DVC Tours

Sorry everyone not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this in, but I was wondering if anyone has recently done the DVC tour? I'd love to tour Boardwalk!

Are they offering any incentives to do the tour at the moment?

TIA xx

The actual DVC sales presentation is offered at the SSR sales center. You can sign up for the tour at any of the DVC kiosks located in all of the Theme Parks, Resorts and at DD. DVC will provide transportation to/from the tour and child care is provided during the presentation.

There is a model available to see at BWV - enter from the boardwalk itself next to Jellyrolls.

I'm not aware of any current incentives - but you will get some ice cream at the end of the tour at the SSR Sales Center. At times they have offered gift cards, FastPasses, etc for taking the tour but those perks come and go.

Enjoy!

i don't think anyone has ever even gotten ice cream at the BW model...that part is not really a sales tour. you can see the model and the DVC reps there can help set you up on a tour...but they are not actively selling BWV so no incentives for looking at that model.

just FYI to the OP.

In March, the incentive to tour DVC was $100 gc for those staying at the GF. Not sure about other resorts

Planning on taking the tour early next month. We have decided that resale is the way to go for us. Do you mention that to the guide? Do you bring up resale at all?
I've been thru the tour years ago. I just want the 3 other people that would be purchasing with me to go thru it to get more information.

Sure, go ahead and tell the guy who's time you are waisting that you don't intend to pay him.

If you have already made up your mind to buy resale then why bother with the tour? The info is all slanted to make you buy direct and it will probably just confuse the resale buying issue.

That's like going to your local brick and mortar electronics store, asking the sales person to help you pick out a new TV and telling them "by the way I won't be buying it here, I'm going to purchase online".

Hearing that you plan to purchase on the resale market, the guide will either lose interest in talking with you or will say things to try to scare you away from the resale market. In other words, you are not likely to get good information from the DVC salesperson once you make it clear he/she will be wasting time talking with you.

ETA: I learned more here on the DIS than I did from any DVC guide.

Depending on how long the Guide has been selling and how many sales they close, spending time with a prospect and not closing can count against them. They have a quota to maintain. Same thing with the ASA's in the parks and resorts that set up the sales meetings. If they send a non qualified prospect to the sales center, it counts against them.

If you make contact and insist that all you want to do is look at the model, they will probably send you to the models with an ASA or runner and not waste the Guides time.

DVD is in the business of selling, not touring.

If you are putting four people on the deed and purchasing together, know that if any one of you file bankruptcy or have financial issues or gets involved with a divorce or other legal issue, the timeshare will become an issue.

Spouses, yes. Family members or friends, no.

But if you are in a plural marriage....

The Model Area at SSR use to have specific times of day that you could just walk thru - like the open house at BWV. That way you wouldn't be wasting the sales person 'commission' time. We saw the AKL and BLT model there. Now I think is the AKL and Aulani. I think there was a mock up of the Tree houses also.

We did the tour last week.

older kids played in the play area/ watched Disney shows and the 2 yr old toured with us.

We got ice cream at the end and a fastpass go anytime with 3 on each pass for all of us...even the 2yr old. Last week's lines were short and we didn't even use all the fp's!

I was reading up alittle before we went to the presentation and just saw something about resale, but didn't understand the way things worked with points, etc.

the presentation helped me "get it".

We have decided that resale is the way for us if we go forward.

husband is sold on the entire thing for resale. I left the presentation a little nervous about the yearly maintenance fees.

Ultimately, you will pay more in maintenance fees than you paid for the original purchase if you hang onto your ownership for a long time. Annual fees was the reason we sold off two contracts and reduced from 500 points to 325 points.

Never thought about that I would be wasting their time. We would just really like to see the models.
While I know the differences between direct and resale, they don't. I want them to fully understand what won't be available to them if we buy resale.

"guides" are NOT there to "guide" you, they are just salespeople with a fancy disney name. they get paid if you buy direct and don't make anything if you buy resale. (as a result, some will start lying and saying you cannot use resale pts for RCI trades...others will just be kind of annoyed with you.)

to "fully understand" the direct options, make sure to look at how many points it takes to exchange for cruises, etc...

Disney over the years has spent millions of dollars training their sales people and setting the perfect stage to make sales. They feed you, give you drinks, play music, and make you feel like they are your best friend. You deserve to be a DVC owner, if you love your family you will buy direct. If you buy resale you won't get full benefits.

From the DVC website: "Real estate interests must be purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. in order to have access to the full portfolio of vacation destinations".

Do you really want to run the risk of the guide converting any of the 3 other people?

Bill
