Poor RV and Dapplebeans family

Sorry to hear you all are under the weather - thanks so much for the installement - hey we will take what we can get! You all look so wonderful in your formal night attire - and we patiently await the next installement!

P.S. My DH is not a "handy" guy - good thing he has lots of contacts and we have a really nice young man who comes and does all sorts of wonderful things for us, we make the list, buy the tools and I come home from a hard day of work (or shopping - if it's a weekend) and TA DAH, my list gets shorter and my house gets fixed and pretty cheap too!

Thanks all!

Disnutz - Yay yay yay! Have a spectacularly wonderful time! I'm so sorry that I didn't get Tortola day written before now, but it and hopefully much more will be here when you get back! And by then I expect folks to be reading my tripping and yours side by side!

Day 3: Earth and An Announcement

They say that superheroes never sleep, but the Sink King was exhausted from all of the remarkable things he had accomplished the day before, so sleeping in was the name of the game for this third morning of the cruise. So I slept in… all the way to 6:30 am. It sounds odd to say that day 3 of the fantastic Magic voyage was beginning when we haven’t seen a lick of land yet. But that is one of the things that draw us to the Eastern itinerary: we do love those sea days. Starting off the week right away with two full days at sea… nothing better!

So I did my usual morning routine. I grabbed the camera and the iPod and went up top to sit in my spot in the Cove and waited for Goofy’s to open at 7:00 am. I got a few pastries (you know, that pre-“real”-breakfast appetizer) and sat in the Cove area there with a magazine and my iPod and it was stupendous! They should totally offer a spa treatment where you can have cherry/cheese danish rubbed onto your entire body. But anyway… I sat there until about 8:30 am then decided it was time to go check on my wife, but when I got back down to the room it appears that it was also her time to come and check on me because she wasn’t there! Ships crossing in the night! So I went right back up to 9 and found her at the beverage station. We hightailed it to Topsiders to have our “real” breakfast.

Jozsef was working there this morning, and he greeted us with a smile, and pulled the chair out for my wife. Such a nice guy. Those people work SO hard I can’t even express… to know that they are in the dining room until at least 10:30 pm or so and then at Topsiders the next morning by 6:30 am or so… unbelievable. And they do this EVERY SINGLE DAY! And if they are tired or not feeling well or irritated you would never ever know. Kudos!

After breakfast it was time for Earth. We knew coming into this cruise that we were going to take in a few movies, Earth being one, and The Proposal being the other. There was quite a crowd in the Buena Vista Theater for Earth. We got a good spot, shared a Snickers bar, and enjoyed the movie. Beautiful. And sad. Oceans looks fantastic and is coming out Earth Day of next year… don’t miss it!

After the movie we went up to the Cove pool and hung out there for a bit. The weather was stunning! We ate cheeseburgers, fries, ice cream… and just enjoyed the day at sea. On our way back down to the room we stopped at the Deck 4 DVC kiosk and chatted with the Cast Member there and asked a few questions. We’ve always been curious about DVC and know of it, but don’t know exactly how it works. So the Cast Member invited us to the DVC presentation happening later that afternoon. I didn’t know if it would fit into our schedule today, but that we’d keep our eyes open for the next one later in the week. And special thanks to DVC Mary for all the great info and discussion about DVC over the week!

It was at about this time that the Captain made an announcement that due to a medical situation we were going to be making an unscheduled stop in San Juan, PR because someone needed medical attention. Wow… we were going to San Juan. Due to unfortunate reasons of course, but hey… the thought was a tad exciting that we’d get to see another port that we’d probably never see in our lives even if it is only to pull in and then pull right back out again.

We walked through Shutters and used one of the new kiosks to view our pictures and then headed back to the room to change and do some relaxing.

Sorry, this installment isn’t very exciting… there’s only so much one can say about a day at sea. And again, no pictures.

The evening will have more action!

Hey disnutz! Have an awesome time on your trip!!!

RV, all sea days are good days. Don't apologize for lack of anything (excitement, pictures-whatever) sea days are all good...
they are created so you can become one with your deckchair or one with your ice cream station...
(or both)

You're welcome! If it wasn't for DVC we wouldn't be vacationing these last 3 years w/ DH being laid off & now "under-employed."

DH & I had the same problem finding each other during the week--mostly he couldn't find me.

We joked that DCL could make a fortune selling those James Bond type devices (secret watch flips open w/ a homing beacon to lead you to your spouse/kid/etc.)

But would any of us . . .

really want to be located?

I finally had a chance to catch up with your TR.

I LOVE the description of what you saw when you awoke in the morning! So funny!! Please know that your report DID help someone, so not only are you SK, you are also Clock King (CK)!! Once I read your report, I added "digital alarm clock" to my list of things to pack!!

You all looked wonderful in your formal wear!! The photos with the white background are marvelous as well....I love the one of your DD w/Tink.

Again, wonderful report!!

Hmmm... again with the ideas! Someone could make a mint off of this thread? Maybe we need to look into copyrighting this thread.

Good deal!

Hmmm... Clock King by day, Sink King by night?

I'm probably not the best person to ask because I only used them to simply view the pictures we'd had taken. I didn't order anything or crop anything or remove any borders, but I know that the kiosks have all of that functionality. They were super easy to use, and very handy for viewing. Many times we were impatient and didn't want to wait until the next day to find our photos in Shutters. To us it seemed that the photos were available via the kiosk within two to three hours of having the pictures taken.

Next installment to finish up Day 3 coming up this evening! Watch for it...

Good thing it's coming soon.

I was afraid our good friend RV had gotten inundated with work responsibilities, and was going to step in to lend a hand. You know, something like this:

Day 3, Part 2

"We ate.

We wandered the ship.

We ate some more.

We saw a show.

We snacked.

We stopped in Puerto Rico somewhat unexpectedly. Saw our good friend Smileneyes on Deck 4 as we were milling with the crowd, watching the ambulance pick up the Cast Member.

We went back to our room, saw the warm and fuzzy towel animal, ate the chocolates, and settled down for the night."

I know, not as detailed as the real RV...but what the heck, I was there...

Day 3: The Ship Search, Ship Showoff, and Ship Sickness

So you know that little rolly ball that’s in the bottom of spray paint cans? When you shake the can it clanks and rattles and makes all kinds of ruckus. That’s how I was starting to sound about mid afternoon once we got back to the room. My chest was starting to feel tight, and every breath I took caused my internal rolly ball to rattling (you gotta shake me to keep me mixed and fresh, you know). My head started aching, I started coughing, and my eyes started to burn out of my head (which is my true sign of fever). Day 3 and I was getting sick.

I napped for awhile hoping that I’d wake up renewed, but no, that didn’t really work. I wasn’t miserable, but I certainly wasn’t feeling well either. Stack on top of this the situation that reared its head next… it’s night three of the cruise and a routine had been established. Our daughter would be with us during the day until about mid afternoon when she would go up to the Stack, then she’d come back to the room at 6:00 pm to start getting ready for dinner with us, then we’d be up in the atrium by 7:15 pm or so for photos, then dinner, then she’d go back to the Stack for the rest of the night. Well this particular night, six o’clock came and went and she didn’t return to the room. We held off for 10 – 15 minutes without worry thinking that maybe she was in the middle of an activity or got caught up in something, but at 6:30 pm when she still hadn’t shown up we started to worry. And my wife started to get angry. We were dressed and ready for dinner, and we weren’t quite sure what to do next. I called the Stack to see if she was there, and she wasn’t. We physically walked up to the Stack just to double check and she wasn’t there. We stopped by Guest Services to see if they had any magical methods to finding someone onboard (which I was just certain they would), but shockingly to my wife and I, Guest Services really had no idea what to do and there are pretty much no procedures in place to find someone on board short of making a ship wide announcement over the speakers, which they were very leery of doing. And my wife and I weren’t quite there yet either in our worry. They did pull up the picture of her that was taken in the terminal on embarkation day, but… they pretty much told us to let them know when we found her. So we went back to the room to contemplate our next move and to see if maybe we’d crossed paths somewhere and she had returned, but the room was still empty. Two minutes later, as my wife and I stood there ready to launch a ship wide search, suddenly bombarded with memories of all of the stories we’ve ever heard of people falling overboard, she walked in… and she was immediately (without an utter from us) apologetic. They had gone to the Buena Vista Theater to see the Hannah Montana movie, and she hadn’t realized what time it was until the movie was over. Her going to a movie never crossed my mind, and it certainly never crossed my mind that she’d go see the Hannah Montana movie. Our daughter is pretty anti-Miley Cyrus so… she said the whole Stack group was going so she went too and actually enjoyed the movie. So between worry, irritation, and not feeling well, I knew that this evening wasn’t going to be the highest point of the vacation.

So by this time it was about 7:40 pm or so, so she got ready and dressed for dinner real quick, and we headed up to Deck 3 to check out the status of the atrium. The lines for pictures was gigantic, and frankly we just didn’t feel like standing in line and having photos taken. So we were in this weird time frame. It was too early to go to dinner, but we weren’t going to do pictures, and we were irritated, and I was feeling crappy, so we didn’t really know what to do with ourselves. My wife asked me several times if I was sure I wanted to go to dinner and I did, I really did… it was Animator’s Palette night, and I didn’t want to miss that first night there. So we ended up sitting in the Promenade Lounge watching Chuy and Danielle’s Latin flare until 8:15 pm when they let the masses into dinner. As I sat there staring blankly into space with my boiling eyes, I became terrified… I couldn’t be getting sick! *cough* Not on vacation! Not on THIS vacation! *hack* After everything that has happened leading up to this magical wondrous vacation! *cough*cough* And tomorrow is Tortola day! The day we’re most excited about! *hack* We have plans! Going to the Baths and having an adventure! *rattle* My wife’s gonna kill me! Guest Services will have to pull up my picture to assist in the identification of remains! All of this burned (literally) through my brain.

We managed a few snapshots.

I loved the new lenticular menu's. You can't see the best part in this photo, sorry, but my menu was Sorcerer Mickey conducting the waters which moved as you tilted the menu.

Aside from my plague, dinner was pleasant as usual. Here’s our food from that night.

Jozsef brought our daughter this huge heaping plate of mac & cheese which pleased her to no end.

It was interesting… when we were done eating, our Head Server, Yolande, came over and expressed concern that we hadn’t been enjoying our dinners. We just looked at her with confused looks. Evidently, Jozsef and Gabriella had mistaken our daughters normal everyday eating habits with us not liking our food. You see, our daughter eats next to nothing. She’ll take three bites of dinner and be full, even at home. So I guess over the last few nights as Jozsef cleared nearly full plates of food away from her spot at the table, he was thinking that she didn’t like the food, when in fact that’s just how she is every single day. So Yolande was concerned that we weren’t enjoying our dinners, but we straightened her out expressing that everything was wonderful and that she could rest at ease for table #7 was happy campers.

We stuck around for the Animator’s Palette show, and I missed the perfect shot of Sorcerer Mickey because I wasn’t ready with my camera! But I got this one instead…

The fabulous Jozsef and Gabriella.

Like clockwork, we were done in the dining room at 9:45 pm and walked right out of the restaurant and out onto the Promenade deck to see if we were in Puerto Rico yet. Perfect timing we were just pulling up to the dock. We were pulling in right next to the Carnival Freedom, and there were people lined all along their top deck just as we were all lined up along the Promenade deck on four.

We could see that there was an ambulance right there on the dock next to the ship. Once we were docked we just kind of hung out trying to see in the windows of the Carnival Freedom and played a guessing game about their common areas. It was fun because (it seemed to me, and I could be totally wrong about this) it seemed that we were totally showing off to the other ship. We blew our horn and everyone cheered. Chip and Dale came out on Deck and waved at everyone and did a little dance for the Freedom.

Maybe DCL was just trying to spread the magic to a ship that obviously has no magic… but I personally like to think that we were showing off. Nothing against Carnival cruise line whatsoever, don't get me wrong! I would gladly cruise any other cruise line... if DCL was for some reason out of the question. I'm happiest on the sea, but hey, we were obviously having much more fun than those folks across the way.

While we were out there I ran into Smileneyes and we chatted for a bit. Then my wife and I went up to get a better look from Deck 10. We walked all the way forward so that we could get a good look at Puerto Rico, believing that this is probably the only time in my life I’d see it. It was dark of course, but we snapped a few pictures. We also ran into RCLLweems who took this picture of us.

She has so mad photography skillz, huh?

She also shared with us that she had heard that the medical emergency we were there for was due to a crew member’s appendix bursting!

Well quite honestly, at this time I was dead… it was late, I was ill, my eyes were torches in my face, my chest had a heffalump sitting on it, and I was done! So per usual our daughter retired to the Stack, and I just retired back to the room. My clothes couldn’t have possibly come off faster. I practically melted into my jammies, and the bed welcomed me into its loving embrace.
