25 Friends Finally Together Part One

Welcome to my very first Disneyland trip report. We were there from Wednesday, June 20, 2012 through Sunday, June 24, 2012. My husband and I have been there more times than we can count. This was my older sonís sixth trip there. It would be the very first trip there for my younger son. Some may call us Disney fanatics. I cannot get enough Disney, and my kids are already heading down the same path.

My name is Kimberly. I am 32.

I have two sons. Xander is five.

Connor turned one on this trip. We wanted to be there on his actual birthday, so were pleased when the Cars Land opening date was announced. Our trip was originally going to be a little longer, but my husband started a new job in February. He could not get more time off.

This is my husband, who insists I call him Crap Bag anytime I refer to him on the DIS. I know it is silly, but he thinks it is funny. If I slip and ever mention his real name, please point it out.

We hail from Las Vegas, Nevada. It is a beautiful city that I love very much. Everyone knows it is a city meant for adults. We usually have to travel to entertain the kids for more than a mere afternoon. It was very hot when we left, so we were looking forward to the cooler weather Anaheim was about to offer us.

I had been pre-planning this trip, since before Connor was even born. Other than inviting others to come along with us, it was just over a month out before I started putting my plans into motion. After looking into many hotel possibilities, I finally booked our hotel on May 18th. We had never stayed on property at Disneyland before. Many of the good neighbor hotels are very nice, and we usually stay at the Sheraton. On our last trip, Crap and I agreed that we would stay on property this time. The only problem was with only three hotels, the rates were higher than I wanted to pay. Crap wanted to stay at The Grand Californian. I wanted to stay at the Paradise Pier. We compromised and chose The Disneyland Hotel.

It was right around the one month point when I booked our dining reservations as well. Until that point, I was unaware of how many people would come. For Connorís birthday, we were treating anyone who came to a World of Color Lunch at Wine Country Trattoria. The guest list about a month out was at 38 people. Iíve never had a problem getting a Disneyland reservation even at just a few days out, so I was not surprised when I got all of the ones I wanted at the one month point. The hardest one to get was the birthday lunch, because the dining line cannot book parties over (14 is the magic number if I remember correctly).

The lady I spoke with said the maximum people I could put on a reservation was 35. She had to email the restaurant and get permission to book it. About three days later, she returned my call and said they could seat my party of 35 at 1pm on Connorís birthday. I was still three people short. My little brother told me that although he had not RSVPd, my older brother was planning on coming with his four kids. Disney dining was able to give me a second reservation for 8 people (which I placed under Crapís name just in case) with a 12:20 start time. I was hoping all 43 of us could sit near each other once we checked in.

Since this was Connorís birthday and Xander received a lovely basket for his 5th birthday at WDW, I wanted to order Connor a basket. Aaron, the cast member who assisted me, told me that there were not many items available for kids under 3. Many of the items from Xanderís basket were not available at Disneyland. He said we could custom order items and a basket. After we started ordering things, he stopped to tell me that I would spend about the same price to order an in room celebration. I decided to take him up on the offer and was interested to see how that would turn out. The lovely cast member also helped me order Connorís birthday cake.

All of the plans were set in stone or so I thought. About a week before we were about to leave, people kept canceling. Both my family and my husbandís family are terrible with RSVPing. My Dad informed me that my older brother and his kids were not going. That brought me back to the original 38. I received a text from my husbandís step-sister to say that she, her boyfriend and their beautiful newborn (who was not even a month old yet) were no longer coming. Since we were at 35 again, I called and canceled the extra 8 person reservation.

Days before we left, my sister informed me that one of her sons was staying in town to attend a quinceanera for his best friend. Her ex-husband was also not going to make it either, because he was needed at work. Crapís step-mother also started a brand new job days before the trip, so she could not make it either. Her youngest son decided not to go, since his girlfriend had to cancel at the last minute too. Then, her oldest son, his wife and three kids canceled too. Our guest list was now down to 25. The remaining 25 did make it, so we still had a large group.

Anyone who has ever travelled with a group that large knows you cannot get much done unless you separate. Even though we were apart most of the time, all 25 of us were together for the birthday lunch. Therefore, they all get credits in the trip report. Youíve seen the four in my immediate family. Here are the other 21.

My Dad, Ray

My Mother-in-law, Myra, and Step-Father-in-law, Manny

My Father-in-law, Ben. He drove down from Vegas at 2 in the morning and left to go back to Vegas just after 4pm. Since his wife (well kind of since he has not officially married her yet) and all of her kids did not make it, he hung with us all until he left the park. I really love my father-in-law, so he was very good company.

My oldest sister, Gennette, and her husband, Cesar

My little sister, Kati

My little brother, Billy, and his fiancť, Rana

My niece, Kaylie (8)

My niece, Keira (6)

My nephew, Julio Jr. (16)

My nephew, Brandon (14)

My husbandís little sister, Rachel, and her wife, Sarkara

My husbandís little sister, Sarah, and her husband, Matt

My husbandís little sister, Becky. She actually turned 22 the day after my babyís birthday.

Beckyís Best Friend and family friend, Shannon

My nephew, Noah (6)

My niece, Kaylei (2)

I took pictures of food when I remembered. We also got pictures of coordinating receipts when we remembered for those who are trying to plan out meals. For those who have read my past trip reports, I am happy to report we got a lot more photos this time than any other time.

Love the intros! Great pictures of you and your family!

I was watching friends the other night (on Nick at Night! Am I that old?) and the CrapBag/Regina episode was one. I of course thought of your husband.

This trip was way more challenging than the previous two, but we had a great time.

Thank you. I found a new stylist who I already love. Of course that picture was right after she styled it. Too bad I cannot make my hair look that nice.

Planning was a little stressful since people kept canceling and rescheduling. In the beginning, I also tried to help everyone arrange tickets too. After going way over on my cell phone minutes, I stepped back after a while and let everyone plan everything themselves other than meeting us for lunch at 1pm and viewing World of Color at 9pm. It all turned out well.

Thank you. I did not get approval from everyone to post photos, so I may or may not have to pull some down. Since a lot of these people posted pictures of me and the boys on Facebook long before I had an account, I figured it would be okay. Crap just informed me I should have asked first anyway. The thought never crossed my mind, since I used pictures they publicly post of themselves anyway. They never asked for my permission to post pictures of me, so am I wrong in posting theirs? Hopefully, no one gets upset about it.

Xander was just watching Nick-at-Nite on Saturday at my FIL's house, so I do not think you are old. Every time I see Mike on Friends now, I think of Crap. He is so silly for picking that name.

I'm so sorry again about your phone. That's a rough drive without anything to distract you!

Bryan refuses to let me drive anywhere (control freak), but he knows I'm in charge of the music. If it were up to him we'd be listening to hair bands from the '80s all the time.

Looks like a cool place to stop! Loved the pictures!

That's one great thing about social networking-you can get in touch with people in a pinch!

Can't wait to hear what the hotel was like, and how the first night went!

When we travel, we usually get books on CD from the Library. This would not work will with kids, unless you get something that the whole family would be interested in.

The books on CD make the journey go by quite quickly. We didi Harry Potter and many other books this way, so that might help if Crap insists on whatever coffee shop is. Maybe a book that transends adults and children.

As hard as it was to be without the phone on the drive, it was even harder being without it on the actual trip. I know that sounds a little whiny, but I never realized how much I used my phone until I was without one. Since I had never lost or broken a phone, it was the first time in 12.5 years without a cell phone for more than a few hours.

Crap says I am a terrible driver, so he does not let me drive. I am not the best driver in the world, but I am not terrible either. He likes to exaggerate. At least you are unlikely to fall asleep listening to music from the hair bands. It is nice that Bryan lets you control the music though.

Alien Fresh is an awesome place to stop. I would say that the jerky is out of this world, but that may already be a slogan of theirs.

Despite the Facebook post and the call to my sister, people still tried to call. My Dad left me multiple voicemails that I did not hear until days after we got home. Crap sent me a test text message, but it never came through. It makes me wonder if anyone else sent some that I never received. I should probably look at my phone bill.

Crap was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. It was on par with what I expected.

Books on CD is a great idea.

Xander is not into Harry Potter yet, but I would love that one for me and Crap. I usually pack CDs that we agree upon for the trip, but I was planning on playing with my phone this time. I think Disney books would be a hit with everyone. Thanks for the tip.

Kimberly and Xander are kryptonite to electronic devices... mostly thanks to an innate clumsiness that has led to countless Pepsi-drenched pants, a tablet being dropped down a set of stairs (resulting in the Home button on an iPad going wonky, only working once every seven or so presses), a phone falling off of a Post Office counter, and a myriad of other incidents that had generous doses of hilarity and pinches of "aw, man, did that really have to happen" mixed in.

But I love my family and all of their clumsy quirks! In fact, I can't wait for Kimberly to share what happened inside of Flo's V8 Cafe. Here's a hint... there was a little bit of shakin' and a whole lotta chocolate milk showerin' going on!

I wasn't completely stingy. I did let Kimberly use my company BlackBerry during this trip. My thought? Maybe she'll break it... thereby allowing me to possibly replace it with a newer, better model!

I am clumsy, and I do not deny that. Prior to this, nothing had ever happened to any of my cell phones though. Saying Xander and I are kryptonite to electronics whilst leaving your own name off the list is like saying if you fall into a swimming pool, you may get wet. Let's not forget who dropped and broke the first laptop. That was you. Granted, Xander dropped and broke the second one. I believe you also broke an MP3 player and tried to blame me. Connor broke Xander's PS3 controller, so he certainly belongs in this electronic breaking family as well. I also dropped and broke our first DSLR as long as we are pointing fingers. That was fun.

You're giving away a lot of spoilers. Yes, the chocolate milk episode was quite funny. I still laugh when I think about it, but nothing will ever beat the initial laughter after it happened.

When you remembered to loan me the Blackberry, it came in handy. Thanks. It also reminded me of how much I do not miss my old Blackberry. If I knew you wanted me to break it for you, I would have tried harder. The funny thing is it probably would have been replaced with the same phone, lol. No one at your new job has a work iPhone, right? Although, I would not be surprised if you were a trailblazer for the whole work iPhone there as well. All joking aside, thanks for trusting me with your work phone but not your personal phone. I am sure a co-worker of yours might love reading that!

I'm so glad I found your trip report. I'm currently expecting my first baby (due Jan 4th) and I'm already planning baby's first Disneyland trip (Dec 2013). Can't wait to read more about how yours went with a 1 year old.

I am glad you found it too. Taking young ones to Disney is a very magical time for a family and will leave wonderful, long lasting memories for you and your DH. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Hopefully, your trip will be wonderful. The majority of ours was, and I would not trade these early Disney vacations with the kids for anything.
