Numbered Cube? Seriously??

Just heard from my son that in his school they are not allowed to call them "dice" because it is associated with gambling and may encourage the kids to gamble. They have to call them "numbered cubes" instead.

I am just

Does your school do this? Or any other examples of society gone way over sensitive?

It wasn't replaced by anything.

Criss Cross Applesauce replaced something else.

Ohhh gotcha. "Indian style." We called in "crosslegged" growing up.

When my oldest was in preschool/kindergarten she was taught "criss cross applesauce."

Curiosity satisfied. LOL

Yes it is, PC going out of control. It is and always will be Indian-style.

Rich Voss (a very funny comic) had a joke that when he was in Kindergarten and was told to sit Indian-style he grabbed a fifth of whiskey and laid in the gutter. Makes me laugh every time.

That's just stupid. Especially given that those 'numbered cubes' dont' have any numbers on them, they have dots.

Yep. In a neighboring school, they are called "number generators." Ridiculous.

My GRANDMA taught all of her grandkids how to play and often played with us!!
THE HORROR!!!

I will call them dice and that's that!!

Somehow the classic Rolling Stones song wouldn't have the same ring to it, if one were to insert updated lyrics:

You've got to roll me,
and call me the tumblin'.......NUMBERED CUBES?!?!?!?!

Seriously, it's like everyone is trying to "out politically-correct" one another, with one absurdity after another.

The fact that the average person wouldn't even make the connection between dice and a negative connotation, tells me that certain people in authority are literally looking for things to be offended by.

Funny, I see the word "number cube" (I've never seen "numbered cube") a lot as I review math materials, and just figured it was one more way to work in a vocabulary word. It never occurred to me that it was about gambling.

My daughter had a part time job working for a city-run after school program. They had decks of cards that were missing cards, so she brought a deck from home. They wouldn't let her use them because they were from one of the casinos in Las Vegas. They said they couldn't use them because they didn't want the parents to think they were promoting gambling.

Playing cards was OK. Playing cards with a deck previously used in a casino was apparently going to turn the kids into gambling addicts. Ridiculous.

Oh what will they think of next. My dad taught my sister and I to play black jack and other card games so we could count in our heads.

I have fuzzy Mickey Mouse Cubes hanging from my rearview mirror

I guess to be completely correct, they need to name them dotted cubes but neither numbered or dotted generators make sense.

ARRGGHHH, what's next?!
