Is there a forum yet for January? I did a search and it didn't pull anything up so if not I will start.

I checked a minivan for 9 days and got a price of nearly $700

I know they will be lower but I don't know when, so I need to just keep checking for lower prices.

Using the KLM contract code for National I priced a Corolla, 5 days, for about $188.

Last year I went in January, and the good rates didn't come out until late--I modified my reservation in December and got a compact car for 5 days from Alamo for $69--tax included.

Was checking earlier today and even Costco code didn't cause any price drop. Just need to be patient (not my strong suit!)

A couple of months ago I booked a minivan for 10 days for $472 inclusive. I booked with Budget using BCD x474200 (travelocity code). We need room for 6, so I have to rent a minivan. Last year I booked a full size (there were 4 of us last trip) with Alamo for $200 for 10 days and we ended up finding a minivan on the aisle. I booked at that rate the night before our trip, so I will definitely be watching rates right up until the very end.

Looking here too. January 16th (we get in at 1215am)and leaving the 23rd haven't found anything cheaper than $500 for a minivan YIKES!

We will also be heading to the world in January. We usually rent from Alamo to hoping they have good rates. I have a car rented for the beginning of Dec and not really happy with the rate at the moment.

We are paying $224 for a midsize (Corolla) from National, from 1/4 returning 1/10. Used the KLM contract code and this rate includes all fees, LDW, and supplemental comprehensive insurance.

We're travelling end of January as well for 10 days - hoping to get the rental for about $150 or less.

I think that even the week charge is too high - is it safe to wait until January to make a car reservation?

I would still make a reservation... I always have a reservation. The great thing about car rentals is you can make one, then cancel it if a lower price becomes available. I started at $313 and I am down to $205, I am betting it will hit $150 by the time our trip rolls around (same dates as yours). Now thats for a compact, but I think the same rules apply for a larger vehicle too.

Have you used the Visa $30 off coupon code? AD2338FDF?

Generally prices drop at 21 days, and continue to drop until 1-2 days before the trip. I have been watching the December thread and that seems to be the common consensus this year too.

I tried to check in online and it would not let me. (something about the coupon) So I called and they said that I would have to check in at the counter and show the coupon ($30.00 off that is listed on this thread) I do not have an actual coupon, I was just going to pay with my visa. Is anyone else having this problem???

There is no coupon:

They (Cust service reps for these rental car companies) have no idea what they are talking about-usually.. I have had to call Alamo in the past and I have known more about their offers than the people I talked to.

I guess you can print that off the website. that should be sufficient.
