I try to avoid taking a car into NYC and I only live 45 minutes away. Street parking is hard to find and reading the parking signs can be an exercise in futility. I would use the subway, busses and walking to get around.
When we went on the cruise out of NYC, we took a train to the city and then walked to the port. We could have taken a subway and bus to the port but the day was beautiful so walking was more pleasant. Also I lived in the city for 4 years in college and never missed having a car. The subway system plus your feet will get you anywhere you want to go with less hassle then a car.

We stayed at World Center Hotel and used Dial 7 for the three major trips around the city (airport-hotel, hotel-port, port-airport). Used the subway to get around for dinner the night we arrived and for breakfast the next morning.
I used Priceline Name-Your-Own-Price to book the hotel. I liked it and would stay there in the future. |

we drive into the city-honestly- sunday at 10am was no problem at all but I am very comfortable driving in the city since I have family there are drive often. We parked at the terminal.
For us it made the most sense to drive and park- we live in philly so a car service for four would not be worth it and we did look into some suggestions of ferry from Weehawken I think it was- but with a 3 year old and a 7 year old- it was not worth it for the headache. Here's hoping DCL will be returning to NYC!

We stayed at the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge when we cruised DCL out of New York. We then drove to the port and parked there. We would have stayed in Manhattan but we booked an IGT and Manhattan/Times Square hotels were either sold out or way too expensive (we cruised over the Labor Day weekend).

We live about 2 hours from NYC in South Jersey. We drove to the terminal the morning of our cruise and parked right on the pier. It was very easy and not terribly expensive.
