help me decide if dining plan would be a good idea for OUR situation

We have an 8 night trip planned. 2 adults and a 7 year old. We have several sit down restaurants on our list of must do;s
1) Be our Guest dinner
2) Ohana character breakfast
3) Cape May dinner
4) Via Napoli lunch or dinner

We will eat breakfast in our villa each morning. Since we want to do a sit down meal only every other day and eating breakfast in room I feel like neither dining plan fits our needs. i don't want to use quick service for breakfast.

Would we be better just paying out of pocket for all of our food? We definately will each get one or 2 snacks each day also.

If these are the only four, I'd say you are right about doing OOP. Your buffet breakfast would not be a good value on any DDP and you can share at Via Napoli if paying OOP which makes this a really inexpensive place to eat as well.

We are going for 9 nights and our kids will be 5&6. I am making 5 ADRs, all will be breakfasts except for Garden Grill. We are not doing a DP, it just doesn't make sense for us. We are not big foodies and are do not need gourmet meals every day. We are happy sharing appetizers/sandwiches and maybe dessert.

The biggest perk (for me) to the DP is that it's all prepaid. But I will have more than enough money on gift cards for our meals, so I've considered that my dining is "prepaid" tool

If you do the dining plan, plan for one TS per night and one of the more expensive CSs per night as well. If you can't do this, you're paying A LOT of overhead for the convenience of having it paid for.

If you go to these four places and splurge on all three courses and drinks, it's still going to be cheaper OOP than buying the DDP.

Yes, I think your wise to do OOP. We did this last time when in was just us and our DD who was 3 at the time and we paid quite a bit less by paying OOP even though we had several table service and character meals. We would never eat enough to justify the DDP. Even now, with a family of 4, we're paying OOP when we go in October.
