I'm so upset, I could cry :(

Hi all...my mom and I are planning on going to WDW April 10-19, and taking DS11 and DD9....all of our reservations are made, paid for, plane tix purchased, etc. I booked this trip on 9/27/2012 and have done all of the planning by myself, and I know you all can appreciate how much work is involved!! We are staying at the CR with a TPV, mostly because my mom loves it there and we do as well, but I maybe would have gone to a less expensive place if it were solely up to me. Anyway, yesterday my mom came over after work and said her vacation time didn't get approved...long story but I guess she messed up! Ugh! They actually told her to submit a request in writing to make an exception, which she submitted today. So best case scenario is that they take pity and allow her to have the whole time off. However, they did mention that if they did allow her the time, they would want her back to work on 4/18, so she would have to change her flight to 4/17. So my question is, how would this affect our trip? For example, if she has to cancel completely, could I just remove her from the r package? Or if she has to leave on 4/17, could I cancel her last 2 days of tix and DDP? Thanks for any advice!

So

You'd have to change everyone's package to be the same if she leaves early, then book another package for the remaining days for the remaining people. Or, instead of a package for the second part of the stay, just add days to the tickets of the people staying for the full vacation.

If she can't go at all, you can change your package up to 45 days before arrival with no penalty. Actually, same is true for any changes.

That stinks!

If your mom leaves early, you can just keep your package how it is. You can just use her unused DDP entitlements. You will be out of the money for her park ticket for that one day, but it really won't be that much money.

We've done this before when my dh couldn't get off of work at the last minute and he had to fly to WDW a day later. You just have to set it up with DME. In fact, on our upcoming trip, dh is coming to WDW a few days later than the rest of us, and then he's flying home a day early. Just let DME know.

Keep us updated!

If you mom does end up having to leave early, as long as you are more than 45 days outside of your arrival date:

Change your package to include only 2 day tickets, then you can upgrade the tickets individually after arrival.

If you do purchase the dining plan, you will lose out on her last day or 2 because the dining plan must apply to everyone on the reservation for the length of stay.

You could do what a previous poster mentioned as well, cut the reservation short for the day your mom leaves and make a room only reservation for you and the kids for the last night. You may even want to try out another resort!

This is absolutely your best option being that you're within the 45 day mark.

We have had the whole family join us on past trips and some arrived later and some left early. We just keep the whole trip all the same dates for eveyone becouse we still had the rooms. All I did was make sure all the dinning credits were used up. They really don't know if you have someone in the party leaving early and if they do it dosent matter. One person who left 2 days early even took the magical express. It should be just a matter of how much money you can save if you change the reservations.

PPs are right... just keep it all if she's going home a day or two early.
Lose the $20ish on her tickets and use her DDP credits. Or book a signature dinner or something while she's there and use them then. Doesn't really matter.

This happens fairly often, someone having to arrive later than the rest or leave earlier. We were on ME yesterday morning with a lady who was arguing with the driver that her husband, who was leaving today, should be allowed to escort her to and from the airport to catch her flight home. He couldn't, of course, but he had a voucher to go back to the airport today for his flight.

I've done it myself, had a trip booked about two years ago where my mom ended up going home four days early. I had some of her credits and mine left for the weekend (we'd used a couple for dinner earlier in the trip), and we gave up the 3 extra days on her ticket which at the time was a loss of about $16.

Honestly, the change in cost of the tickets for WDW is negligible. You would maybe save $50, if that on her tickets. So, I guess the big question is would it be worth making all the changes to save $50-$100, and then on your last day or two after she has to leave the rest of the family can eat her dining credits.

Now, if she is not able to go, I would just explain the situation, and maybe WDW will remove her from your reservation, but allow you to keep everything else the same, for a minimal fee.

I was able to change my whole package inside of 14 days for the $50 change fee. We shifted our days by 2 on arrival and departure. We lost our preferred room and ended up staying in outer Siberia at CBR, plus we lost good seating at the luau - but our trip was saved, and I had as much as can be expected when traveling with one's STBXH.

It seems like if she has to leave early it won't be a problem though, just use her credits on CRT, schedule DME for her, and change her flight.

I hope you get lots of pixie dust and your trip works out!!!

We took my husband off our package less than a week before our trip (On Monday, and we arrived Saturday) and they didn't charge me anything and all of my money was refunded by the weekend (some to Disney gift cards, some to my credit card.)

They were actually really nice about it since I was so upset that DH couldn't go.

Call the airline. With SW, you can suaully change your flight, you maybe just have to pay the differnece in price- but that works in reverse, too.

Also with SWA- you are allowed to cancel a flight - evne on a nonrefundable airfare. You won't get your money back- but you don't really lose the money either. You get a voucher that is good for one year-I think, from the date you bought the tickets. For me, it's not be a problem to use a voucher on another flight. This is just one of the reasons why I love SWA, and why THEY get my business. Whenever I have the option of another airline, I almost always pick SWA- even if the price is slightly higher, because there policies are SO much better than most carriers!

Also talk to Disney. Tell them your situation and make sure you understand your options. There has been some misinformation in this thread. Read the fine print on your agreement, but talk to Disney and see what they think is your best bet.

Last, did you buy travel insurance? If you did, you may be covered. Sometimes- Disney adds it almost automatically if you booked over the phone. I've actually had to tell them not to add it.

I don't know your mom's situation or where she works...but she might have other resources as well. Even if she can't get the time off officially- most places I know about will allow her to negotiate with another employee. She might be able to swap with another employee. (though she may have to give up a prized date near a holiday to get it, work weekends, or offer to take that person out to dinner or something. )

There's almost always a way to negotiate, if you are polite.

For each day its only around $10 so I wouldn't worry about the tickets.
