Limits in Room charges?

I read on one of the threads that there's a maximum that can be charged to your room account and that it is dependent upon the type of resort your booked at. $500 at values, $1000 at moderates and $1500 at Deluxes.
Is there any truth to that? If so, are these per stay amounts? Or per day amounts?

Yes if you exceed the amounts they take the money immediately like a regular credit card instead of waiting until check out. If you do not exceed they take all monies the day you check out. I only stay deluxe and its $1500. Not sure the other limit amounts

yes it does depend on which resort level you're staying at...it is $500 at moderates (last resort we stayed at)

And all it means is there is a per day limit you can charge to your room...but if you hit the limit on your room, they "clear" the room charge by applying your credit card. So basically, you're running a tab all day until you hit the house limit...then they put it on your charge card & you can start running a tab again.

We always use the room charge and it's never been an issue when we have gone "over" the daily limit...they just put the room charge on the credit card that day instead of waiting until check out. When you see your bill at check out, you can see where they've run the credit card periodically during your stay to clear the tab.

So if you exceed the amount, they won't decline it'll simply auto-credit to you credit card correct?

that has been our experience...as long as your credit card limit is "good" for the charges, they will just automatically run it on your credit card that day. Only once did we have an issue with it, and that turned out to be that the check-in clerk had not put charging priveleges on all the room cards as requested...so we had to get two cards re-issued. But even that time, the charging did work on my husband's room card without problems.

If you don't ever hit $500 during your stay, they don't run it on your credit card until the end of your stay. If you hit $500 every day, they'll charge your credit card every day.

NO that charge will be denied. The charging, to clear your account, is done over night. If you reach your limit during the day, anything over that will be denied.

1) Not actually.
2) If you hit the limit during the day, just call the front desk.
. . . the person at the cash register can call for you
. . . all you do is say, "clear the KTTW" or "charge the card"
. . . it is done while you are on the phone
. . . and, your purchase is cleared
3) In minutes, they will charge your credit card.
4) And, your KTTW starts over again.
5) As far as "overnight", this is not always automatic.
6) We still need to clear it manually in most cases.

NOTE1: To be safe, when you think you are getting close, call
the front desk and ask them to clear the KTTW.

NOTE2: You can get a manager to set the charging limit either
lower or higher. The manager just tells the front desk CM that it
is "OK" to do so. The CM will not do it without an approval. It is
just a few key strokes buy the front desk or by the concierge to
change the charging limit. (Yes, this is a little known fact.)

We try to be diligent and go over receipts every day to see where we are on the room limit. I got caught being close to my limit and having a charge denied at a store, but like TRS says, you can just clear it right there on the phone from the store, or restaurant, or whatever.

When I knew I had a lot of shopping to do and was getting close to my limit, I just called and had them charge it back to my CC so I would restart to 0 BEFORE I shopped LOL.

Ok now I understand. It's pretty much the way that DCL does it. I was thinking that with the amount that food costs there, it would be easy to exceed $500 during a stay.

When I stayed at Pop in 2011, I did go over the value $500 limit I went to pay for my meal at Olivia's with my room charge and it was denied I was mortified and went to the desk at Pop, told them to pay it off

Original poster is correct in that the limits are $500 for value resorts, $1,000 for moderate resorts and $1,500 for deluxe resorts

Note that people are calling it a "daily limit". It's more of a cap. When you hit the $500, your credit card is charged and your account is back to $0. It doesn't matter if it happens in one day or over multiple days.

Those are the correct limits, per category of hotel.

I was concerned because while I'm normally a laid back person, the embarrassment of a declined card fills me full of dread. I'm very careful about my credit and will never even go on vacation until I've got enough money in my accounts to cover whatever spending I do. Thanks for giving me a guideline on how to avoid that. Our next trip is without the dining plan so I anticipate a much higher level of charging than I've done before.
