Fantasy Surf & Turf: Days 14 & 15 - DTD & Home

The time had come again - time to go home. As usual I was awake at 7:30 so I spent some time on my iPad and finally got up at 9:00

Normally we would do DTD check in and then go off to play mini golf, but this time we had a flight to Chicago with American Airlines so we couldn't do DTD and, as the flight was at 2:20 there wasn't really time for the mini golf.

We did our last bits of packing and left the room for the last time at 9:45. First stop was the petrol station opposite the boardwalk to get some petrol and then round to Downtown Disney where we sat enjoying the view for a while.

We grabbed some lunch in Earl of Sandwich - a Full Montagu each - and then started making our way to the airport, leaving Disney property for the last time for a couple of years at 11:45.

We were soon at the airport where we printed out our boarding passes and dropped our luggage off, then I made a quick stop in the Universal shop to buy some chocolate frogs for somebody on the DIBB.

We were through security pretty quickly and made our way down to gate 16 for our American Airlines flight to Chicago. Boarding started promptly at 1:55 and by 2:25 we were all on board and pushing back from the gate.

Shortly after takeoff there was a drinks service where Dad and I had a coke each then I spent the rest of the flight reading on my iPad.

We were back on the ground at about 4:10 and at the gate shortly after. We had arrived at terminal 3 and we had to make our way over to terminal 5 for our BA flight to Heathrow. We went over on the monorail and once we got there we went to the BA desk and picked up our boarding passes and then went through security and down to the gate to wait for our flight.

We were finally called for boarding at 8:20 and pushed back about 10 minutes later. Soon after takeoff there was a drinks service and then dinner, which was a choice of beef or pasta - we both had the beef.

I watched a film called Moneyball and an episode of Suburgatory then tried to snooze for a while. After dozing for a bit I watched an episode of 2 Broke Girls and Big Bang Theory then at 8:30 it was time for breakfast which was a muffin and apple juice.

We landed at Heathrow just before 10:00 but unfortunately we stopped at one of the satellite gates at terminal 5 so we had to get the transit across to the main terminal. There was a huge queue at passport control but once we got towards the front of it we were able to branch off to the E Passport gates, which we got through fairly quickly.

Our cases came up within a few minutes and we passed through customs and met up with our taxi driver who was waiting outside for us. We were on the road at 10:50 and as usual we caught every red light between West and South London, but we were indoors by 12:05, the house was still standing and everything looked OK, which is always a relief.

And so ends another great holiday. It didn't go exactly to plan, especially losing a morning having to go and get my licence back, but as usual we rolled with the changes and enjoyed it regardless - the only thing I would have liked to do that we didn't do was have one last ride on Snow White's Scary Adventures before it closes for good, but never mind.

Our next holiday is a short break to Jersey in June to use up some BA air miles that were expiring and the next Disney holiday is the transAtlantic next year - I probably won't bother doing a pre-trip report for that one but definitely look out for a trip report next year.

Once again thanks to everybody that has read my ramblings and a special thanks to those who have left comments - I do these reports as much for myself as for any other reason but it's nice to know other people enjoy reading them as much as I do. Until next time - take care everyone and safe travels.

Loved reading your report David and I am a little sorry that it has come to an end. I will say yet again how excited I am to be sailing on the Fantasy.

Only just over a year until your next cruise. I will look forward to that trip report also - unless, of course, Dad doesn't fancy that one either and you need a companion

Thanks for reading. I'm always amazed that people take the time to sit and read my reports from beginning to end in one sitting.

Thanks Joh. I was thinking that as you have done the trip index for me and as Dad might get bored with 6 sea days back to back.........
