I forgot to mention the fresh fruit, too. In the mornings they usually had a fruit salad of fresh melons, and all day they have whole apples, oranges, and bananas out in bins

I am aware of the accessible GV rooms in Rapa Nui & Tokelau. And I have heard that there were plans to convert additional rooms to 'accessible', in Hawaii (club level) and some of the other long houses, beginning in mid-2007. Last year we did stay in a standard GV room in Tahiti, and met a family with multiple wheelchair users who were staying on the first floor of that building--but I honestly don't know if they had an 'accessible' room of one type or the other, or not.

We originally had a Lagoon View room reserved for December, 2008... but needed to switch over to a fully wheelchair accessible room (with roll in shower) to accommodate a family member's specific needs. Since I booked through a TA, we had to have our TA contact Special Reservations and make the changes for us--thus I did not have the opportunity to speak directly with SR myself. A fully accessible room has been blocked for us... but I have no idea what building, or if we have been downgraded to GV (or possibly even pixie dusted with an upgrade).

If anyone has occasion to speak with Special Reservations in regards to the Poly, we would love to know what buildings/views might have been updated to provide additional accessible rooms during 2008.
Tikiman reported that there are now two gardenview accessible rooms in Hawaii as Terry stated. We'll be staying in one in a few months and can't wait. He also said there is a lagoon view room in Tahiiti as well as a MK view in the same building. Two gardenview rooms in Niue have also been added. He didn't know if there were others added.

You shouldn't be downgraded unless you received a lower rate. I'd check with your TA about that.

These days guests don't normally speak to the Special Needs folks. Instead, the DRC CM puts you on hold while confirming the room that fits your needs is available.

Regarding your plan to go to Planet Hollywood, taking a taxi would probably be the fastest way to get there and back. It's too bad that you couldn't get an ADR because then at least you'd have a definite time-frame to work within.

Thanks for the answer...DH may be getting a new laptop from work smaller one and we may bring w/ the DVD attach....just checking.

As far as PH & DTD I was just re reading the pkg description and it says something about "VIP seating between 11-6 pm...don't know if we'd make it by then, but we'll keep thinking.

LOL! I hand-typed all of that info, and I left a "2" off at the end! Thanks for noticing, I'll go correct it now

The Taxi # is: 407-422-2222.

Regarding groceries, I definitely recall seeing milk, bread, Entenmann's (donuts and pastries in boxes), beer, wine, soda... Not sure what else is there. We're usually in there buying boxes of the chocolate-covered coconut Mickey heads to bring back home with us. lol

I'm going in May so I'll take a better look in there. LOL But maybe someone going sooner will be able to give us more info on groceries before then.

I had never thought of shelling out the money to spend at the Poly, but after seeing the pictures on the Poly Picture thread, I have had a change of heart and am tightening my belt. My only concern is the pool: It looks pretty small compared to the other deluxe resorts. We are planning to go the last week of August when it is scorching and will be going back to our resort every afternoon to swim (which I would assume most people do in the summer). Does the volcano pool get too crowded for comfort? A nice pool is a definite for our stay as we will be spending a big chunk of time in the pool. Is it a standing room only situation during that time in August? Is the pool open 24 hours?

The Volcano pool can get VERY crowded at peak times of the day, especially after lunch. The quiet pool (no slide or water features) located near the Hawaii longhouse is actually true to its name. We used this pool most of the time after lunch because there were never more than 10 guests at a time using it.

I had a question also about the monorail transportation. There are two places at the Poly to pick up the monorail? If you don't go directly to the TTC, you can still get there from the other building where you board? There is also a boat to go to the MK? How long does it take to get there, and does it go straight there, or do you go to the GF first? Thanks Seaspray for this great website, can't wait to keep reading and seeing more fantastic pictures

Thanks Simonkodousek! Is it crowded all afternoon, or does the crowd ebb at all? I was thinking of staying at Yacht Club for Stormalong Bay as I hear it never feels crowded, even when it is, but I am yearning for the POLY now. But, if I can't use the pool because it is always crowded, that may be a big issue for me. We could always swim in the quiet pool once in a while, but I want to be able to enjoy the main pool as well...

You can get the monorail from the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House, or you can take the walking path to the TTC. The TTC is where you'd get the monorail to Epcot. If you take the monorail from inside the GCH, you'd be able to get off at the TTC and then go onto the Epcot monorail.

As for the boat route, it makes a triangle: Polynesian > Magic Kingdom > Grand Floridian > Polynesian > Magic Kingdom > Grand Floridian (and so on).

Going TO the Magic Kingdom from the Polynesian, the park is the next stop; coming back from the Magic Kingdom, the boat stops at the Grand Floridian first, then on to the Polynesian. The boat rides is only about 5-10 minutes long (depending on how long it takes for the guests to load and unload at each stop), but it's a fun way to get around the Seven Seas Lagoon

Cool More Volcano Pool and Beach pics!

For your viewing pleasure:

These restrooms are behind the waterfall, "inside" the volcano itself. You can walk behind the waterfall to get to the restrooms without getting wet

With you back to the restrooms, here's what you see:

Early morning, before the waterfall is turned on:

One of the Polynesian's neighbors:

The Polynesian's other neighbor!

The pool being cleaned at night; we were able to swim again once they were done:

It is crowded all afternoon, except at 5ish when it starts to clear up a bit. I wouldn't be hesitant about booking though. The quiet pool is a lot of fun too!
