I'd rather have a Titanic ride at the Magic Kingdom.

OMG that made me laugh Mike

I had to come over to the boards too to see what everyone thought after seeing this pop up on fb...I really was not a big fan of Avatar. great effects but really booooring and corny IMO. I think it wuold def play well to becoming theme park attractions but I dont think I am a big fan of the idea of it being part of AK. I get how they could fit it in but Id rather not go to tomorrowland in the AK.
Some ppl were saying about star wars not being Disney and I agree its fine for them to acquire the big properties and good for business but I think the movie themed things seem to belong at the Studios.
Im back and forth on this only because I know it will be spectacular and I love AK already but I just really dont like Avatar. It will be exciting to get the details as they come. I just hope they arent counting on Avatar to be some timeless classic. i know i have no interest in going to see sequels to that movie.
I prefer Disney to be more Disney....you know do something more with Tarzan the lion king, the jungle book, the jungle cruise even...IDK it makes me nervous, sounds like a hasty plan to try and outdo Harry potter.
(This avatar stuff was supp to be at Universal before right?)
Love hearing what everyone else thinks...very exciting

While I'm happy Disney has finally announced something completely new for the AK, Avatar I thought was really overhyped and didn't really do it for me. I wish they went with a more traditional beastly kingdom.

Just saw the announcement and came over here to see what everyone was saying. I haven't seen Avatar--but this feels like a really bad attempt to do something like Harry Potter in WDW. I also wondered if this wasn't somehow related to the 'beastly kingdom' (is that right?) rumors that have been swirling for years. My initial impression says this will be a dud, but then Disney is pretty good at magic, so maybe they'll be able to make it work.

hahahaha. That's exactly how I felt about Titanic... and Dirty Dancing when I was younger. After the hype the movies were just nothing. Hype can be such a movie killer. My favorite way to see a movie is with no fore-knowledge and no expectations whatsoever. That's how I saw La Bamba and I just loved it.

I enjoyed Avatar in spite of myself. I couldn't suspend disbelief completely enough to not notice the Disney's Pocahantas rip-off thing with the storyline and Pocahantas is the only Disney movie I've ever hated. Nor could I get into it enough to not care at all about the propaganda/message angle and yet I still enjoyed the movie overall. The special effects were so fascinating. And lets face it, almost anything the writers of a movie care about and believe in can provide a vehicle for their imaginations and be the springboard for them to really make something special.

I truly hope that the imagineeers manage to pull off something amazing in scope and in technological impressiveness with this new land.

I think it is stupid. Never watched the movie, have no desire to watch the movie and have never met anyone that is such a big fan of the movie that this would be exciting.

Seriously? I thought the OP was kidding.

Avatar at Animal Kingdom???? Who thinks of this stuff? Avatar is no where near the property of Harry Potter and even if it was, it doesn't belong in AK. It's ridiculous.

I think it will fit well in Animal Kingdom, but I have no idea what they will do with it. I can imagine them making a very magical looking Pandora recreation, but as for rides / shows I'm stumped .

I have seen the movie, and I loved the graphics, etc, but I agree with others that there are not enough hardcore "fans" like there are for Harry Potter to make this work in my opinion.

I am just excited for anything NEW at WDW. I would love it if there were some new rides. There haven't been any in some time. I know about the Fantasy Land refurb, but this sounds a bit more adult.

Why all the haters?

Because most would rather gripe about what Disney does rather than enjoy the parks. There are a lot of people that would love this idea. They may not be on these forums but there are far more than enough people that love Disney and Avatar to warrant this type of move. It just doesn't seem like it because 99% of forum posters are Disney purists and believe they have the ideas that will save Disney from going under. I've just come to expect it these days when Disney announces anything new they get torn to pieces by people that always know better about how to run the parks. This news broke just a short bit ago and already there are tons of comments about how horrible the idea is and how awful the idea is. But these same people wanted a mythical section to AK and Avatar fits. As well as it fits with the environmental theme of AK.

I totally AGREE! When we were there last month... there was little changes but NOTHING major... smaller theme parks such as Hersheypark has updated just about every year with Boardwalk and Fahrenheit coaster with a much smaller budget... I was updates to WDW before I return again...

AVATAR sounds likes a GREAT addition to a boring Animal Kingdom!!!

I wonder if this is WDW's attempt to have fox refurbish another one of their buildings like they did in DHS with the American Idol Experience. With the AI contract near it's end, is this the next Fox franchise that will keep the seat in WDW?
