Lime Green.. is this the thing of the past?

Is wearing the lime green is the thing of the past? For those who has been here for some years now.. Do you remember about wearing or having some kind of lime green on you to show that you are from the DISboard so you can easily spot them to meet them at the parks or even at the resorts? I think there are few people who are going to be around the time we're going to be there.. and it would be nice if they come up to me or I come up to them and just introduce each other. How do you spot your fellow DIS, especially knowing that they will be there around the same time you are? Or people nowadays don't care about meeting other DIS members?

From what I understand, if you walk up to someone just because they are wearing lime green and ask if they are on the Dis, they may think you are nuts.

The way to recognize people WAS the Lime Green Mickey Head (LGMH). This was an "alien green" paint chip available at Home Depot. This line of paint had paint chips in the shape of Mickey's head. People would tie them to their bags, strollers, etc.

Last I heard on the TPAS board, Home Depot had stopped stocking these paint chips. People were discussing how to make their own on the computer.

I still have 4 unused lime green Mickey heads from Home Depot's paint department. I guess I better take real good care of them! I also have them on my WDW luggage tags from 2009 and one on our backpack we carry into the parks. We've met a few other disboarder's this way.

Home Depot must have finally gotten tired of people like me who picked up 8 at a time.

I seldom stop when I see the LGMH anymore. While I got many nice responses from people, I also got more than a few not so nice responses. The way I figure it is if you tie a LGMH onto your backpack, you should probably expect strangers to come up to you and chat!!! So, why be nasty when someone does just that??? Yep, had that experience more than once. So now? I just keep to myself.

Over in the Fort we have lime green mickey lanterns or lightposts that we put up outside our RV's to denote Disboarders. Some people also put up a little lime green mickey sign with their board name by their camper / campsite. Ive met some very nice people walking up the campsite and asking who they are on the boards.

I had a somewhat similar experience. I went solo in 2009 for the Tower of Terror 13K. Some nice people on the Events/Competition subforum of the WISH forum told me to say Hi and run with them if I wanted. They said just talk with anyone in the WISH shirts. Well, the WISHers were in a circle and grouped, and I tried talking to several. The ones I talked to before the race and the one during the race were rather rude. One was rather nasty, as in how dare you talk to me, complete stranger! So I never tried to talk to WISHers again. Just run solo.

Oh.. that's terrible. I guess they only recognize their own "cliques".
I'll make sure to avoid them. Oh.. I think I will put on my lime green mickey head-- "I'm friendly!" This way they know that I am not a b!%$h to talk to.

We had our LGMH on our back pack last year and nobody said hi nor did we notice any others around. It was during FD so I'm sure there were lots of DISers there! LOL

I agree with some of the pp, if you don't want anyone to speak to you, then don't advertise you are on here. To me, that is the reason to put your LGMH in sight, to be noticed. I would be glad to chat to anyone who introduced themselves and I would also presume that one wanted me to say hi if I saw theirs.

Oh well, people are weird.

I'm sorry that your experience wasn't positive.. You can be assured that if you ever see my lime tag, and you come up to me, I will welcome you and have a friendly chat with you!

same here... i finally spotted a lime green mickey head on one of my trips - i approached in a very friendly manner and she snootily acknowledged she was a DISer and then i got snubbed! i was so embarrassed and i don't think i can bring myself to approach another LGMH wearer again

on the other hand, i always forget to bring/wear one. i am noting on my list of "things to do" to make sure i remember this time... so, if anyone wants to approach me i will welcome it

In April we took the Hawaiian cruise and spent a few days at DL before. Both my husband and myself had the line green Mickey heads from Home Depot on the front of our shirts and no one came us to us and I know that there had to be a lot of Disboarders there because there were over 200 on the cruise that I know of.

I'll definitely look for you. We are arriving October 19th and now I will make sure I decorate our window! I promise to be friendly if I do see you. I don't know why people would bother wearing them if they didn't want to be chatted up!
