This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. I -- I hardly know, sir, just at present -- at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.

Yes, I had a 5K I was training for. So I kept my normal training schedule.

Yes -- walking is certainly good exercise, but it's not the kind of exercise that builds race mileage.

I completely understand what you are saying, I totally get it. The endless walking, in and out, up and down. My problem is I get a lot of other things at WDW as well....Mickey bars, chips, popcorn, "churros of destiny". Things that I would not consume as much of in a normal week of my life. I need some kind of balance and was wondering if any one else feels the need to continue their exercise and what they do.

I did last year and will exercise on our trip this year. I got up early before the family and ran around Stormalong Bay/BW area 3 times that week. On the other days, I still got up and did an mini workout (ABS, pushups, etc) in the room before we left. After vacation, it didn't hurt as bad starting boot camp classes and running again.

I try to run in the mornings - especially if I'm at the Epcot area resorts. Those are simply stunning. Port Orleans is another fun place to run. And if I ever stay at Wilderness Lodge - I drove there last time - I will certainly be running - although I kind of got myself lost a few times at Fort Wilderness, turned a 6 mile run into about a 10 mile run. Should probably have read some signs.

But yes I find the workout helps get me up in the morning, and just sets a tone for the day for me . I certainly dont usually do long runs, just try to pick a fun distance and go till I want to stop (or time constraints make me stop).

Haha, I love that someone quoted "churros of destiny". At least they are better than pity churros.

Anyway, I really only go to Disney on one to two day trips since I'm local, so I count it as a cross training day and adjust my weekly schedule accordingly. I can definitely see the need for getting runs in while on property if you are there more than two days. I had bookmarked this, and thing it may help you out.

I'm going to try to this trip. I always stay at values, so I don't have a gym available, but I plan on running at least every other morning while I'm there on the path around hourglass lake at Pop and Art of Animation.

I think if you are one an exercise routine it is important to stay close to it when on vacation. Yes, you may be walking 10 miles a day in the parks but it is important to keep the routine of going out there, setting aside the time to work out. That way you never fall out of it and don't have a hard time getting back into it when you get home. Even if you do a shorter than normal workout I think it is important.

I haven't in the past, but I am pretty sure I will from now on. I'm to the point where if I miss a couple of runs in a row or days at the gym, I simply don't feel as good. And really, looking back, I regret all the times I've stayed at the Boardwalk and HAVEN'T taken advantage of the opportunity to run around Crescent Lake. I won't make that mistake again!

Of course, for our next non-marathon weekend trip, we'll be staying at AKL for part of it, and I don't think they have any good path to run on...so I may be checking out a Disney resort gym for the first time!

Usually. All but one of my last trips have been short and for at least a half marathon so that was the exercise I did. If I'm there longer or not down there for a race I will get in a morning run on most days (usually the Boardwalk area) and if I'm staying at a resort with a fitness center I'll lift at least once.

I was in the gym every day while on my one Disney Cruise.

I agree with others that say if you are on a routine you shouldn't go off of it completely for any vacation, even Disney. While you do walk a lot in the parks if you are active it isn't really that big of a "workout". You spend most of the time walking at a slow pace, standing in line, and sitting on rides or in restaurants. A lot of people drastically overestimate the number of calories they burn while walking the parks and underestimating the number of calories they consume on vacations.

Yep! I kept to my running plan while there the last two weeks, but changed up the cross-training to make it more WDW-friendly: I used a resistance band in the room for some upper body work, did some yoga while my DS was in the shower, and swam laps while he went down the pool slide over and over and over and over and over.

I want to pick up on the thought of park walking versus a workout. While you are possibly burning additional Kcal while touring MK, you are not offsetting a workout for the most part. I would lighten up your workout if needed, but keep to your schedule as best you can
