Beauty for Sale - the movie - a must see
I am sure that few of you have heard of this movie, I know I hadn't then for some reason, about 18 months ago I TiVo'd it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies).
It takes place in a high priced beauty salon, and watching it I could swear it was a rip-off of "The Women." I looked up the movie on the internet and learned that it was made in 1933 before "The Women," which was made in 1939. Got me wondering, who ripped off who. TCM is showing it again on April 4th at 6:00 AM. I'd been looking for a reason to get a DVD recorder, so now I have my excuse.

FYI there is a rippoff of the women called "The opposite sex".
Not nearly as good IMO. PLOT DESCRIPTION The Opposite Sex is an opulent musical remake of Clare Booth Luce's The Women (1939). June Allyson stars in the old Norma Shearer role, playing the virtuous wife who loses her husband to scheming Joan Collins (as the Joan Crawford character). |
