Time to compare turkey prices

I have been seeing turkeys for sale this week and it seems cheap at .99/lb. Does anyone remember what turkeys were selling for last year? What prices have you seen this year?

Wow you guys have some low turkey prices!! I think last year I paid around $0.69/#. Today I got a circular for an expensive grocer in our area and they are advertising$0.79/#, so I bet the cheaper stores will come in around the same as last year. Haven't seen anyone else advertise yet.

For the southern DISers, the weekly Publix ad has a coupon to get up to a 16 lb. turkey free with a new or transferred prescription or a flu shot. Good thru 12/5/12. Awesome!

A Publix opened a month or so ago about 25 miles from us. We don't get their ads in our newspaper, but my daughter found an offer in their weekly on-line ad through Wednesday to get a free turkey with a new prescription or if you got a flu shot. DH and I both got shots on Friday (which we needed to do anyway) and got a 16# turkey each. The shots were free after insurance.

OP, hope you don't mind if I hijack slightly, but I was wondering how much a ham should cost? What's a good price per pound? I've never purchased a ham before and would like to have one for our Christmas party, but I'm kind of clueless when it comes to price Thanks in advance!

I've seen store brand spiral cut hams (bone-in) for $1.79 to $1.99/lb last week (here in Denver). I lucked out and got a Hormel Cure 81 bone in spiral sliced ham for $1.99/lb. because Walmart had incorrect price tags up for them, and the manager honored the price on the shelf. It would have been almost $4.00/lb. BUT, the store brand (at least the Target store brand...Archer Farms) ham is REALLY good. We eat ham AND turkey all year long...not just at holiday time.

I also bought a Butterball turkey at Target for .99/lb Saturday night, but that was the last day of the sale. I'll probably be buying several more turkeys and hams during the holiday season since that's the cheapest they usually get all year, except for Easter.

Guess I'd better get in on Turkey Watch 2012 as I'll be cooking one this year.

MIL usually cooks it but last year I did everything BUT the turkey & hauled it to her house. I told DH if I was going to cook 9/10 of the meal, I'll just do the turkey too and they can come here!

And maybe a general location also, as that can make a difference.
