can NOT for the life of me work out why I did NOT get one or twenty in the first instance. If anyone reading this and lurking would care to post your favourite cookbooks, please do so. I need to do the research on which cookbook to get before I get there in October.
   
3. Walt Disney World themepark music CD. I believe that there are websites that I can purchase the CDs from...but I'd like to have the shopping pleasure of picking up a CD from the themepark directly. If these CDs are NOT available at the parks, please let me know so that I do NOT waste any time or effort being disappointed and I will order them on-line (and get them delivered to the World).
   
4. I'm NOT sure if this is the correct term for it but it looks like a Mickey hand backscratcher. Firefly has reminded me either in this thread or in her PTR thread that I do NOT have an implement that I can use to prod DH to make up his mind about United or United. So I would like to correct this oversight. What better implement is there?

I'm pretty sure that the above list is NOT all-inclusive and that I will be adding additional items as we progress the countdown towards October. But it will do for a start!

And I will NOT be making the same mistake twice (in the same year)!

You know, I think I'm one of the very very few who does NOT like those Dooney and Bourke bags? I think they're ugly, but that's just me.

I am going to buy the CDs, though. I've been wanting them for a while

I saw one that was a navy blue background and had sillouettes of Mickey in black on it. It was actually quite "wearable". I'll have to see if I can find a picture of one and swipe it for you to see.

I do NOT want the one with the white background with the cartoon motifs on it.

Yeah, I've seen the cartoon one and the 'princess' one. Neither looked good to me. I'm also not willing to spend that kind of money on a purse, you know? My computer bag was $45 and the purse I normally carry was a handmade gift from a friend

You two are killing me with your talk of the D&B bags being ugly! I have the black one with the different color Mickey silhouettes on it and I have the 'ugly' white one. I really want the brown one too, it's much more subtle. Yes, I have an addiction to bags......


Onto something else - you can get CDs with park music in WDW. I bought the 4 parks 1 world one at MouseGears in Epcot

I kick myself all the time for not buying a cookbook as well, I look at them everytime I go but never seem to come home with one!

Well, that's why there are so many purses made I'm just not into "loud" patterns or designs. I like simple patterns. The two purses I use most often are a hand-knitted white one that a friend gave me and a black one with a couple rows of silver grommets on the sides for detailing. As I said above, the price is the other (and main) factor. I can't fathom spending that much money on a purse, but that's just me. My most expensive purse that was just a purse and not a computer bag was about $30. I know plenty of people who do it regularly. I just can't. Not knocking your choice of purses or anything, it's just not my kind of purse

These are two of THE desserts of the world. You may not like real Tiramisu because it includes alcohol, but not sure that Disney Tiramisu is made in the proper fashion. I went through a Tiramisu phase at the request of my Father around 13 years ago when I first met Fran. As you assemble the Tiramisu, you dip the lady fingers in a mixture of espresso and brandy, plus you add a bit of brandy to the mascarpone cheese that is layered between the lady finger. It seems that in my first attempts at Tiramisu, I was a bit heavy handed with the brandy and Fran got rather sick after dessert. Not sure why, the whole dish had less than a shot of brandy!

We have just about every Disney Cookbook, we buy any one that we see, especially if we think we don't have it. Honestly the only that I have cooked anything from is the cookbook I bought last Fall, the F&W Festival cookbook, which is available only during the F&W Festival.

I've said time and again that I'm trying to get past being a picky eater, so, yeah, I haven't had tiramisu or creme brulee I tend to like simple foods most of the time, but I'm willing to try other things.

Maybe even though it really wasn't much alcohol, the combination was what made her sick? I love garlic, but I put too much in some cheddar-garlic biscuits one day and it gave me a severe stomachache. It was just too much garlic.

They are both simple foods.. Tiramisu, lady fingers, mascarpone cheese coffee, chocolate, and some seasonings like brandy....creme brulee creme, sugar seasonings....fire.....

What is not to like?

I never thought I would find myself in a situation where I would think that any D&B bag was 'ugly'...so it was totally inconceivable that I found myself thinking that about the white Disney bag.

It was the one thing that I was so going to get in May...I'd seen pictures and followed a number of threads talking about how quickly they sold out.

I don't know what it was...when I got there and had a bag in hand (and credit card in the other), I just couldn't see myself using it back home. But I love the black and silouette and will need to track down the brown version that you've mentioned . This is definitely something that I will NOT be coming home without!

And thanks for the tip about Mousegears and the CD. I'll be stopping there as well.

There's a place for busy patterns and with the right mindset and accessories, it's a 'look' that I'm happy to wear. I'm into shoes and bags....as long as they are practical as well.

Thanks for the tip about a F&W festival cookbook. I think I'm going to have to think about getting at least 2 cookbooks!

With TiraMisu, it's not the combination....perhaps the quantity eaten might have something to do with it. That's usually my problem!

Sorry for not being around for a while but I've been laid up in bed this last week....sick again. Today's been the first time in about 4 days where I haven't felt like coughing my lungs out or blowing....well, it's too gross to share on the DisBoard.

So, I've changed the name of my PTR thread to "I'm NOT not going back to WDW".

I think my not plans have progressed to such a stage that there is not a chance that I would not go....if you know what I mean.

DH is off to SF on a work trip tomorrow; so there will be NO progress on his flight details till he gets back.
I'm begining to see the benefits of that prodding stick......
