Budget to Port Canaveral

Hi we are off on our first cruise on the Fantasy in a few weeks and have hired from Budget (also a first) to drop off in Cape Canaveral. I managed to get the 1100 port arrival time so what time would you recommend we get to Budget so we can be at the port for 1100? Do the shuttles run constantly or at set times?

Thanks!

We found it to work pretty good in terms of leaving the car and finish the paperworks. The shuttles ran constattly and it took abot 10 min to the port with a Carneval drop off before ours.
BUT!!! The line for the shuttle was insane. There were just too many people leaving cars that day ( a staffmember said that it was partly due to Disneys larger ships ( we were also on the Fantasy).
It took us an hour to get on a shuttle from our arrivaltime at Budget!
But on the plus side: when we got to port we could walk right on the Fantasy, since our number had been called.

We have done budget it twice now but before the new ships.

What we did in the past was have DH drop myself, our son and our luggage off at Disney's terminal so I could check us in and he then dropped off the car with budget by himself. This made it easier for him to get on the shuttle back to port since it was just himself and no luggage. It typically took him around 45mins to catch back up with us.

Didn't use budget, but followed this exact plan with Dollar/Thrifty and it worked well. Agree also with the 45 minutes and that included topping off the gas tank before dropoff. When at the rental agency, stand outside where the shuttle picks up or others will and you'll get bumped by being inside.

we did this in August...it was horrendous and i mean horrendous...the lines were huge to get a shuttle to the port, there were NO shuttles in sight and there was a storm coming...we shared a taxi (me, wife, DD) with someone else on our cruise...it cost us $20 and yes there were plenty of taxi's at Budget (i got the idea they were like vultures who could sniff out problems)...

the problem is if you get there to early all the shuttles may be at the port picking up disembarking passengers...we got there a wee bit late (12:15ish?) and it was a nightmare....then again our Fantasy WC cruise left on a Saturday so if you are not embarking on the weekend it should be a piece of cake...

This is what we have done in the past also. Does anyone know if this is still possible with the new boarding for Fantasy?

I think I might return rental car the night before and have a taxi pick us up at the hotel and take us to the ship. . Will have to be a van for all the luggage and five people. I'm one of those that doesn't like to hurry and wait when I have a cruise with an early port arrival time. The sooner on board the better!

Thanks for all the advice. I think we will aim to get to Budget by 10 a.m. and then see what the line for the shuttle is like. If it looks like it's going to be a nightmare we will take the taxi - even if it means walking to the gas station to get them to call one for us! Don't want to be starting this stressed!

I was worried about what some had said earlier. There were three vehicles rented in our group. We booked budget, dropped of the families at the terminal, they checked in and waited in the departure area. We took the vehicles to the budget office where their was no lines, as soon as we were finished doing the paperwork there was two shuttles waiting to take passengers back to the DCL terminal. We were quickly on our way, the driver was friendly and very informative. If you want to call this a bottleneck which I wouldn't is we had to wait in line with all the other traffic to get to the numbered drop off location at the cruise terminal. This had absolutely nothing to do with Budget, it's just sitting in traffic. The time in line was not long at all. I would say it took us about 45 min from when we originally dropped off our families, topped up the gas, returned the vehicles and shuttled back to the terminal. Absolutely now complaints with the process, the cost difference for my family was well worth it compared to the DCL bus offerings from the airport or WDW. I highly recommend doing this, we will be doing the same on our next cruise in 2013.

We did not have a terribly long wait at budget for our 10/20 cruise to get to the port. We waited maybe ten minutes or so, we arrived at budget around 11:00 am. There WAS a long line at the port to get back to Budget after the cruise. There was an employee there who said we would make the third shuttle, so we decided to get a cab, which worked well for us.

As above, I've never encountered a line at Budget when I dropped off a vehicle. In fact, on 2 occasions by the time I came out from returning the car (2 minutes of paper work), the shuttle driver and my friends/family already had the luggage loaded onto the shuttle and were waiting for me! Budget usually operates 2 shuttles on cruise days to minimize waiting.

If you drop the car at Budget at 10:30, you should be back at the terminal at 11; if you want to be there when the terminal opens, move that up by a few minutes OR do the "drop the family and luggage first" bit.

We have encountered lines after the cruise when we were picking up a car. Again, a suggestion: if the shuttle does not have room for a family with luggage but has space for a "single, no luggage," have the driver get on the shuttle and get the car. He can then return to the terminal area to pick up the family. He can also get quickly in the line to get cars as he doesn't need to wait for luggage to be taken off the shuttle.

This used to be our experience with Budget. Never had a wait for the shuttle -- until this fall; both in September and last week. September wasn't as bad and the driver explained that changes in the port have slowed them down. But last week was horrible. We went to the port to drop off luggage and there was some traffic but not really bad. Topped off the gas and went to Budget and the line for the shuttle ran all the way down the side of the building and looped into the parking lot. We waited in line for almost an hour and a half Budget was running two shuttles and two vans. We had no luggage and had hoped that would help get us on a "full" shuttle (everyone else in line had tons of luggage with them). They just filled the shuttles with whoever was at the front of the line, never called for anyone to fill the extra seat or two (I'm guessing they assumed everyone had luggage.) What really annoyed me though was how the Budget employee who came out to move cars, answered someone's question about taking a taxi. In a very loud voice, she told them that anyone who takes a taxi rather than waiting for the complementary shuttle was just stupid. That she knows better and those stupid people just pay a lot to sit in the same traffic that their shuttles have to sit in. Normally the people there are quite nice so I was rather shocked by her very loud comments. If were weren't third and fourth in line for the next shuttle, even after all that time, we would have called a cab.

Just for the record, the now long wait times for the shuttles aren't entirely the fault of the rental car companies, it is the Port's fault. They have changed the traffic pattern and make them have to go in and out of the port in a specific pattern and they get stuck in traffic at every cruise pier they stop at and often have to wait at each pier before they can even off load passengers/luggage. It is a pain. My advice, if you see a long line for the rental car's shuttle, call a cab. You might wait in a little traffic, but the taxis don't have to do the same full circuit the shuttles and buses do.
