Disney ends ‘Give a Day’ promotion after 1 million volunteers sign up

http://thedailydisney.com/blog/2010/...teers-sign-up/
he Walt Disney Co. on Tuesday ended a promotion offering free theme-park tickets to people who perform a day of community service, after Disney said it reached its goal of 1 million volunteers.

Disney said 1 million people had either volunteered or committed to volunteer just 10 weeks after it launched the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” campaign. The company said it subsequently closed registration for the promotion.

Volunteers who signed up have until Dec. 15 to redeem their one-day, one-park tickets, though the passes have certain blackout dates.

“By any measure, the ‘Give a Day, Get a Disney Day’ program exceeded our expectations,” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs said in a prepared statement. “These 1 million volunteers touched their communities with their hearts and hands.”

We just signed up yesterday!!! We are doing our volunteer work at the end of the month. I am just wondering if they are going to extend this if people dont show up for their volunteering dates??? Because 1 million people have signed up, not actually completed their service.

I would expect the fallout rate to be huge with this. 1MM people sign up, but only 50-60% actually do the day and collect the free ticket. I don't know the specific numbers, they could be lower or higher, but I would expect there to be at least 25% fallout.

I think the completion rate will actually be pretty high - or at least that Disney has factored it in to the point at which they cut registrations off. People couldn't sign up for opportunities more than 60 days in advance - they had it in their minds and their schedules. They wouldn't gain anything by signing up and blowing it off.

There COULD be some number who blow off their dates thinking that the program is closed, they are too late and won't get the ticket, when they will.
