What's the best GPS system to buy?

I need help!!! I've been trying to figure out what's the best affordable GPS system to buy. We would like one to be able to go geocashing and that will also work in the car for traveling. I'm so confused! I do know that Tom Toms have free updates (or so I'm told) so I was leaning that way. But is there one with both these features? It's so overwhelming when I don't know what to look for!

When I was looking for one a lot of people told me not to get a Tom Tom... they said garmin or magellan were the best. I ended up with a garmin because it seemed like the best. Walmart.com had some really good deals at the time I bought one that had recently been discountinued so it was much cheaper than others with more features.

My husband researched a lot and bought a Garmin. He loves it and even uses it to and from work every day!

I love my Garmin. Not sure, but I heard the Garmin uses the same gps system that the armed forces use-not sure what that means I thought Sears was having some kind of great doorbuster deal on them this weekend. Good luck

My husband has a Garmin which is really good. I have a cheap Tom Tom that I got at Macy's after Thanksgiving sale last year -- not so good. Everytime I get off the highway near my house it reroutes me way out of the way to get here (I turn left and go 2 blocks before turning into the subdivision). It also took us to a "gentleman's club/video store" instead of a family restaurant one time. Not the most reliable.

If you want it for outdoor use like geocaching and for road navigating, most geocachers use the Garmin 60scx with additional maps installed. Its THE most popular GPS for geocaching. The 60csx is an excellent all around GPS. We use it for all our travels. We have 2 of them.

Only novice geocachers use a car navigation system for geocaching, and quickly learn its not what they need.
Your best best would be to read the forums at geocaching.com.

Another vote for Garmin. I love ours. I used my niece's TomTom on a girls trip to the beach and was not impressed at all.

Thank you for all the helpful tips. (I need all I can get)! Looks like Garmin is outweighing a Tom Tom.
