Dinosaur

We are heading to Disney in 2 days and we are talking about rides that we want to go on. Dinosaur came up. We rode it a few years back..and my oldest (who was 8 at the time) was really scared and crying. Now she is 11 and wants to try again. But wants to make sure she is not on the side the dinosaur jumps out. Can anyone tell me ....should I let her get in first or last??

Thank you for your knowledge

The dinosaur pops out on the right side so depending on which side of the loading area you are on just make sure she is on the left side of the car.

A friend told me they tamed the ride down in the last few years. Said it's scary, but not like it used to be. I wouldn't know. It is very loud, though, and has some completely dark spots. Don't think an 11 year old would have a problem. (The 5 and 3 year old in front of me sure did - stupid parents.)

Don't know how it used to be, but my adventurous 8yo dd LOVED IT. We rode twice in a row (Fast Passes) and she would have done it again...but the line was too long

Ugh, I don't know about this.

Dinosaur is scary, and dark, and loud, and jerky. But that's exactly why I love it!

I would keep the DD in the middle and give her an arm to snuggle into, just in case

Thanks everyone. I thought it was that she needed to be on the left..but wanted to make sure. It is funny because she wants to try it..but I think once we get there, she may back out. Now my youngest (who is 6) was dancing around the house because she is excited to go on it again. kids LOL

Dinosaur is relatively tame all things considered. My 8 and 10 year olds love it and they refuse to do Everest or ToT and the like

Hmmmm... I don't know about those kids, but my four year old begged to go on this. Even though I warned her repeatedly that it was scary and dark. I really, really thought she was going to freak out, but I she didn't. She was obviously rattled when we got out, but not crying or making a fuss.

Sometimes children want to do things even when their parents advise against it. Can't blame the parents for everything ya know!

It's 4 seats across - so put your DD in the middle.

The first year we went both my kids were scared of these types of rides....my DD in particular would get really panicked. I had to make her go with us though because she was too young to be left outside by herself. OK - OK...I did it for ME...I REALLY wanted to ride it! So I pushed her head in my shoulder and covered her ears with my hands. That's how she stayed the ENTIRE ride. She was not happy I made her do it, but we felt it was an acceptable compromise and she survived

The next year she was still scared of it (she was freaked out by the Norway ride too!) but I love the ride, so we did the same kind of thing. This time no tears as she knew what to expect. She peeped out for part of the ride LOL.

This year, she was able to handle BOTH the Norway ride AND keep her eyes open for the entirety of Dinosaur. She wasn't even nervous at the thought of going into either ride.

To be fair, this is the first year she would have handled going to eat at a place like T Rex. The years before, dinosaurs freaked her out and she would hide in terror even in museums.

Hope your DD loves it!

We rode in 2005 with our then 7, 5 and 3yr old. The 7 yr old was scared to go on it, but did, he was fine, the 5 yr old was unphased by it, the 3 yr old, was in tears scared, but got over it quickly when he saw his scared silly picture.

This year, in August 2012 we went with our now, 14, 12, 10, 6 and 3yr old. The 6 and 3yr olds were scared during the ride, but fine at exiting. Wanted to go on it again.

Kids will either like, love or hate it. You won't know until you try it. I will say in 2005 it was much scarier than in 2012. I have that picture, and the dinosaur nearly ate my 3yr old in 2005, but the dinosaur in 2012 did not come out as far.

They did when it changed from Countdown to Extinction to Dinosaur. That was back in 2000 when making the ride over as a tie in to the movie, Dinosaur.

It's scary no matter where you sit! But being on the left, farther from the dinosaur, might be a little less scary.

From my experience, this is one of those rides that people and their kids either absolutely love, or absolutely hate.

There are 3 rows of 4 seats. The back row is a bit of a rougher ride, whereas the front row is a bit tamer.

The Carnotaurus (most people call it the T-Rex) appears on both sides of the time rover throughout the ride, but the biggest, loudest roar towards the end (when your picture is taken), happens on the right side of the rover. Your best bet would be to put children in the middle two seats as previous posters have stated.

It's dark and loud, but it's so much fun!

Chalk me up as another "stupid parent" I guess. I took my oldest 2 kids when they were 3yo and 4yo and they LOVED it...we rode it mulitiple times that trip and Ds also started his dinosaur collection that trip.

Stupid here, too! My 4-year old loves Dinosaur. TOT, not so much, but she survived that unscathed and askiing to try again next time. We have a try everything policy in our family. I ride Small World until my ears bleed and she tags along with us where it's safe.
