Lincoln: the movies. did anyone go see it?

What did you think? I loved it. I do love history which is why I wanted to see it but the acting was great IMO.

What did you think?

I haven't seen it yet, but will probably go next weekend. I LOVE history (esp. the Civil War period) so I'm really looking forward to it.

It looks fantastic.

Have you read the book Killing Lincoln? If not, I highly recommend it. It's written by Bill O'Reilly but it is not politically slanted at all. He use to be a history professor. Very fascinating book.

My husband and I are going sometime this week since he has the week off. I'm anxious to hear reviews, so those who are going please let us know what you thought.

First, as I said in my op. I thought the acting itself was awesome. I saw skyfall last week and while I thought it was an enjoyable movie, you know the acting is not engrossing.
Daniel day lewis and David strathairn are great. Sally field was very good also.

I also enjoyed how the really "humanized" Lincoln. He's so "mythical". They really show his humorist side which I had read he had.

Lastly, if diffently made me laugh at politics today. Man if you thought now was rough, Talk about negative politics those guys seriously knew how to insult one another.

I have not. I prefer not to put any money in Bill O'Reiley's pockets.

I know what you mean, but it really is a fantastic book. I'm getting ready to read Killing Kennedy.

I'm hoping to see the movie. I know it's not anything my husband would be interested in so I'll either see it alone or wait for it to come out on DVD. I too love anything civil war related.

I saw it yesterday with a friend. We both enjoyed it. Halfway through the movie some guy a few rows away started snoring. At the end of the movie everyone applauded.

It was a nice change that there weren't any children in the theater.

Looks like you are vastly outnumbered, as Killing Lincoln got to #2 on the New York Times Bestseller list. And his Killing Kennedy: The End Of Camelot went to #1 instantly when it was released.

We saw it yesterday and really, really enjoyed it. We were transfixed by the story and the performances. I would definitely see it again.

As far as taking the kiddies to see it, there are some kinda gross scenes as far as blood, dead bodies and body parts. I think if I had younger kids, like single or low double digits, I would screen it first, then decide.

This actor has such a high-pitched girly voice that I am afraid it would ruin it for me!
I heard (and I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert) that, this version is more authentic.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago at a sneak preview. It was one of the best movies I have seen this year. Daniel Day Lewis was incredible in that movie!

I posted a link a couple of weeks ago that I found interesting. I'll post it again since it is Lincoln related...

This is from a 1956 game show - "I've Got a Secret". In the show, panelists have to figure out a contestant's secret. If the panel is stumped, the contestant wins. Samuel Seymour (age 96) is the contestant. His secret - he was at the Ford's Theater and witnessed the assassination of Lincoln. At the time, he was the last living eyewitness from the theater.
