True or not? Spectromagic Dead?

Just saw this as part of a post by Kevin Yee over on Miceage.

Quote:
Just recently, they announced that the promised return of SpectroMagic is impossible, and the parade floats are badly decomposed and must be destroyed.

This was the first time I have heard of this from a semi-official/second-hand source. Has anyone heard tha this is actually true?

Photos were just posted 2 days ago of 3 or 4 of the floats along with other defunct "vehicles" and it seemed to be both under a roof (which was falsely reported in the past as not being true) and in decent condition. That being said, all of the other vehicles pictured are parts only and that might be why these photos were "leaked" knowing it isn't coming back.

Let me see if I can post them...

I only had the opportunity to see this once, and I didn't know what I was seeing. I'd love to see it more intentionally at least once more.

Certainly Disney knows that the parade is popular.

Thanks to a fellow poster I had just read this article. Sounds like it's in pretty rough condition if the source can be trusted and that it's not coming back.

I loved MSEP as a kid in the late 70's/early 80's and also saw Spectromagic numerous times in the 90's/2000's. The last time was 2009 and we were there in 2011 and were surprised when the MSEP was there. But, until I watched videos, the only change I could really remember was the music. I loved them both. I wish they would alternate them.

I really enjoyed Spectomagic when I saw it. I'd like them to bring it back soon, and while they are at it, change back MSEP back to its original version...can't stand the new one.

I agree with Spacedog1975, SpectroMagic is clearly the better parade, but I do get nostalgic about the Electric Parade (pretty sure it was the 1st one I saw). Having a rotation of sorts is awesome. Or blowing the dust of EP for a year every decade or so.

I was hoping to have the opportunity to see Spectromagic at least once more. My kids are too young and never had the chance to see it. I really liked the Spectromagic music a lot better then Main Street Electrical, I always thought is sounded grander, more royal.

However, if I have learned nothing else since becoming a Disney fan it's that when they take something old away it is frequently replaced by something newer and more exciting. I look forward to seeing what they have in store for us.

Much like other fleeting live performances (Broadway theater, etc), I wish Disney would do a professional recording of things like Spectromagic so that they could be sold after the performance has been permanently retired.

That's a great idea. I fink I'd be less bummed if I could at least watch a decent recording of it.
