Awww, Cass, both you and little Kira looked so pitiful. I hate to hear that neither of you felt well. You could tell by her little eyes in the one picture that she just wasn't feeling it. I so hate that the three of you had such a terrible time with sickness on this cruise. I sure hope things turned around before the end of the cruise, because I know you guys deserved a heck of a lot better time than you were having.

I had to giggle when I read that Kira didn't move (at first) to greet Minnie. Hmmmmmm, something her and her mommy have in common???

Sure did....technically the youngest BOBer on the ship

Yeah, she doesn't share her dislike for Minnie like her mother

Yeah, it's tough being sick on a vacation!

Yeah, I hate shelling out thousands of dollars so we can stay in bed all day. I know a lot of people say that they'd rather be in Disney and be sick than be at home and sick but I doubt many of them have been to Disney while being really sick.

Day 15 Part 1

October 29th - At Sea

We woke up this morning and Kira still had a little bit of a fever. She crawled into bed with me while Rob was showering. I still felt she was OK and that she just needed some extra rest and TLC. We tried taking her temperature with the ear thermometer but it just wouldn't work. We have one of these at home and Kira hates it. So after 4 tries and her completely flipping out, we gave up. It was hurting her ears so we didn't try again.

Guys don't understand this but as a mom, I just knew she was OK, and not in any danger. I've felt her with a much higher fever than this.

Rob went to return the thermometer while we snuggled and when he came back he was all flustered. He told me that they wanted to see Kira right now. He said they were concerned because she had ear pain.

Ummm. Her ears hurt because we kept jabbing that thermometer in there to get a temperature. They didn't hurt before we did that.

We had a long drawn out discussion about it but Rob was just not budging at all.

I told him that it was going to be expensive and despite having bought medical insurance from our bank before leaving home, it might not be reimbursed because you need to contact them before you seek medical attention.

He didn't care. He took Kira and left for the medical centre on deck 1.

I hadn't showered yet and I looked like the living dead so I hopped in the shower and joined them as soon as I could.

I got down there and they were waiting in the reception area for some medicine. Kira was jumping on and off the couch and running everywhere (not the look of an extremely sick child).

So I asked Rob what was going on and he said "H1N1" with a big smile on his face, as if to rub it into my face that he was right and I was wrong.

He said that we were all going to be given Tamiflu and they were just waiting for it now.

I wanted to speak directly to the Doctor so after about 5 minutes he came out and I asked him exactly what was going on.

Now, I am sure Rob will chime in here because what he heard from the doctor during this conversation is completely different from what I heard. I guess there are two sides to every story so I will let him tell you his story if he wants to.

All I can tell you is what I heard from the doctor and this is what he told me.

He said that it seems like she has the flu. He said that there is no way on board to test for H1N1 but because it is the most common flu these days that they are going to treat it as H1N1. He said that the Tamiflu is given to patients to treat all kinds of flu (not just H1N1) so he was going to give her 5 days worth for her and because we live together, we also were given 3 days worth so that it's not passed around.

I asked him, in his medical opinion, if he thought she did, indeed, have H1N1. At this point he looks down at Kira who is practically climbing up Rob's leg. He grins and says that she seems fine, she's acting normal and that he's not worried.

So we pay the nearly $400 bill and go back to the room.

We weren't quarantined in any shape or form, in fact, the doctor never even told us to stay in the room or to stay away from people. The only thing he wrote was that Kira couldn't go into the kids clubs, which was totally understandable.

Other than feeling really sleepy, extra cranky and moody, she was still our little Kira.

Rob seemed to be doing much better by now and I was doing a little better too. I was tired and achy and by lungs were burning but I was trying to have a positive attitude and enjoy the rest of the cruise as best as I could.

Rob and Kira stayed in the room while I met up with some BOBers for our BOB lunch at Lumieres.

I wasn't sure if I should go to the meet being sick and all but I figured as long as I didn't hug anyone and that I stuck around Bernie and Sean and Nancy and Chuck (whom I've been around this entire cruise anyway) that it would be OK.

Plus I was rather sick of eating chicken strips for lunch by now and I've heard that they made a good burger at Lumieres using normal white buns!!!

There ended up being 5 tables of BOBers I think and although I didn't socialize as much as I would have liked, it was nice to see everyone. Up to that point, I hadn't seen many BOBers this cruise, having missed the first meet and being with Kira 95% of the time in kids clubs or toddler areas. There were still BOBers I haven't even met or seen yet!

*I just reread my second day at sea and realized that I totally forgot to mention that I did get to meet up with some other BOBers at the Smoothie Meet. There was a BOB Meet inside Cove Cafe at 3pm on our second sea day. There was some confusion because there ended up being 2 Smoothie Meets, one was much earlier and it was outside near the adult pool. Not sure if that was intended to be a more private meet because I didn't get an invite but I did manage to get to the official meet, albeit a little late.

We had a fabulous time seeing some old and new faces and while it would have been much better if we were in a bigger location, it was still really fun to chat with everyone!*

Here's a pic of our table. This is Matthew's photo, not mine. Thanks for the photos Matthew!

Lunch was pretty good! It was nice to have a nice soft white bun again! The fries were excellent, I wish I had gotten more than 8 of them!

After lunch it was time for the BOBer group photo in the Atrium.

I went back to see if Rob and Kira were up and wanting to join me for the photo op.

This is what I found when I got back.

They were both awake moments later though and so we went down for the group shot.

The pic from my camera wasn't that great so I borrowed this one from Matthew.

This was the second pose with the ladies on the left and the men on the right.

The guy who was running the auction, which was to be taking place a little later on, was kind enough to take many, many photos of us.

To be continued...

Day 15 Part 2

October 29th - At Sea

After lunch we just camped out in the room. Got some room service for Rob and Kira and just watched Disney Movies until it was supper time.

We waited until almost sunset and then watched the sun go down as we walked all the way forward.

Kira was dancing here because of the music that was playing!

We figured since we were all sick and Kira couldn't go to Flounders that we would have supper at Topsiders. I've heard good things about eating dinner up there so we decided to try that.

From what I read about Topsiders, the food was basically the same as what was being served in the dining rooms and that there was a buffet where you could go and grab your appetizers and desserts.

We thought it would be great for us because we have Kira with us, it would be fast and easy and it wasn't chicken strips or hot dog wieners!

Boy was I wrong about all of it!!!

We were seated and given menus. It was 10 minutes before our waiter showed up and took our orders. There was no buffet at all and there were only 3 choices of each, appetizer, entree and dessert. Only one thing appealed to me on the menu and it was an entree. I ordered the porterhouse steak and Rob ordered 2 appetizers and 1 entree and we ordered Kira the only available kid entree, chicken nuggets.

It took another 10 minutes to get some drinks and bread and already Kira was bored and was acting up.

So we waited and waited and waited for our food. Rob got his 2 appetizers and then we waited and waited some more.

She just wanted to snuggle with her daddy while we waited.

You can see Michael Harrison in the background here, I felt bad for him because he was eating all alone

At this point I was getting grumpy and I felt bad for Kira and wished we had just gone to Plutos for some tenders and wieners. At least she would have been fed right away so that we could go back to the room and rest.

It took FOREVER to get our food!! It was exactly one hour from the time we were seated until Kira and I got any food.

And then when we did get the food it was terrible!! I took ONE bite of everything on my plate (it was all gross!) and then grabbed Kira and told Rob that we would meet him back in the room when he was done supper. Kira wouldn't even touch hers

Rob finished really fast and met us at the elevator. I think we grabbed some fruit from Goofy's Galley and we snacked in the room.

As we were camped out in our room, Flounders called. I had called them this morning and explained to them that Kira was sick and that we had to cancel all remaining Flounders time for Kira.

They were concerned and just wanted to check on her. They said that they were going to send her a care package and 10 minutes later it arrived!

I was so impressed with Flounders! They sent her a little note, with a photo of her and Minnie (the one I already posted) and a whole bag of toys and stuff!!

It was all brand new stuff! I assumed that we were to return it all when we were done but Rob called Flounders the next day and they told us that it was for Kira to keep and take home with her!

Wow!

I had wanted to see Disney Dreams that night but Kira was tired so we just hung out in the room until it was time for her to go to sleep.

Rob worked on the laptop for bit while I met up with S, B, B & G at Quiet Cove Pool. Because I was there early, we had plenty of time to enjoy the hot tub and pool! I'm glad I went because it turned out to be the last time I would get to do it.

It was that evening that I started coughing. My lungs were still burning and it was painful to cough so I did what I could to suppress it as much as possible.

Back to the room and straight into bed!

And just so you know, just this past Friday we got a cheque from our bank that covered almost all of that medical bill!

I thought Topsiders would be a buffet in the evening as well. If you wanted a sit down dinner you would have went to your dining rotation! The night we didn't do dinner we had just ordered room service because one of our party had issues with buffets.

I am glad that Flounders gave Kira a little Disney Magic!

Yup, Topsiders for dinner was a huge disappointment for us too Cass. Except for the company that night, it was awful! We also waited very long for our dinners and if I had to guess, it was probably close to an hour also.

Hopefully, our tablemates (S,B,G & B) had a much better dinner in the dining room though.

What I thought was strange was seeing the Captain (and his "date") at Topsiders that night too. Hmmmmm, wasn't that the night of the Captain's Gala?

Loved your pictures of the sunset too. We have the same one's from the other end of the ship instead. We had a little pity party back there with Joanne, Nancy K, Dan, Mike, Robin, Tony and Stacy. We took a few shots of the beautiful sunset and a couple of some sad faces knowing that our cruise was coming to an end soon.

I really, really don't like Topsiders for dinner also. We went once during a repo to give it a shot and the steak was terrible. I didn't even get one at first. The server brought dinner for everyone at the table but me and it didn't seem weird to him?? By the time they cooked my steak everyone else gave up on theres and were ready to leave. There was a salad bar available then but it was tiny and most everything needed to be refilled so didn't get to try it.

Our last cruise we went back because an officer asked us and that is were they dine when with guest, which is why you see so many white jacket and performers. Even with a high ranking officer service wasn't very good. They train servers there before they hit the main dining rooms so I guess it makes sense.

I think it is too formal there at night. It's a shame they have that in the dining rooms and Palo already. I would love the option of a buffet to go get a quick hot meal when you don't feel like a sit down or pizza, hot dog, chicken finger, room service meal.

I hope how hard this trip was for all of you doesn't stop your trips to DCL and Disney. Thank you so much for taking the time to write these reports. I love the way you make everyone feel as we were along on the trip with you.

Yeah, I know eh! I really didn't think we would get it back. On Friday when we picked up the mail, we saw the envelope and I didn't realize what it was and Rob said it's our Rejection Letter

Yeah, I was not happy about it! And you're right, if I wanted to wait that long for my food, we would have gotten dressed and went down to the restaurant with our fabulous servers and at least had good service!

We had thought of room service too but we had ordered it 4 times now and it wasn't very good. I really wish they had a Deli on board that you could get some nice fresh sandwiches!

Thanks Heather! Yeah I was surprised and delighted! They must have certain exceptions for people on a cruise who can't really make that call first, or don't want to pay the $8/minute to make it!

Oh yes, that's right, the Captain was there that night! Hope his food was better than ours

At least you guys had good company while you waited on your meals! Wish we could have joined you! We tried to keep her from looking in your direction cus I knew she would have ran over to Aunt Nancy and Uncle Tuck!

Loved the pouty Stacy pic! LOL!

I had no idea the buffet was like that! I thought I had read that they only take your order for the entree and then there's a buffet of appy's and desserts that you could help yourself to.

And no, it would not keep me from cruising again. It wasn't DCL's fault we got sick and I still love DCL, even with it's faults.

We did decide to do Alaska in 2011 and to leave Kira at home because there isn't much for her to do in Alaska and we thought it would be a nice little break for Rob and I

When we cruise again with her, it will be on the Dream or the Fantasy and she will be at a much better age with much fewer meltdowns (we hope )

I really think if the med office believed that Kira had H1N1, they would have quarrentined at least her, if not all of you. I think that they just gave you the meds to be on the safe side. And what a magical moment to get all the goodies!

I completely agree with you None of us were throwing up or had GI problems of any kind but you would think that if he was really concerned with us having H1N1, they wouldn't let us roam the ship.
