Thank you wezee!
Edit: I just called...apparently our ME was never reserved, even though I did our reservation on the phone and did it wayyy back then. I've seen a lot of posts lately about people not getting their documents, I wonder if there was an upgrade in the system and some folks info got lost. Luckily I got a really helpful CM (his name was Joe) and he got us squared away. Thanks again Wezee for posting that number!

We are leaving on Friday and using ME. We have just decided to take along a 3rd bag, however we only have 2 tags and its now too late to get another one. We really don't want to wait for our luggage at the airport, can ME still get thebag with no tag? Any recommendations on which bag not to tag? We have a large suitcase, a medium suitcase and a garment bag case.
Thanks

When you check-in at the DME counter at the airport, they'll ask how many bags you checked with DME tags. Tell them you tagged 2 but have a third one untagged. When you checked your bags at your home airport, you got receipts for each of your 3 bags. Make sure you know which receipt is for the bag that doesn't have the DME tag on it. At the DME counter, they'll ask for the baggage claim tickedt number for the untagged bag, as well as a physical description of that bag. A cast member will claim that untagged bag for you, will take the bag back behind-the-scenes in the airport, will print a DME tag for it (on white paper instead of yellow), and then will place that bag with the other bags headed for the DME luggage sorting facility on the grounds of the airport. Don't be surprised if that untagged bag takes a little longer to get to your room ... that is, don't be concerned if the other 2 arrive without that 3rd one. |

Every individual named on a Disney resort reservation is entitled to the full DME treatment ... it makes no difference if an individual is traveling on a different day than others on the same reservation. Just make sure that your teenagers are not only on the resort reservation, but also have DME reservations. My strong advice to you is to wait until you are just inside of 60 days from your trip, and then call DME directly at 866-599-0951. Explain to the DME CM that your kids are traveling the day after you arrive, and the CM will make sure everything is correct in the computer database. The reason I say to wait until you're less than 60 days from your trip is that DME is a function of resort reservations, and DME doesn't receive resort reservation info until 60 days from arrival. If you call before the 60 day mark, DME won't know who you are and won't be able to access your resort reservation, and thus they won't be able to make or modify a DME reservation for you. And I suggest NOT calling the main Disney number (407-W-DISNEY) because the CMs who work those phone lines barely know how to spell "DME" much less know the ins-and-outs of it. It's quite possible that if you call the main Disney number with your situation, you'll be (incorrectly) told that your kids can't use DME because they're arriving a day after you are arriving. |

Thank you so much for this info CleveRocks. I was really worried about this one thing and now I can relax and start planning. I'm sure many folks have said this but thanks for taking the time to share your VAST knowledge!

As early as about 6 weeks before, as late as about 2 weeks before. If you haven't received it by about 2 weeks before, call DME directly at 866-599-0951 and ask about it, as well as to confirm that you do, in fact, have a DME reservation.

Has something changed with the luggage tags recently? We received our booklet the other day, and there only appears to be one luggage tag for each person.
There's a perferation in the middle -- do you tear them in half now? I doubt that, but I can't figure out why there wouldn't there be the normal two tags per person? Maybe just a glitch with this package? |

I just wanted to state that after you make your reservations to call DME and make sure that they have your ressie. I am 2 weeks out today and still hadn't recieved my booklet so I called and sure enough no ressie.
I booked online so there must be an issue with the online system. Is there someone that can be notified of this problem? |

When the airlines started charging for checked bags, DME decreased the number of yellow tags they send out. They figured that most people would only check one bag per person. If more are needed, you can call them to get more sent out.
It is always a good idea to give DME a call if you haven't received anything a month out from your departure. They are supposed to get the packets out 4-5 weeks before hand. You can get away without the packet, but you can't get away with no reservation. granmanh603...hope your health issues resolve soon and you are able to go on your trip!! |

A lot of great info. here. Maybe something close to this question has been raised, but here I go. In Jan., my wife and I will be visiting OKW and will be taking DME for the first time (rental cars too high). Please excuse these requests:
1) Do we pick up our baggage as usual at MCO and proceed to the DME area? 2) We would like to return to MCO to pick up a car for the second leg of our trip. Can we take DME back to MCO and do we have to leave the bus at the departure area or can we stay on the bus to the arrival area? If we must get off at the departure area, can we travel through MCO to the arrival/baggage area without going through security. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

1.If you use the yellow luggage tags, that are included in your DME packet, for your checked luggage, you won't be able to claim your own checked bags. The tagged bags are pulled out before they ever reach the baggage claim area. If you choose to get your own bags, then don't use the yellow DME luggage tags.
2. You can take the bus back to MCO in order to get a rental car. But, you will be dropped off at the regular drop off spot....there are no options. I'm not exactly sure why you need to get to the arrivals area. The car rental counters are on level 1...where you are dropped off. Baggage claim is on level 2, with the main terminal area on level 3..this is where you arrive when you get off the tram from the gate areas. Everyone staying at a WDW owned resort is entitled to ride the DME to the resort and then back again, to MCO. What you do once you get back to the airport is up to you. Just remember, you will have to take your luggage with you, on the DME back to MCO. You may want to leave the bags at your resort if you are headed back in that direction after you rent the car. You can also rent cars from various places close to WDW. Alamo/National is located at the Dolphin and at the Car Care Center (by the entrance to MK), and many car rental companies have counters in various resorts in DTD. For instance, Budget is located at the Doubletree Guest Suites...just a short walk from the Marketplace area of DTD. |
