Booking Aulani in Dec 2012 and WDW in Dec 2013
I'm am getting ready to close on a 100 pt contract for AKV in about a week. I have two reservations that I'd like to make, and I need some advice b/c it looks like I'll need to rent some transfer points from another member.
My available points over 2012-2013 are as follows: Sept 2012 - 25 points available Sept 2013 - 100 points available Sept 2014 - 100 points available to borrow Total 225 available So I'm wanting to do: Trip 1 63 points - 1 night at Aulani - 2 BR Villa - Anytime Dec. 23 through 28, 2013 Trip 2 178 to 236 points - 15 nights either primarily at AKV or split between resorts, Studio. Dec. 13, 2013 to Dec. 28, 2013 So basically I have 225 points and will need between 241 and 299 points to make these trips. Suggestions on when to rent points from another member. Should I rent point first to just cover the Aulani trip? And then again in January? The Aulani reservation will need to be made in Oct. 2012 (assuming it's available).

I would transfer the points you need, same resort to make your reservations. That way you don't have to possibly make multiple point rentals.

If I transfer points next month in October, are those bankable so I can use them for my Dec. 2013 trip?

Yes, you can bank transferred points. Just remember, points retain their UY and home resort once transferred into your account.

My suggestion would be to wait to get a transfer until after you book your room at Aulani.
One reason is that the room at Aulani may be more points than you hoped, because the least expensive 2 BR may not be available. I think the best availability is for the most expensive rooms, those with partial ocean views. If you can book a standard view room at Aulani, then you are only 16 points short for your December 2013 vacation. You can "buy" up to 24 points per year from DVC for $15 per point when booking at a non-home resort (i.e., when you book Aulani). This may not be as inexpensive as transferring points from another member, but it is much more convenient. Best of luck -- Suzanne |
