Day 5 @ AK – Breakfast Safari with THAT Duck

The last time we were at the World, we had breakfast at Chef Mickeys. I knew I wanted to do a different character breakfast this time and if you’ve read my PTR, you will know that I tried to get DB to think dining options.
So, after trying for months to pin DB and the extended family to some degree of planning on the food front, without any success, I made a couple of ADRs for just “us”. I had booked in at Cape May for DH, DS and myself (more on this later).

Well....I made the mistake of telling the extended family some of our plans. And guess what??? They all wanted to come to a character breakfast as well.
DH and I chatted about this and we decided to do 2 character breakfasts. At 2 months out, I was fortunate to be able to get a booking for 8.10 am at Tusker House for the 9 of us. And Donald’s Safari Breakfast seemed to have the range of characters that DB and his twins would enjoy.

So, we got up early and drove right up and parked at the gates.

AK has got to be my second favourite park at the World after Epcot as I just love animals. So, it was nice to be able to grab a shot of the tree without a ton of other people around.

And then it was time that we headed towards Tusker House. Donald was already dressed for going on safari and available for photos out the front.

And then we headed in and were shown to our table….

Where a familiar shadow came along. She really does cut a magnificent figure, doesn’t she?

Years ago, I wanted to buy an Indiana Jones hat at DLR. I’m so glad I didn’t because I now want a hat like Safari Mickey’s. And please - no comments that this is a better sized hat for me. I already KNOW it is!!

Even Goofy was dressed for the occasion!

I guess khaki must be the “new black” fashion of the day. And it put us in the right “mood” for our day in this park.

Mickey waffles were very popular with the family. And I also liked the cream cheese blintz as well.

I really was training very hard this morning to develop that perfect Daisy figure. I liked the plantains too...although they weren’t a hit with the extended family.

I had read on the Dis and, therefore, expected Tusker House to be much more of a zoo than it actually was. Maybe it was the time of morning that we got there but it was a very pleasant breakfast experience for us. The choice of food was pretty good and I'm pretty sure that there is something illegal in the breakfast juice! It sure is addictive!
We didn’t feel rushed or crowded and the character interaction was very good. Everyone of us really enjoyed the experience.

That's great! I really enjoyed the Tusker House. We had it for lunch. It was just out of this world fantastic. I would totally eat there again!! I'm glad it wasn't crazy for you! It was really quiet for us. Hardly anyone in there when we went.

Isn't that juice at Tusker House so good? We had a wonderful experience there as well, Daisy was such a little flirt and the boys just ate it up!

Those costumes are just fantastic aren't they!
The food I agree was pretty good and the juice was nice. Similar to Boma. I just wish they would leave the jug on the table and let us refill those teeny tiny glasses!

We were there on one of those Zoo like days which made taking photos rather difficult. You got some GREAT shots

Now THAT is food porn.....I'm drooling here....I want a Mickey waffle!!

Maybe all the "chat" about how crazy it can be scared everyone else away..... All the better for us

Yes, my boys loved Daisy as well! And I have a soft spot for her myself.

I tried to work out what they put in that juice and think I got orange and pomegranate juice; a hint of lime/lemon and something "else". I'm wondering if they added that stuff/punch that you get in Mexican restaurants.
Not only did I wish that they would leave a jug on the table...but that the CM would come round more often with refills.

I'm getting to the end of the QSDP; so I should have a couple of TS restaurant food shots in day 6 - 10 updates.

Day 5 @ AK – From Africa to Everest

I had planned an early AK breakfast because that would mean that I could collect the first fastpasses for Everest at 9 am; and shortly thereafter, collect fastpasses for Kali. Then the family would be set for the day! We would hit the Safari first and then decide when to use the fast passes.

So during breakfast and shortly before 9 am, I rushed off to Everest to collect some fastpasses. I collected the fastpasses and headed back to the family. Return time was for after 9.30 am and my plan for the day was so far working out.
On the way back, I suddenly realized that I was a lot sicker than I had thought because I seriously ran out of breath! I had to stop halfway and take a rest because the world was spinning around me.
But hey, I had come all this way and still didn’t want to admit that I was sick.

I guess I must have looked sick because DH knew something was wrong when I got back to the table. And after finding out what had happened, DH took over the fastpass duties for the day
Yes, I know a prince when I see one…

We left Tusker House shortly after and headed over for our 2 week safari. We got on our vehicle within 5 minutes and made our way through the savannah. I sat on the right hand side; DH sat on the left hand side. AND he had the camera! For those of you who have been on the safari, we all know that the left side is the best side to sit.
Our photos are sadly lacking because he spent all his time admiring the animals instead of snapping them….but I’m glad he had a great time.

We did come across a strange animal and just had to take a photo. No one is going to believe us if we tell them that we saw an 8 legged, double necked creature with a long tongue.

I’m getting the feeling that there are real aliens in Orlando…. Aren’t Ostriches meant to have 2 legs?

And then those pesky poachers interrupted our 2-week safari! After 5 years, you would have thought that someone in Disney would have caught them by now!

By this time, DH rushed off to collect Kali fast passes, with a return time after 11.30 am and our day was now set.

We then went in search of the mother and baby gorilla. Sadly, we didn’t see them but I think daddy gorilla has probably had enough of the 3-hourly feed session. Poor guy; he seemed tired to me.

And I just love the colours on this creature!

The kids discovered the Kids Discovery Club and we had a great educational tool for them! So, our next stop was Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

Where we met the man himself! Sadly, I couldn’t exactly see eye to eye with him…and he’s really too old for me anyway.

DH is always a sucker for a pretty face….and insisted that we include StepMother in the picture. He thought that Pocohantas and I didn’t do too badly compared to the witch!

And JC was there as well! Pity he didn’t like me singing about stars! Maybe it was the way I sang it….

In all my Disney trips, this is the first time that I’ve met Jiminy! And I’ve still got stars in my eyes!

It was then time to go ‘home’ to Asia and conquer Everest!

I added a couple more photos of the tree to my collection. I like the back of the tree better.

We then bumped into another tree and it was a ‘DeVine’ experience.

For me, Asia always feels like ‘home’. The sights and sounds take me back to my childhood and I spent a bit of time just taking in everything (and shopping)!

5 years ago, we saw the skeleton of this ride being built and after one ride, this is now officially my favourite ride in all of WDW. And I never would have believed that I would find anything I liked better than Soarin’.

DS and I ate at the Yak and Yeti Counter Service. The menu had changed compared to that on AllEars and they no longer offered the shrimp lo-mein. So, the vegetarian DH had to go seek his lunch elsewhere (at Pizzafari). Unfortunately, this means no food porn for lunch…as the camera was with DH.

I ordered the Honey Chicken with rice and DS settled on the Chicken bites. There sure was a lot of honey with the chicken and it was way too sweet for me. DS enjoyed his Chicken bites. Given the hot and humid conditions, dessert was the Frozen Lemonade.

We then hit the Kali water rapids and it was a great way to cool off. The extended family wanted to go see FOTLK and I was keen to see Nemo. We enjoyed FOTLK in our last visit and we’ve also seen the stage musical. We’ve never seen Nemo; so we parted company.

Nemo was just a wonderful colourful spectacle. I definitely prefer FOTLK but Nemo is a great show, nevertheless. I didn’t take any shots and now wish that I had!

I was keen to really go back in time and we spent some time going hunting for dinosaurs. Surprisingly, no queue and we walked straight on.

Still a great ride; but the boys didn’t dig it at all!

We then had time to go on the Primeval Whirl twice. The queue wasn't too bad here either.

And we finished the day at AK with those yummy Mickey Icecreams! We scoffed them down so fast that we forgot to take a picture!

We decided to go back to the POR foodcourt for dinner. It was our last night at this resort and we were due to transfer across to BCV the next day.

DS wanted to have more pasta and ended up with a spaghetti marinara. This is the Kids serve.

Mr Vegetarian decided to try a make your own salad and the serving was HUGE! And the salad was really delicious.

I decided to go with the surprisingly succulent and moist Roast Turkey and trimmings.

My first serving of this meal ended up on the floor of the foodcourt in front of the drinks fridge and over my legs and feet. I certainly hope that the floor enjoyed the meal. I know my legs and feet enjoyed the additional moisturizing that night. And my shoes still smell of gravy!

And magical Disney CM service – they were so good to me and cleaned up the mess without any fuss; and got me an identical replacement meal without any additional cost.

For those eagle-eyed among you that noticed, yes – dessert was fruit; which I insisted we all got that night.
And there was a reason why I *made* DS and DH eat fruit when they were eager for icecream fudge and hot apple pie….

[Up next – What do you mean? We can get something for free??]

The lady in the tree with Pocahontas is Grandmother Willow, not a witch at all

Sounds like a great day at AK!

So does this mean that the Fastpass machines at WDW start giving out Fastpasses as soon as the park opens? The reason I asked is that the last time we went to Disneyland I read all up about Fastpasses before I went. So, we were there at rope drop and after the rope dropped, I went quicky to Indiana Jones to get Fastpasses to use later in the day while the rest of my family headed to Jungle Cruise. However, I was very confused because, when I got to Indy, the Fastpass machine was not yet operating!

In this trip, I have been at the Fastpass machines at or close on opening time 3 times.

I was at Everest Fastpass at 9.03 am. The fast passes were being issued with a return time of after 9.30 am. You would have been able to walk on to the ride straightaway with no wait!

I was also at the Maelstrom fastpass machines at Epcot at 11.00, and they opened up the doors just a couple of minutes after. Return time was after 11.30 am. But we walked straight on and did the ride and as DS didn't enjoy Maelstrom because he didn't get wet, we didn't do it again.

I was also at Test Track in Epcot at 9.15 am. Fast passes were being issued with a return time of after 9.40 am. We walked on to the ride, no wait and then went straight back on another two times (no wait) and saved the fast pass for later in the day.

Not sure why DLR fastpasses weren't being issued....

We enjoyed Tuskers and thought that the food selection was better than Chef Mickey...mind you we did CM 5 years ago and had a fantastic time then.

Thanks!

All caught up!

Thanks so much for posting that pancake recipe! Yours looked amazing and I can't wait to try your receipe rather than the Aunt Jemima mix!

I am also in desperate need of a Mickey pancake mold. Stupidly I saw these and thought they were for a giant cookie. I bought the smaller cookie one but would have also picked up the larger pancake one too if my brain had been working right? Oh well, I will just have to do what I have done in the past in connecting the circles on the grill pan.

Sounds like you had a great time at Tusker House. Our experience was a little different.

Can't wait to try Kim Possible. Last 2 trips we did not get to experience it.

And I am thinking that we must have been at BCV the same time and didn't know it!

Can't wait for more!

The juice served at Tusker House is the same that is served at Boma. I found the recipe online somewhere...and while it tasted good....it didn't taste like the real thing. Or maybe it was because I wasn't able to drink it with mass quantities of food
That is a great picture of the giraffes....I love trying to catch them with their tongues out
It seems as if the crowds were much lower after I left on the 7th? Hope you started feeling better

I love Dinosaur! It reminds DH of Indy but we both prefer Indy of Dinosaur. I think it's cause we love the Indy movies so much!

I'm sad you still were't feeling well. What happened I wonder? I hope you stay to feel better over the next couple days of your trip!!
