LA to Vancouver for Alaskan Cruise...
Due to a large job just coming in for my company it looks like I'll be getting a bonus, so I'm finally looking at doing the Alaskan cruise.
But as it's been ages since I've been there I'd also like to hit Disneyland (the last time I visited they were still building DCA!) So, I spoke to Virgin Atlantic and I can fly into LAX but back from Vancouver for only slightly more than the cost of an LAX return flight but I've got to get from LA to Vancouver. My partner was talking about doing a 'road trip' but I don't think that's viable, so does anyone have any ideas on how we can get from LA to Vancouver easily?

Just going to move this from the DLP board to the California one
but ..... I may be able to help a little along the way! We're doing the same holiday but the other way round to you and are flying into Vancouver and home from LA. We've booked flights for the middle leg with Alaska Airlines for which we've paid approx £140 each. We did look into travelling down by train but it was going to eat too much into our DL time. We also looked into flying from Seattle which is cheaper and easy enough to get to/from with Quick Shuttle but in the end we chose to fly from Vancouver because it was the most convenient and also got us to DL quicker! If I remember correctly it's Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, and West Jet who fly that route.

Did I manage to put this in the DLP forum? Doh! I meant to put it in the DCL forum. Thanks for moving it.

In that case I need to apologise because I've moved it to the California one and I don't have the 'powers'
to move it from there. Perhaps it would be a good idea to repost it on the DCL board - you may get more replies if it's in two places.

Do you have a few days? If so, consider taking the Amtrak Coast Starlight in a sleeper car -- especially if you don't have kids with you.
Costly? Yes. But the scenery / nature is incredible, the food is good, and the experience is once-in-a-lifetime given that the Coast Starlight has the only Amtrak Parlor Car service in America. Just realize its a 36 hour trip to Seattle and then another 2 hour train ride on the Cascades the next morning to Vancouver. But, just like a cruise, you are really treated very well and they even have free wine and cheese tasting. In my opinion, there is just nothing like sitting in the parlor car watching Mt. Shasta and Oregon go past you window. Robert |

A "road trip" is always fun. We've done it multiple times in the 1990s, when our kids were young and gas was cheaper. The drive is about 24 hours long with a sleepover in Redding, California - also depends on how many stops you make along the way. For us, we stopped in many Target stores for bathroom breaks and little treats for our girls to keep them occupied on the road trip. If you take I-5, it's faster and less scenic. If you take the 101, it's very scenic, though a very windy road at times. It's a great way to see the West Coast.
If you decide to fly, I echo the above poster about Air Canada, WestJet and Alaska Air. I've flown all three, and they're all good though WestJet gets the edge as they don't charge for check-in luggage.
