Need help finding a good, yet brief tour of the Mayan Ruins. - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hi everyone,

We'll be stopping in Cozumel and Costa Maya. We want to see the ruins pictured here:

But would also like to avoid a 105 minute walking tour.

Yes - it is wonderful place to visit.
No, it is NOT short. It is inland and the drive/bus is long.

I've heard great things about A Native's Choice, they are a tour company in Costa Maya and they also visit the same ruins site:

It's still 4 hours though, but most of that is driving to/from the site it seems.

We did the Disney excursion to Costa Maya a few weeks ago. The drive to the ruins is long. I was happy we were on the Disney bus (a nice bus) compared to the Native Choice's small 10-15 passenger vehicle. Both tours are essentially the same...go to the same place, learn the same info, walk the same paths. Native Choice is cheaper.

The site does say it's a 105 minute walking tour (between 1.5 and 2 hrs) but also that you walk approximately .8 miles - that's a long time for such a short distance!! I mentioned it to my husband, and he asked if they were crawling?

We did this with The Native Choice--they are great--and spent something like an hour and a half walking. But, that was stopping to take pictures constantly and allowing the kids to climb on every ruin where it was allowed...which is most of them. One could power walk the whole loop in ten minutes.

There is one part where you climb a set of stairs equivalent to about three flights (no railings), so it would not be best for certain travelers with mobility restrictions, but it's not what I would call strenuous at all.

This is one excursion that looks so amazing to me...I would book this cruise because of it.
