The Greatest Hits: A Trip Like This Needs a Soundtrack!-A July 2012 TR Upd. 5/5!

The Greatest Hits: A Trip Like This Needs a Soundtrack!- A July 2012 TR

HELLO and , everyone, to my fourth trip report! If you dont know me and youd like some background reading, please feel free to explore my previous TRs. You can find all three in my signature. I hope you enjoy reading about my past trips and my most recent adventure! If you already know me and youre still reading this, bless you. You have obviously accepted and embraced me and my craziness, and for that I am eternally grateful.

So, allow me to introduce myself...

I wanna rock right now.
I'm Joni and I came to get down.
I'm not internationally known,
but I'm known to rock the microphone.

Okay so Im really not internationally known, OR known to rock the microphone, but I am known for being a Disney World fanatic and trip report writer! The reason I chose lyrics from everyones favorite one hit wonders, Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, is because I decided a long time ago that I wanted to write this trip report a little bit differently. You know how sometimes when life is going really great, you find yourself wishing you lived in the movies where there was the perfect song playing in the background all the time? Well, thats how I felt on the trip. Everything was so amazing, I just felt like it NEEDED a soundtrack to go along with it. I mean seriously, so much amazing stuff happened on this trip. Were talking surprises, an awesome DISmeet, celebrity encounters, tears of joy, first experiences, hilarious antics, and lots of pixie dust! So thats what Ive done- Ive compiled a soundtrack to complement this trip report! The songs will all be relevant to the updates in some way- it could be anything from a silly play on words, to a song that I have some sort of deep emotional attachment to that reflects my feelings during that particular time. Every update will be accompanied by a song, with a link provided for your listening pleasure. Also, the song title will also serve as the chapter title for each update. I will also be posting a soundtrack track listing in the chapter links section, so if you feel the need to download and burn the soundtrack of this trip, you can easily do that.

Now that weve got the basic layout of my TR down, lets do some introductions!

The Cast

Me: Im Joni, and Im a 25 year old high school English teacher from beautiful NC. I have been to Disney World 10 times since 2007, and Im completely obsessed. Everything about it is pure magic to me, and I will NEVER get tired of going. My life is not complete unless Im either A.) planning my next trip to Disney or B.) actually in Disney World. Even though I a didnt start going to Disney until I was an adult, the magic is not wasted on me AT ALL. Every trip just keeps getting better and better, and I am more in love with it now than ever.

My Disney Breakdown:

Favorite Movies: Aladdin, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast
Favorite Songs: Circle of Life, Stay Awake, A Whole New World, Beauty and the Beast
Favorite Characters: Aladdin, Jasmine, Woody, Pluto
Favorite Park: Disneys Hollywood Studios
Favorite Ride: Rockn Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Favorite Non-Ride Activity: Animation Academy
Favorite Resort: Beach Club
Favorite Restaurant: Le Cellier, Beaches n Cream, and Ohana
Favorite Dessert: No Way Jose from Beaches n Cream

John- My wonderful 26 year old husband. John is a Green Beret in the US Army. Hes 62 and covered in tattoos, but he loves Disney World almost as much as I do. John isnt really into the planning part, he just likes going on the trips. Hes more of a go with the flow kind of guy, and he likes to relax at Disney a little more than I prefer, but other than that hes a great traveling partner! John was my companion on the first week of my trip!

Johns Disney Breakdown:

Favorite Movies: The Jungle Book, Swiss Family Robinson, The Sword in the Stone
Favorite Songs: Gaston, Les Poissons
Favorite Characters: King Louie, Shere Kahn
Favorite Park: Disneys Animal Kingdom
Favorite Ride: Expedition Everest
Favorite Non-Ride Activity: Drinking around the World Showcase
Favorite Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge
Favorite Restaurant: Le Cellier, Yak & Yeti, Ohana
Favorite Dessert: Fried cream cheese wontons from Yak & Yeti

Mom- My mother, Sandra, is also my best friend in the world! This was her first trip to Disney, and she came down for the last three days of my trip. My mom doesnt get to travel much because she has some health issues, so I gave her this trip as her birthday present. We only had a few days for her to see everything, but she fell in love! It was truly magical for me getting to see her experience everything for the first time!

Moms Disney Breakdown:

Favorite Movies: Mary Poppins, Snow White
Favorite Songs: A Spoonful of Sugar, Jolly Holiday
Favorite Characters: Mary Poppins, Princess Tiana
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride: It's a Small World
Favorite Non-Ride Activity: Meeting characters
Favorite Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter
Favorite Restaurant: Sci Fi Dine in Theater, Casey's Corner
Favorite Dessert: Dark chocolate covered caramel from Karamell Kuche

Trip Details

When- This was my longest trip Ive ever taken! I left home with John on July 7th. John stayed until the 15th, then my mom flew down and we stayed for three days, flying home together on the 18th. Thats eleven days for me!

Where- During my time with John, we stayed at the Beach Club for the first time!

With mom, I stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter!

Before we begin, heres a few more details you should know for how this report will be written. I have decided to write the portion of my trip spent with John in a blue font, and the portion of my trip spent with my mom in a pink font. Also, I have written very thorough dining reviews that I will be sharing with you. I have established a system for rating my dining experiences. I will be judging them based on: service, atmosphere, food quality, and overall dining experience. The rating system will be as follows:

Category 1- The Remy

This place is the best of the best. Like its namesake, a Category 1 meal is all about good food and good dining experiences. It just doesnt get any better than this!

Category 2- The Emile

This place has potential, but it also has the potential to be a little imperfect, just like Remys brother. Hes open to new ideas, but still gravitates toward eating trash. A Category 2 meal was pretty good, but could use some improvement.

Category 3- The Django

Like Remy and Emiles garbage loving dad, a Category 3 meal is just kind of gross or disappointing. A meal in this category definitely did NOT live up to our expectations.

Okay so thats the basics for our meal rating system, however, I really enjoy making things complicated, so THERES MORE.

Anyone who knows me knows how seriously I take my meals (obviously, judging by my intense meal rating system you just saw). One of my favorite foods in the entire world is CUPCAKES. Before I left on this trip I decided to attempt a Disney World cupcake crawl. It wasnt as successful as I had hoped, but I still managed to sample and rate some of the most popular cupcakes in WDW. In order to review said cupcakes, I developed a special rating system that I like to call...

The P.I.E.C.E of Cake Guide to WDW Cupcakes

P- The Presentation. This is the overall appearance of the cupcake. Is it aesthetically pleasing? First impressions are very important, even for cupcakes.

I- The icing. What cupcake is complete without iicing? This portion of the evaluation tool will focus on that delicious topping thats the...well..icing on the cake!

E- The extras. WDW loves to add special touches to its cupcakes that makes them even more amazing. This portion of the evaluation will look at those extra toppings on each cupcake.

C- The cake! Duh. I mean, its the most important part. They dont call it a cupCAKE for nothin!

E- The eating experience. This is the overall feeling that eating the cupcake gives the devourer. Was it too filling? Too sweet? Too messy? Or just right? This part will answer those questions.

Hopefully using my state-of-the-art P.I.E.C.E of Cake Evaluation Tool, I can help you determine the absolute best cupcake in all of Disney World!

I think that about sums in up for the introductions, so I hope youre ready to join me on this crazy musical adventure through the best Disney trip Ive ever had! Lets not waste anymore time...here we goooooo!!!

I hope that you get to stay at the Beach Club someday! It sounds like it would be perfect for you and your DH! That is so cool that you are going to Disney so soon! I hope you have an amazing time!

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it! I know, the Beach Club is so amazing!

Sorry to hear you didn't have a great morning at Springhill Suites. It's so sad they have to compete with Disney on this TR. They will never ever win

YAY for the Beach Club! I feel as if my little sniffer hasn't done enough work smelling the smells of Disney. Maybe I will have to see about staying at the Beach Club on my next trip just for this godly smell.

That's awesome you got one of those RFID scanners. I forget if I used those in NYC or Quebec, but they really are so cool. And your room is gorgeous! I love the little seashell pillows, reminds me of the cottages down in Cape Cod. (:

Can't wait to read more!
Yay! I'm so glad you're liking the music!

Haha that's okay! Springhill Suites could have served me a lobster and filet mignon and I'd still compare it to Disney! It's just not fair!

YES! You have to smell the Beach Club, Timmy. I'm not even kidding, it will change your life.

The RFID scanners are really cool, and much more convenient! We were so happy with our room!

I highly recommend a special trip just for the smell! Well, you could go for the smell and to eat at Beaches n Cream! That would totally be worth the trip!

"Good Vibrations"- The Beach Boys

July 8, 2012

I’m pickin’ up good vibrations...

Ready for more Beach Club room pictures? I hope so! I thought a Beach Boys song would be an appropriate accompaniment, since they are the masters of all things beachy.

Here’s our balcony! I was so excited that we got a full balcony! It was wonderful sitting out there everyday!

And here’s our view from the balcony!

I realized later that even though all you could see was trees beyond our balcony, we were actually like right across from Epcot, because we could hear the music playing in the WS and we were able to see the fireworks at night! It was awesome!

Back inside, I had more pictures to take!

Look at that lamp! AHH. I wanted it so badly.

Here’s our bathroom, complete with beautiful wallpaper!

And our bathtub!

Seriously, we were like kids in a candy shop. We were racing around the room freaking out about everything.

“Honey, look at THIS!”
“I know, look over here at THIS!”

That was pretty much us for about ten minutes. We paused long enough for a balcony picture!

As I was racing through the room again I finally noticed our Mickey towel!

YAY! Hotel room sensory overload!!

Finally we calmed down enough to realize that in our haste we had not, in fact, gotten everything out of the car. I had left my toiletry bag in the backseat, which is the most important thing that I did NOT want to leave in the sun for an extended period of time, so we headed back to the car.

Here’s the BC lobby from the top of the stairs:

I found this old car outside and got really excited.

Look how beautiful!

It’s so perfect!

I’m READY. Let the memories begin!

We made it back to the room again, and went spent some time unpacking. Well, I unpacked while John sat on the balcony. I love unpacking as soon as I get to Disney, partially because I’m OCD but also because it makes me feel like I actually live there!

It didn’t take me long, and I was really proud of us because after everything we had already accomplished that morning, it was only 9:09!

Can you believe that? I feel like the Disney gods had pressed the pause button for our first morning in Disney, because time was going SO slowly, which never happens on a Disney Vacation!

It was time to get out and explore!

Up Next: More Beach Club exploring, and our first park of the trip! Stay tuned!

Oh man, I love having a song to play while I'm reading your tr!! Especially when they match so perfectly as the Beach Boys and your Beach Club hotel room! The Beach Boys just put me in a good mood when I hear them. As does anything Disney, but I bet you could probably guess that since I'm a Dis-er too!!

AHHHH that room. So beautiful, so classy, so top notch!! I'm in love with it. What a perfect view from the balcony too! Glad you are all settled in to your new "home"!! And before 9:30?! Now you have a whole magical day ahead of you without having to worry about unpacking! Can't wait to hear what you do!!

Your room is really lovely! And that balcony! How cool that y'all could see the EPCOT fireworks & hear the music.

I'm the same way - I like to unpack as soon as we get to the room. I feel like I'm not allowed to start having fun until that's done.

"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay"- Otis Redding

"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay"- Otis Redding

July 8, 2012

Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time

After being at Disney the night before and that morning without going to a park, I think it’s safe to assume that I was getting really anxious. I NEEDED to be in a park. It had to happen, like, immediately. So, which park do you go to when you are staying at the Beach Club and you want to get there fast?

Haha, just kidding! We were going to Epcot, of course! But first, we had to do some resort exploring! On our way out of the room, I took a picture of our fancy schmancy RFID door thingy.

Let’s hear it, left side of the audience. “Oooooh...” And now right side? “Ahhhh...” I know, it’s super exciting. Still, I felt pretty privileged to have a chance to try the new technology. Keep moving forward!

On our walk to the lobby I quickly came to the conclusion that the Beach Club has the most beautiful decor I’ve ever seen. Specifically, the accent chairs and light fixtures.

LOOK! A place to play checkers!

I love that Disney adds these extra little touches, even though I seriously cannot think of a single time that I’ve been at Disney World and thought, “Hmmm, there is literally nothing to do here. I sure wish I could play some checkers.” I guess they’re planning for everything!

We decided to stop in the gift shop and food court area just to get acquainted with where everything was located.

We passed through pretty quickly, figured out where everything was, and headed back the other way. That’s when I saw my first light fixture that I obsessed over.

Look at this one!

I could've wandered around the lobby all day, but we were both anxious to get to Epcot so we headed outside!

I see Stormalong Bay!

I was SO excited to swim in that pool!

John saw Hurricane Hanna’s and made a mental note to get himself a nice adult beverage there later in the week. If you didn’t know, Hurricane Hanna’s is the poolside bar and grill at Stormalong Bay. They serve sodas, beer, mixed drinks, and some light fare.

There’s the beautiful, gorgeous sand bottom pool! I had to resist the urge to run back to the room and put on my bathing suit!

There’s the lighthouse! That’s the dock you go to if you want to take a friendship boat to DHS or Epcot! Although I don’t see why anyone staying at Beach Club, Yacht Club, or the Boardwalk wouldn’t just walk to Epcot, but that’s just me!

I love those beautiful sandy beaches! John was slightly offended that he wasn’t allowed to swim in that water. You would think the nice layer of green scum coating the entire service would dissuade him, but no.

Seriously, the Beach Club is the perfect resort in my opinion. It just has this amazing relaxed feel to it, and it is so perfectly themed. I really felt like I was on a relaxing beach vacation every time I was there. Coming back to the Beach Club after a long park day was indescribable. It was the absolute perfect way to unwind. That’s why I chose the Otis Redding song for this part of the update. It kind of makes me think of that relaxing BC atmosphere!

Anyway, back to exploring. I was so excited!

After dragging John all over the place to see every last nook and cranny of the Beach Club, I was finally ready to walk to Epcot!

If you’ve never stayed at an Epcot resort, it literally takes like three minutes to walk to Epcot via the international gateway. It was so amazing!

Plus, it’s such a beautiful path!

Within just a few minutes, we were going through the bag check at Epcot and it was time for me to use this bad boy for the first time EVER!

Up Next: John meets a sourpuss, and our first adventures in Epcot! Stay tuned!

Okay first of all, you are just precious and I am LOVING all of these intense food rating scales. This TR will be epic. I can already tell.

I must say that even though we have SO much in common, I think the biggest one is that neither of us went to Disney during our childhood, and yet we are still MAJORLY obsessed with it! Whoever thinks Disney magic is reserved for children is sadly mistaken and I'm so glad you understand that!

Also, I think that I would be really good friends with your mom. I think we'd have a lot of fun going around meeting characters together.

I can't wait to hear all the songs and read all about this trip report! I know I'm just going to LOVE it.
