I Can't See a Thing and Tiger Lady, Oh My! A Nov Mother & Daughter TR Update 5/7

Hi, and welcome to my first Disney Trip Report! Iím Ariana, Iím 39 years old and live outside of Atlanta, GA. I gave a lot of information about myself and my Disney history in the first post on my PTR so rather than repeat it all hereís a link if you are interested:

November 2012 PTR

This time it was just me and my Mom. We are both avid Disney fans and go with family a lot. This is the first time that just the two of us went. She lives up north near the rest of my family so I only get to see her a few times a year. Itís a bummer because we are very close and I miss her a lot. Here we are on the Wild Africa Trek we did this trip (which was an awesome tour and we want to do it every time we go to Disney):

Mom's on the left and then me. I just thought I would specify that since several times people thought we were sisters! Great compliment for Mom, not so much for me.

Some General Info about the trip:

Dates: Sunday, November 25th through Saturday, December 1st
Resort: Caribbean Beach
Dining: Regular Dining Plan

We had an amazing, wonderful trip, very different from our normal. We slowed down a lot this time (only made rope drop one time!) and just took everything in. We didn't get on every ride we wanted to but were ok with that since we knew we would be back in Jan 2014.

We got to experience New Fantasyland but despite my stalking abilities we missed Test Track and the new Pirates experience at HS. No worries, that will be something new to catch next time.

We had some great new dining experiences and one not so great one.

I got Mom the Africa Trek for her birthday and she said it was the best birthday gift ever! It was the highlight of our trip as we both are animal lovers.

I'm going to leave it at this for the into and get into the meat of the trip in the next post.

Next up: Time to head to Disney!

Let's go to Disney! Sun Nov 25th, 2012

Letís get this TR started!

It was pretty nice to have three days off before leaving for Disney. Both mine and DHís families are out of town and we did not travel home for Thanksgiving so we had a pretty quiet day. DH does the cooking so while he prepared the Turkey and fixings, I spent the day cleaning and doing laundry. I got most of the house cleaned that day.

Friday we took it easy and I dragged DH to see the final Twilight movie. I also packed for my trip and put up a few meager Christmas decorations. I meant to take pictures of those and post them on my PTR but never got around to it. I stayed up pretty late Friday so I would be tired Saturday night. I spent most of the time working on a 2000 piece puzzle because I was determined to finish it before my trip (I did finish). I think I made it to bed somewhere around 2 am.

Saturday, I was up early and off to the local animal shelter where I volunteer from about 8 am till 3 pm every week. I only was able to get two kittens adopted that day but at least those two found homes! After, I headed home, finished packing, did a few more chores around the house then headed to bed about 8 pm. Surprisingly I fell asleep pretty quickly considering how excited I was.

And then it was Disney Day! My alarm went off around 3:45 am. I took a quick shower and finished packing last minute items. My dog Alex tried to unpack the suitcase by stealing socks out of it. He has a weird sock fetish. Despite his best efforts to keep me home, DH and I made it out the door at:

Not bad considering I wanted to get on the road by 5:15. My flight was at 7:50 am and I was determined to get to the airport early. I had an hour wait to get through security when I flew home in July so I wanted to leave plenty of time this trip.

I was bouncing off the walls and so excited for Disney. DH on the other hand was not so excited since he had to get up so early to take me to the airport. He did take the time to pose for me and give me his best grumpy face:

After a quick stop for gas, we headed to the airport. DH dropped me off right at 6:00 am. I entered the airport to find a huge line to check my bag because Delta only had one on-line check-in line open. I thought, here we go and got in line. About a minute later, they opened a second line and after the third time the Delta employee yelled about the second line and no one in front of me moved, I jumped in front of about 20 people into the new line and had my bag checked in less than five minutes. Score!

There was no line for security so I zipped right through there and was at my gate at 6:35. It was a huge relief to be at my gate and have a few minutes to relax. I didnít get out my camera at the gate because it was still dark out. We boarded right on time as the sun came up and I took this picture out of my window. I also wanted to show how filthy my window was!

I turned the other way and snapped a picture to show how crowded the plane was:

Just kidding! I had a whole row to myself as did most people on the plane. It was so empty.

The flight was uneventful other than the cheesy safety video they showed. Iíve never seen that before on Delta. It just seemed like they were trying to make it entertaining. I will admit it got me to watch when I normally donít pay attention. I read some magazines and before I knew it, we were starting to descend. I was excited to catch a glimpse of Spaceship Earth and the Swan and Dolphin out of my window but had put away my camera and didnít get a picture. I did get my camera out after we landed and tried to snap a picture of the mini monorail out of the plane window. Itís there if you look really hard:

I got off the plane pretty quickly and we were 15 minutes early which was nice. I snapped a few photos on the way.

Christmas tree by the gates (you can tell I'm trying to walk and take pictures at the same time by how crooked the photo is):

Several pictures of the mini monorail:

Tree in the terminal:

It was so big that I couldnít get the whole thing in the photo. I was taking pictures and looking for Mom but she spotted me first and snuck up on me. I wanted to get a photo of her waiting for me since her plane landed 45 minutes before mine but I missed my opportunity.

We talked about getting a quick snack as our lunch ADR wasnít till 2 pm but decided we could wait. We headed down the escalators to the Magical Express which Iím proud to say I found with no problem. After a quick bathroom stop, we breezed into the line and I snapped this quick picture:

We were the only one in our line and they took us immediately. It turns out they had a bus almost full and we were the last to board so we left right away. It went so quickly that I didnít get a picture of our Magical Express bus but it was one of the regular ones. We were on our way to our resort by 9:45 am.

Up next: We make it to Disney!

Merry Christmas! Am enjoying your mother-daughter trip report! I've never eaten at LeCellier but would love to on our next trip! (one problem tho is that 3/4 of our family is now vegan/vegetarian but I'm sure we could find something delicious to eat!). Great job getting your room so quickly and your room location changed

Okay, I think I know what happened. You sent me a PM while we were on our trip and then I totally forgot to sign up. But I'm caught up now an dhere we go:

1) Love the empty plane
2) for early landing
3) Happy your ME left right away and you were checked in and in your room within 45 minutes
4) Too funny about your mom and entering the dark places with her glasses
5) Love the Epcot photopass pictures
6) That is really about the Visa photo shoot; I don't see why they couldn't spend a little more time with you since there was no line (we had one of those guys at Epcot when we saw a few of the Fab 5)
7) Glad you enjoyed your lunch at LeCellier (we had a bad meal there two years ago for dinner and I'm not sure I'm in a hurry to go back...especially after our meal at Yachtsman)

Okay, I feel better now that I'm here and caught up.

Hope you had a great Christmas.

So far it looks like the Trek was a blast! I've always really wanted to do one of the tours, any of them (mainly one of the MK ones) I really need to set some time aside for one next trip!!

You guys got some awesome pics so far, and experience some really cool stuff! Yay!!

Man, those are amazing photos!! This Trek looks like it was absolutely amazing!! Great shots of the animals, as if they're that close to you all the time! Ack!! Little fact; did you know that when the Safari drivers are being trained, they're told that if someone falls into the Croc pit, they have to drive away as fast as they can! No one needs to see that, and there's a less chance of someone jumping in to try and help them (because helping wouldn't work)

So excited to find your trip report!!

My DD (age 16) and I will be doing a Mom/Daughter trip in March and I have us booked to do the Trek. It is a surprise for her so she doesn't know about it yet but I'm so excited to do it myself and I am loving your pictures and your thorough descriptions.

What is the range of the zoom you have on your camera? You got some great shots!

Thanks for sharing!

Great pictures of the Savannah animals, especially the giraffes. The male was very curious with us too, and came right up to the Boma while we ate!

Oh, and the animals you didn't know were a Patterson's Eland (the big antelope one) and Ankole Cattle, also called Watusi Cattle after the Watusi tribe
Thanks! It was very neat being that close to the Crocs. They barely moved when we were there but it would have been interesting to see how everyone reacted if one had moved suddenly! I'm sure I would have taken a step back without even realizing I was doing it.

Unfortunately the giraffes didn't come too close to the Boma while we were eating but at least we got to see them up close from the truck.

Thanks for the names of those animals! I really should have written that stuff down. I only knew the Colobus monkeys because I took a picture of the sign.

And, as for your ADR at the Plaza: We love this place. It is always our last meal of the trip before we head to Marco.
Oh boy, that would be a hard decision. I've never swam with Dolphins but that sounds like it would be an awesome experience. But the Trek was a once in a lifetime experience for Mom and I. We loved it so much that we are talking about going again in 2014 and taking my Brother, SIL, and my Cousin's 8 year old son.

I'm actually really excited for the meal at the Plaza. I've never eaten on Main Street (well other than Casey's) and I think it will be a fun time.

Thanks, I just kept telling myself "got to get pictures for my TR". Mom even got into the act, pointing out things I needed to photograph! There were times though when I did get caught up and forgot to take photos.

Well, I did use zoom some of the time but the male Giraffe did get pretty close and you can see how close we were to the Crocs!

I have heard that fact! A little scary but if you're going to jump out of the Safari vehicle guess you have to pay the price!

Glad you found my TR! How exciting that you will be surprising your daughter with the Trek. So how are you going to tell her? Ahead of time or just surprise her on the day of? I told Mom ahead of time because I wanted it to be her birthday present and her birthday was before our trip.

As for the zoom on my camera, no idea! I just have a little point and shoot. It's a Canon Power Shot SD1300IS if that helps you any. I've found it does great in the day time but not so good at night.
