Question Official Miami Port Information Thread-5/1 update

Miami is a fantastic city I had the pleasure of growing up in. I hope you get to enjoy it as much as I did.

First though, if all the locals can help on this thread the same way the Seattle crew did it will make it that much better of a thread. All the locals that sned me things to post get the joy of seeing their name in this thread as well.

PM me any info to add to a topic- I will cut and paste it to the right section. In your PM let me know the number of where it should go, that helps tremendously.

Those that have sent things to adsd to this thread include:
breakingd_awn

Some starting places to get ideas about what to do in Miami while you are cruising
www.cruisemiami.org

Please completely explore the websites given before you ask questions. You would be surprised how many people don't look at links and ask questions that are easily found on the links.

All help from locals is requested and appreciated.

Transportation

Port of Miami oficial site http://www.miamidade.gov/portofmiami/ see travel tips for other pages on activities to do while in Miami

Car rentals

Metrorail (miami's version of the monorail with multiple stops) or buses
http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/rail.asp

Parking $20 per day

Taxi Service frrom MIA to PortMiami is a flat rate of $24

From FLL to MIA

From FLL to port

Tolls--http://www.floridasturnpike.com/all-electronictolling/ESP/FAQs.cfm?SunPass
and here is a amp to show you http://www.floridasturnpike.com/all-...TollingMap.pdf

If you are driving south to the port you probably want to get off of the Florida Turnpike at exit 47 and switch over to I-95.

Thank you so much for this; we got a room for the four of us there with a AAA rate for just over $100 a night. I love that we get breakfast and free shuttles from the airport and to the port, plus a pool for the buffer day we planned in case our flights go awry.

Are you sure this includes transfers back to the hotel after the cruise? I just see transfers from the airport to hotel and to the pier, not back.

I have no idea because it wasn't relevant to my planning. We are on the WBPC and therefore will be disembarking in Los Angeles. :D

ETA: Next to the Port of Miami entry under local business, the hotel website says "Courtesy Transportation available from 12:00am to 12:00am." It says the same thing under the airport entry, so I'm assuming for those who need it it's both ways. http://www.comfortsuites.com/hotel-m...ountry=&scity=

So glad someone set this up -- on the New Year's Eve cruise out of MIAMI!!! I spoke to DCL ... they really are without information --- I asked about suggestions for pre-cruise hotels --- they took my name and put me on a waitlist but I don't know what hotel the waitlist is for and they told me they would not contact me...that I would have to call back and check if they recommend discounted rooms.... canned that and booked the Marriott - we arrive on the 27th so we are super excited but there is an information shutdown on the part of DCL..... little disappointing but I expect a lot more from them and so far I have never been let down.

Waiting for hotel info

So excited to see this thread started. We'll probably end up flying in the day before our March 30, 2013 cruise so I'm really looking forward to info on cheaper hotels near the port. Also I'm guessing it will be cheaper for us to fly into FLL since Southwest doesn't fly into MIA. Trying to determine the cheapest options for us.

Can we maybe sticky this thread so more local people see it and can hopefully join in?

You might want to start looking at hotels now. We are sailing in February and I booked a room 6 weeks ago and the prices have already gone up $60 a night!!

Hotel Night Before Miami Cruise?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a hotel to stay in for the night before a Miami cruise?

I see the airport has a hotel on site, so that is tempting, but I would love to hear what others think or have actually done?

Thanks!
Lee
