XBox360 Live at Resorts

My son wants to bring his XBox with us on vacation next month. We will be staying at Kidani Village. Will his Xbox Live feature work there? Or is there something additional I would have to bring to hook up so it works? Thanks!

I think you will be out if luck on the "live" part. There is wifi but its spotty at best and don't you have to plug in directly? My kids use Xbox live and it I plugged into our modem.

Thanks for the quick response. I was wondering about their wi-fi. I don't usually bring a computer with me on vacation so never use the wi-fi there. At home, however, his xbox live does run off of our wi-fi. I don't have it plugged into the modem.

I never got more than a 2 gig connection at the resorts, you need at minimum 5gig to even get close to connecting, and it will still be choppy then

You can run Xbox live on a wireless connection. But I doubt the speed will be up to par at Disney. The online gaming will be spotty at best IF you can get a connection.

I would definitely not count on it, but you could certainly try. If you use wifi for Xbox Live at home then you'll be fine as far as what you need. If you don't you'll need a wireless plug in for the Xbox (unless it's built into the Xbox. It will depend on your model).

Call me crazy... But I'd say, "Sorry son. It won't work at Disney which will be just fine since we are on a family vacation!"

That would be my response....Just seems like more of a hassel.

The pp asked for advice on the connection...not advise on 'family time' at Disney.
To some families, Xbox can be great family time during their downtime in their villas. Just my two cents.

I am sorry, but you posted this for advice, so I have to respond.

I grew up in the time when my dad had off two weeks every summer and there were no phones, computers, pdas, blackberries, xboxes, wii, etc. I loved the time spent with my mom and dad at my grandparents summer house, making puzzles, swimming, playing cards, interacting as a family.

Tell your son it is a family vacation and you are going to spend time as a family. Why spend that much money and watch your kid spend the time gaming.

My younger son also is really attached to his Xbox, but we never allow it to be part of our family vacations. When we are at Disney, we spend time as just our family of 4 - and the memories made are wonderful.

Sorry, I can't answer your question about hooking it up at Kidani Village. Our Xbox is part of our wireless network, and Kidani does have wireless, so it could work. We have not had the really slow internet speeds at Kidani that we have experienced at other DVC resorts.

I haven't stayed an Kidani but I doubt the wifi speeds will be fast or consistent enough for online play. The problem I can see your son having is not so much connecting to the wifi network but getting consistent enough bandwidth to actually play. No one in my family has tried Xbox live at a Disney resort, but my daughter has tried to play Minecraft at AKL, BC, GF and Aulani with only minutes of success at most. This was during our family vacation and I would have been fine with it if she got to play a little bit because it was her main way to stay in contact with her friends at home. If he does try it, report back because the information might be useful to some of us. I hope your family has a great trip.

I'm not going to give advice on not taking it, because you'll get enough of that.

We've just come back from OKW. I tested the wifi speed there and got 3Mb down and 1Mb up, which should be fine from a bandwidth point of view. Ping times and latency were fine too. If I can hold a 20 minute video skype conversation at the hotel pool with 2 bars (of 5 on my phone) of wifi with no dropouts, I'm fairly sure XBox Live should work pretty well. But that was OKW, don't know about Kidani.

But tell him he can't take it anyway.

Sorrry, couldn't resist .

The internet connection strength is unprdictable at resorts, in general because its a shared network that could have 5 people on it or 200, at the time. If he wants to play xbox instead of joining the family at the parks, that may not be so good. If he wants to play during the "off times" say when everyone else is napping n the afternoon, I say go for it. I'm 40 and I love COD too.

The WIFI is brutal apparently so I would leave the XBOX at home.
