Help me choose dates... please :)

Hello fellow DISers!

DH and I just rec'd the free QSDP pin code and it's pushed us to make the decision to make the trek to WDW this Spring! I've made tentative ressies for 5/5-5/17, but DH is thinking he might like to go in April instead. So... please help us decide!

Here's our dates in question:

April 20th to May 3rd
or
May 5th to May 17th
(and actually any of the dates in between would work, too, if you think that's better...)

Our children are in preschool (ages 4, 2, 2) and have their "Spring Break" the week of April 20th, so they'd only have one week off of school (they go twice a week so they'd miss two classes).

My birthday is May 16th, and we'd be gone for Mother's Day if we went in May (but it's not a big deal because my MIL has passed and my mother would be fine if we were gone for Mother's Day...)

So... what do you think? Which dates would you choose, and why?

We just got back and the parks were packed! I would say wait til May when the crowds should thin out some.

Easter is the beginning of April...that is when most of the country has spring break.
DH and I started our Honeymoon in WDW on April 19th 11 years ago..it was perfect. No crowds, delightful weather!

[[Censored once it was pointed out to me we can't post info that's on a site that requires a registration fee]

4/23 - 4/25 are grad nights and a cheerleading competition. 4/30 and 5/1 are also grad nights.

Also, I noticed your first date range is 14 days, your 2nd is 13. Not sure if that's right.

So, I'd say the 2nd set of dates.

I would avoid spring break at all costs.

That's when we'll be there! Are you saying to expect huge crowds for these days??

To OP, Celebrate your birthday there!

I'd chose to go in May. Just saying because a lot of kids might be out for spring break over Easter in April. I know I am.

I'd go at the end of April - oh, I AM GOING at the end of April!

That is more than a week after Easter so don't worry about Easter crowds.
The weather should be great.

I would not think twice about taking 2 and 4 year olds out of "school".

Our spring break is 19-23 April but we go in the middle of spring break week. So, half spring break, half the following week. DD does miss 3 days of school this year but that's when the flights are cheaper and the weather is beautiful. Last year the crowds weren't too bad during our spring break. My vote's for April but I think either time would be great.

I've never been during that time, so I can't say for sure. [[Censored once it was pointed out to me we can't post info that's on a site that requires a registration fee] I have heard plenty of other people complain about cheerleaders making a lot of noise at the actual resorts during competitions.

But then, for me, 'huge crowd" is relative. I go in the middle of June most of the time

We always go the last week of April and first week of May. Our trip this year will be April 24th-May 2nd. The crowds are low, and the weather is wonderful. Sunny and warm but not hot, and low humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms are rare at that time of year. I would try to avoid Easter and Spring Break. That being said, you gotta go when the time is right for your family and just go with the flow. Have fun!

Thanks for your input, everyone!! I think we're going to stick with our May dates... I've never been there for my birthday and it will be fun to celebrate at the happiest place on earth!!!

Now to plan ADRs and itinerary... I feel so "behind" - we usually plan our WDW trips at least 6 months to a year in advance!!! LOL
