Please join me in celebrating my 50th Birthday...Deluxe Style! FINALLY COMPLETE

Good Morning Everyone! I am definitely doing the Happy Dance today. Not because I turned 50 yesterday , but because in just two weeks I will get to celebrate at one of my favorite places in the world. DD21 has her last final exam on May 11 and then the very next morning she and I are off to my HAPPY PLACE. We are doing a split stay at my two favorite Disney resorts, with our first four nights (5 days) at the Boardwalk Inn (on the Deluxe Dining Plan) and then three nights (2 days) at the Polynesian on our own (will probably renew my TIW membership though). But more important than where we are staying is where we will be dining, so without further ado...

Here are our dining plans:

May 12

Dinner at Flying Fish Cafe - COMPLETE

May 13

Boardwalk Bakery Goodies - COMPLETE (featuring the Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cupcake)

Lunch at Coral Reef - COMPLETE

Drinking (& Eating) Around Epcot's World Showcase - Part I - COMPLETE (featuring the Wine Passport)

Dinner at Narcoossee's - COMPLETE

May 14

Breakfast at Sleepy Hollow - COMPLETE (featuring the Funnel Cake)

Lunch - Sanaa - COMPLETE

Drinking (& Eating) Around Epcot's World Showcase - Part II - COMPLETE (featuring the Rose & Crown Pub Beer Flight)

Dinner at La Hacienda - COMPLETE

May 15

Lunch at Hollywood Brown Derby (OOP) - COMPLETE

Afternoon Snack at the Writer's Shop - COMPLETE (featuring the Carrot Cake Cookie)

Happy Hour at the Tune In Lounge - COMPLETE

Dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse - COMPLETE

May 16

Breakfast at Kringla Og Bakery - COMPLETE

Lunch at Teppan Edo - COMPLETE

Drinking (& Eating) Around the World - Part III - COMPLETE

Dinner at California Grill - COMPLETE

DDP vs. TIW Comparison - COMPLETE

Last two days not on Dining Plan:

May 17

Breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe - COMPLETE

Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Lounge - COMPLETE

Dinner at Jiko - COMPLETE

May 18

Breakfast at Kona Cafe - COMPLETE

La Cava de Tequila - COMPLETE

Lunch at Le Cellier - COMPLETE

Drinking (& Eating) Around the World - Part IV - COMPLETE

Drinking (& Eating) Around the World - The Final Chapter (Game Review and Results) - COMPLETE

Dinner at Citricos - COMPLETE

Favorites and Final Thoughts - Page 15

Ok, that's the lineup, for now anyway . I can't promise you I won't make any changes in the next two weeks (as I have made about a billion so far and I only started planning this trip about two months ago ), but I will promise to take lots of pictures and report back here on whatever food/drinks we do end up having. So please check back here next month and join me in celebrating my 50th Birthday...Deluxe Style!

Thanks for joining in YCFAN! You've given me a great idea...my DD graduates from college next year. Sounds like a good excuse to return to WDW. It's such a great place to celebrate! Hope you and your son have a great trip and thanks for the idea.

Thank you annichan! By the way, I'm really enjoying your dining report (in progress) and can't wait for more. Your reviews from your 2009 trip were very helpful when I was planning our 25th anniversary trip last fall. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Thank you for the compliment!

And by the way, with your 50th-birthday-trip you have brought me up to something: I still have a bit to go until 50, but my 40th is in December of 2013 ...
which is exactly the first year we do NOT already have another DCL or DLP trip planned for!
And the time of year coincides wondrously with my desire to see Christmas decorations at WDW!

I guess I will have to talk to DH about adding another ticker to my signature

I have been following along and enjoying your reviews, just not posting. The GF Cafe looks so beautiful! It is definitely on my list of places to try, for every meal, someday!

Your system of using a short version and a long version has inspired me to write my DR that way. I think I will do the short version LIVE and then edit to add the long version with pics when I return.

I'm curious how you enjoyed the Poly vs. BW?

Thanks for taking the time to write this excellent report! And Happy Belated Birthday!!

I'm joining in late, but I'm loving your food review! My honeymoon to WDW is in less than a month and there are a few places you went to that we are doing as well

So glad you shared the wine passport! I hadn't heard of it before and now I am so excited to try it on our upcoming trip!

Also, I can completely sympathize with your daughter about the wine glass. I'm 23 but look very young for my age (I have occasionally been asked if I'm under 18!), so I really hate it when people just assume my age. For a waiter I feel like it's common courtesy not to make any assumptions like that, but I would guess he wasn't even thinking when he did it!

Ooh that French Toast looks good

I have read many good reviews of the Grand Floridian Cafe, I must try it sometime, especially as I love a good breakfast

That sounds like a great idea! I really enjoy reading live reports and look forward to reading yours.

As for the Poly vs. BWI, that's a difficult question. The Poly has long been our family favorite (we have stayed there more than any other resort) because of the theming and being on the monorail. However our favorite park is Epcot so we love the convenience of staying at one of the Epcot resorts and being able to walk in the back door of Epcot. That is why we almost always do a split stay. We have stayed at all of the Epcot resorts (except for the Swan) and prefer the BWI over the others. I would have to say that after our recent trips, the BWI may even be our overall favorite resort now. The rooms that we have had on our last two stays at the Poly were showing much more wear and tear than the ones at the BWI. Also the Poly still does not have the sink area separate from (outside of) the toilet/shower room, unlike all the other Deluxe Resorts. And now I have heard that they have cut back the hours that the monorail runs, making that advantage a little less attractive. So all these things plus the fact that the Poly is more expensive is definitely tipping the scales in favor of the BWI.

Thanks librarygeek! And best wishes on your upcoming marriage. Hope you have a great honeymoon trip to WDW!

Both the Grand Floridian Cafe and the Kona Cafe are great places to have breakfast before spending a day at Magic Kingdom. I too love a good breakfast, but sadly the rest of my family would rather skip breakfast and have the extra time to sleep.
